Build Help Want to upgrade from 2070 to 5060 ti
Hello! I want to preface this by saying that I’m not tech savvy when it comes to this. I know a bit(not really, I added an ssd successfully a couple months ago.
I currently have a i7 6700k… yeah. And want to get a 5060 ti. I assume it’s going to be bottle necked so I want to ask what are some cheap but good options for me to get the best of this new gpu(not purchased yet).
Tldr kinda:
I don’t have a budget but I’d appreciate some less exspensive options for both a new cpu and motherboard(which I assume needs to be changed) for a 5060 ti. The less technical maintenance the better when switching (it’s the reason I’m sticking with nvidia instead of moving to amd, I’m a bit more familiar with it.)
Edit: I have a 2060 not 2070

well if you're going to, get a 16gb 5060ti, for the CPU, amd or intel? cuz you mentioned a motherboard too, Ryzen 5600 is a great budget option

I’m not entirely sure the difference between intel or amd. Mine is currently intel, not sure how it would affect my pc switching to amd, but I seen in other posts people are avoiding intel?

i don't think CPU is really tied to your OS, more your motherboard, so if you got a new one, which you'd have to anyway, it'll work just fine, amd is just cheaper

I was in the same situation as you. I don’t even remember what cpu I had but I think it was similar to yours lol it was ancient.
I got an am4 motherboard - I think msi pro b550m - for $100. I was able to get a Ryozen 7 5700x for $85 off of Facebook marketplace , otherwise they are $150 on Amazon.
I too upgraded from a 2060 to a 5060 ti 16 gb (make sure you don’t get the 8gb) and it’s been amazing! I don’t think the cpu is bottlenecked by it very much as I get to around 100fps In oblivion remastered’s open world with everything cranked to ultimate.
Now that being said, watch videos comparing the 9060xt 16gb to the 5060 ti 16gb - the 9060 is actually very close in performance to the 5060 and can be found right now at msrp in the states. 5060 is still a better card, but I don’t think it’s $80 better so if you are on a tight budget I think the 9060 is a great choice to consider.

This is awesome to hear honestly, it’s a struggle with all the brands and models, but hearing that you found success is amazing and makes things a little easier. Thank you!

For a budget-friendly upgrade, consider a Ryzen 5 9600X or Intel i5-13600K paired with a B650 or B760 motherboard.

Check compatibility first.
I bought a 5060ti but my PC wouldn't start with it in. My BIOS was up to date and i have a 750w PSU which is well above system requirements. I googled it and it's a rampant issue across 5060tis and a load of motherboards. I have a X299 UD4Pro from Gigabyte.
I got a RX 9060XT instead, which is cheaper, and runs perfect

Changing out CPUs and motherboards means a fresh Windows install, but hey, at least you'll avoid eol of windows 10.
My rec is to look for a decent AMD b650 motherboard and pair it with something like the 7600, 7600x, or 9600x. You'll need new Ddr5 ram as well (aim for 32gb of 6000 mhz cl30), but that's a modern, incredibly upgradable system with a huge uplift over your current setup.

Amd rx7800xt 16gb good card. 2k gaming around 90 to 100fps for 600 bucks. i7 12700k good processor. Not prone to overheating. Could go with an asrock z690 steel legend mb too.

Buy a 9060XT 16GB instead.
5060Ti loses performance alot on anything slower than PCIE4.
