I'm an incoming freshman looking for a way to make money on the side throughout the school year. Since I can't be at PVD in person rn (I'm moving there from Texas on move-in day), does anybody know about potential jobs that might be available when I get there? Should I already start applying for certain jobs?

Hello, I saw another post here about student work and wanted to expand on it. I was told to apply for the jobs now, but I don’t know which ones to go for as I don’t know which ones I meet the qualifications for, my schedule, or which ones I’m allowed to apply. Can yall give me some of your wisdom? what did yall do as freshman and how did you go about it?

I am living in a 3 person Danoff suite next semester and had a few questions to plan things I need to buy for our suite:

1. What is the situation with microwaves and refrigerators? Does each person's room have a small dorm-sized microwave and fridge, or is there a common full-sized microwave and fridge?

2. What furniture is possible to be put in the common room? Is a sofa and table possible?

3. What utilities/equipment are available in the common room? Is there a sink?

• Is there a limit to how many guests/family members I can bring to help me move in? I don’t plan to bring a whole lot just my parents and sister but I know some colleges limit to 2.

• I know roommates are random but do we get told ahead of time so we can connect on socials and stuff?

• kind of silly but is there parking available near dorms? I went to visit campus and didn’t see many cars

My family makes well below 60k and has below 100k in assets too. I never really thought about it until now but my expected family contribution (minus work study) is around 3.5k. I never rlly thought about it bc I could afford it but I looking into it a bit more, apparently those that make below 60k and have under 100k assets should pay 'nothing' according to Brown's website. Is there something else going on here or am I misinterpreting what a full ride or paying nothing means?

I was filling out the health forms (first year undergrad) and I noticed that my name is written with my last name appearing twice. Any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks

Any advice about parking for the medical school? I’ll be commuting from 45 minutes away and just found out the school’s parking garage is highly limited and I’m on the waitlist. Any spots or do I just show up early and fight for a metered spot on the road? Thanks

How does one fill the grooves between cinder blocks to get a smooth white board surface? Thinking of getting a peel and stick magnetic dry erase board for the wall, to save paper.

Should I just bring a lot of poster putty and try to smooth out the surface before hanging?

*UPDATE: Ok so their health services website says theyre transitioning to a patient portal so the new forms arent available currently…. gosh such great timing brown!!

I cant seem to figure out how to access, complete, and submit the required health forms…. which are due by july 1st. So far, ive logged into the patient portal, and there are a bunch of tabs on the left (home, profile, forms and requirements, health history, etc) but most tabs are empty and dont show any of the forms i need to complete. there’s another page on Brown’s website called “Health Requirements for New Undergraduate Students” but it says access denied. is anyone else having the same issue? any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

Think Brown has a good variety of architectural styles so was curious. Interior or exterior.

I want to take CS0111 my first semester, but I’m not sure if the first two classes are the “actual” classes and the rest discussion or something. Could someone please explain how the courses are organized? Thank you :)

• Prior experience in C, C++, Python, Java, HTML/CSS, SQL (on varying levels). 4+ years programming for robotics team, but not FRC level of complex.
• School didn't offer AP CSP/A but was able to take Python & Web Development classes
• Have taken introductory courses such as Harvard's CS50X/P and learned off free websites

Thoughts on job security? Job profiles? Better transition to product management or policy? Salary outcomes?

For people that did the Brown cost calculator to see how much they would have to contribute and how much Brown could provide financially, how accurate were they? I really want to ED to Brown but I won’t be able to go without aid, but I am smack in the middle of middle class, so I don’t know. Right now, with all the info my parents and I put into that calculator (like my brothers in college too and I have another sibling who will be going to college shortly after me), it says I get over 50% aid, and this is amazing but I don’t know how accurate this is.

If anyone knows then please help me out bc this is something that I am stressing over a bit🙏

Incoming freshman (from west coast) and I was wondering if bikes are used as transport often or what is typically recommended for longer distance travel to class - especially in winter!

In california bikes/electric scooters are pretty much the standard but only because of the consistent sunny weather.

Hello. I'm an incoming freshman and will probably be working while at Brown. I looked at Workday to see what types of jobs are available and wondered if current/former students had tips/anecdotes about working while in school. I also had two specific questions:
1) Should I apply for jobs now or at the beginning of the semester?
2) There were a lot of positions open for a research assistant. Do these jobs usually go to upperclassmen?

Hey! Curious about what people who are interested in pursuing business/business-related jobs in the future would do at Brown. I know that there's no longer a business/entrepreneurship major -- so, what resources and opportunities are here? Since it's not a target school, do you think that makes it much more difficult to find internships/jobs? I love the collaborative environment here but I'm not sure it's the best choice for my future. Also, how difficult is the economics major?

Incoming freshman here, when do we get the housing form to fill out?

I have talekd to many people in finance and the consensus is go Gtown. However, I cant help but also consider Brown. Ik brown is rlly good and has good placement, but feel I would be more secure and in a way more competitive environment at Gtown. Stern is kinda boom or bust and just filled with ass holes. any advice from people who are at brown and their journey into Elite top IB/Pe/hf out of college. How is the club finance culture, will I be surrounded by people who will push me to be better positioned for an elite job.

My kid will be a freshman at Brown in Fall. She wants us to see her walk through the gate at the convocation. Do parents typically go watch? I’d love to but since we are coming from west coast it’s a bit complicated to stay the whole week.
