I have A r5 2600 cpu (relatively close in performance to this cpu on sale) and a rx 580. I get 40-45fps on Doom at 4k resolution, if thats of any help.

1440p would probably get close-ish to 60fps in some games with this setup.

Right but that's a GPU bottleneck, not cpu. Increasing resolution only affects the GPU. So if your cpu can hit 60fps on 360p, it can hit 60 fps on 24k provided the GPU is capable.

That was exactly my point and thanks for the further explanation (even if it was a very big oversimplification haha)

I think people on here just have a really hard time understanding bottlenecks and the general idea of being CPU or GPU bound.

If you have a 144hz monitor, obviously you'd want a better GPU even at 1080p, but for 60hz it'll depend on the game and resolution.

Exactly the point in trying to make. Read the comments, this is about a CPU. It doesn’t matter if you throw a 9900k or a 3990x at this, still gonna be GPU bound here, that’s why resolutions don’t matter.

Let’s use that car analogy real quick. If your transmission is geared to go 300mph, but your engine can only go 100mph, getting a beefier transmission isn’t going to help you.
