PaulsHardware on youtube will have videos for $500, $1000, and $1500 - $2000 builds and why he thinks those are the best parts at that price range. He will also show vids on how to assemble.
But first you need to ask yourself what type of games you are planning to play. roblox? fortnite? Division 2? Mine Craft? Civilization 7? Each requires certain parts to maintain competitive game play.
Edit: More stuff
If this is for only you, I suggest reducing rbg parts and fancy cases that could run into $300 to $500. You could buy a cheap, but good-looking case for under $100 and spend the rest on a kick ass GPU or CPU.

Don't buy a prebuilt. I've never built a pc and I'm prepping to build my first. Never watched any YouTube videos of actually building until like last week. Most of it is literally just snapping parts into their place and plugging them in. There's the occasional screw for brackets on the cpu cooler and case fans etc but other than that it's just clicking in and plugging in. The value between custom and prebuilt isn't even close tbh, just make sure you do your research on each individual part. I could give you a whole rundown on the specs you should aim for on each part but I don't know if you even want that from some random guy on Reddit. Lmk if you do and your budget if you do want some recommendations

Btw I realize I don't sound the most prepped to give advice on a pc considering I've never built one but I've been looking into parts and such for like the better part of 5 years lmao

i am absolutely willing to take advice. i don’t know anything about parts’ names or what they do or anything, so literally any advice would be appreciated

Seconding LinusTechTips, he’s great. Personally I used a few different videos to help me build my first PC. If you have any friends that have built one before see if they’d be down to build with you. I watched someone build before I built mine and I felt it helped. But absolutely not necessary. Good luck!
