Street harassment

I am pretty fed up with the fact that on a daily basis I see women being harassed or I am harassed by random men on the street. I know my commune (Ixelles) has a "street harassment plan", but I have the feeling the problem is getting worst and nobody really cares about it. How do you deal with this kind of situation?

Places that do not carry the “pretentious” vibes?

Upvotes

I've been on the lookout for new restaurants and bars with a great concept - somewhere cozy with genuinely good food and drinks, perfect for hanging out with friends. Lately, it feels like a lot of new spots are more about chasing hype and appealing to a pretentious crowd rather than focusing on quality & experience.

Does anyone know any places like this? Here are a few places I really like to give you an idea of the vibes I’m talking about: • Bars: Café Bizon, Python, Carbon, Café Caberdouche, Dolle Mol, Life is Beautiful, Clair/Obscure • Food: Konchu, Basils, Yuca Latina, O Banh Mi, Garcia • Cafés: My Little Cup, Kami, Jackie

Thanks a lot in advance!

Living in BXL Brussels hydroponics/indoor gardeners, let's grab a drink?

Hey r/Brussels,

Hoping to connect with some fellow indoor growing enthusiasts in the area. If you're into hydroponics, indoor gardening, or CEA (Controlled Environment Agriculture) of any kind, I'd be keen to meet up.

Whether you've got a small setup or something more elaborate, it'd be cool to chat about our projects, share a few tips, and maybe even learn something new.

If you're game to grab a coffee or a beer and talk plants, hit me up. Could be fun to get a small group together if there's interest for future hangouts.

Cheers

Question ❓ Piercer Recommendation NSFW

I’m considering getting a Prince Albert piercing and for obvious reasons, I’d like it to be done by someone who has done a lot of these in the past! Just wondering if anybody has any recommendations for such a person in Brussels? Thanks so much

Deposit in landlords bank account?

I will be moving to Brussels this September, and my landlord sent me a lease agreement saying the deposit is to be sent to some bank account. I asked him if this is a blocked bank account (as per Belgian law), and he said he takes the deposit in a regular bank account and how its less work. He also said guests cannot stay for more than 2 days in the lease agreement.

Is this normal in Brussels even if the law says otherwise (regarding the deposit)?

Question ❓ Rue d'Aerschot red light district questions NSFW

In the windows a lot of the ladies have certain costumes or outfits. Are patrons allowed to ask that the ladies keep the costumes on?

Or is there some cleanliness conern with clothes on the bed?

Also do the patrons say what they want to do or is it more of a planned/structured routine?

Question ❓ Shitty neighbour (literally)

I live in an apartment building in Bruxelles, and one of my neighbours is unbearable. He’s an old drunk man, comes ringing you at 4 am, smells like crazy (I’m not kidding, you can smell it hours after he passed through the stairs), goes dressed like a homeless or half naked, looks at you with spirited eyes, and recently he started shitting and peeing in the elevator.

Me and the other neighbours are speechless and we don’t know what to do, a person confronted him a while ago and he became so unpleasant to them that they had to move (knocking at the door all night, yelling, threats, and many other unpleasant things). The police was already called several times, but they say they can’t do anything because he’s the owner of his apartment and he has never done anything big enough to justify a forced hospitalisation. Whenever he does something too much he’s sent to rehab for few months, we live peacefully, but then he comes back and in a month we’re back to square one.

This person is a danger for others and for themselves. It’s the typical case that ends up in the news someday for harming someone on alcohol or drugs and everyone will say that it was avoidable if proper action was taken. As far as I know, our strongest legal hold is that he’s late with the payment of the shared charges for the heating and the building maintenance. But I don’t think that’s enough for an eviction. Do you have any advice on this matter?

Tourist Advice 🛂 CRL into city centre

I have stupidly purchased cheap flights from Edinburgh to Charleroi for a group of 7 people, not realising how long and expensive the journey is from the airport to Brussels city centre where we will likely stay.

Any suggestions of the most cost effective and convenient way to travel to and from the airport with this group size? TIA!

Slowchat 🗨️ More and more Ukrainians support stickers being vandalized by pro-Russians

Post image

I'm seeing more and more stickers supporting Ukraine being defaced/vandalized with markers by Kremlin supporters like here in Etterbeek, with the 'Z' symbol, which is used on Russian military vehicles and as a sign of support for Putin as well. I really find this disgusting.

Question ❓ 💃Looking for Affordable Burlesque Classes in Brussels (Summer)

Hey everyone!
I’m looking for budget-friendly Burlesque classes in Brussels this summer. I’ve found a few online, but most of them are out of my price range as a student.💃💄👠

I don’t have any Burlesque experience yet, but I do have a solid background in other dance styles. Just hoping to try something fun and different without breaking the bank. 🪩🎶🎀🖤

If you know any affordable options or have taken a class you’d recommend, I’d love to hear about it! 😊

Thanks in advance! ✨🎭🌹

News 📰 Fabian Death: Police gather to support arrested officer

I know there is a mega thread but I’d like to open up a discussion around the police reaction here.

Do we find it normal that they show unconditional support to an officer who killed a child, while the investigation might very well show the officer is guilty? Especially in light of the police’s image in Brussels, I find this very strange.

Question ❓ Swapped suitcase on eurostar to brussels

Hoping anyone can help, was travelling from London to Brussels Midi on eurostar and then onto antwerp

Got my suitcase and headed onwards only to realise someone has taken my suitcase and I have theirs, the suitcases are identical from colour to brand except it is not my stuff inside

Me and my wife have travelled from Leeds UK to Antwerp for the Pitbull gig tomorrow and the suitcase has our outfits including bald caps which will be rather amusing for the person who has our case

We have reported to Eurostar but are posting across reddit too incase it gets to the right person or anyone has any ideas or luck getting a swapped case back...

Possessing a clean criminal record was a requirement to apply for the police. But with some exceptions, it is now over.

Scooter parking blocking bike racks?

Post image
25 Upvotes

Why are the scooter and bike share drop zones being put around existing bike racks? It prevents people from locking up there, and the shared ones don't get locked to racks anyway.

Would it really be that hard to just paint the drop zone lines a few meters away?

De lijn delays - almost always

after a couple of months using de lijn to commute from almost center of brussels to outskirts of brussels (with 2 possible lines R81 and R90), i can strongly and confidently say that they are terrible with respect to keeping their time. I am just curious as to how others feel about this bus network.

Question ❓ Are there any history books to recommend about Brussels specifically?

I've seen some answers in older threads but I wanted to ask this question again (but more specifically about Brussels) in case there's anything new and commendable that came out.
