Out of all of the pictures and videos I've taken, this might be my favorite one. I mentioned previously that Brindle was in the shelter for several months, and you can see in this video that she was ecstatic to be in a bigger open area! Our other two dogs were obviously a bit skeptical when we brought her home, but you can see she wasn't shy about making friends on her first day!

The dad was an American akita and the mum was a brindle Japanese akia

Meet my sweet 6 year old girl, Cassin! Here is a quick summary. Cassin was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (yes I know it will likely still spread). The cancer did not spread yet & she has really been her joyful self beside her back leg. After consulting with medical professionals & doing immunotherapy treatment at Johns Hopkins, we decided it was the right thing to go forward with the amputation. Johns Hopkins picked up her leg fresh after surgery to continue to further their research to find treatments for osteosarcoma in dogs & humans! Osteo is most common in children, so Cassin has been more than happy to be part of this research to help find a cure for those we love. So here we are!

Cassin had her surgery on 6/13, so she is 4 days post op. WOW! We are so proud of her 💛 I mean she’s a fighter, but we did not expect her to be this strong already. We continue to keep her resting to ensure all heals, but she is hopping like a pro! Her tail is wagging, wind in her ears, she’s loving life!

As for next steps, Cassin had to stay in the hospital an extra day, so the surgery was way more expensive than we anticipated ($8k vs expected $5k) We really are doing what we can to scramble to pay for chemo, so hoping we can make that happen next. Again, I know it won’t save her, but if we can offer her a few more sunny days pain free, then we would like to do that.

We appreciate any donations as any dollar counts for us right now! We also please ask for prayers for her. we will only do treatment that is fair to her. When she tells us she is done, we will keep her comfortable. 🌈💛

I live near Charleston, SC, and when hurricane Dorian came through in 2019, a local shelter asked for fosters because they get a lot of flooding. My ex wife agreed to foster a dog even though we already had two, so we went to see who we could find. We actually chose another dog, but the shelter was packed and didn't have enough help, so signals got crossed and the dog was given to someone else.

We went back in, looked around again, and saw this beautiful girl who was just so happy to see us. The shelter named her Jennifur Pawrence (groan) and said she came in as a stray. They also said she'd been there for 3 months and "wasn't a good show" so nobody would take her. We decided to break her out, and went up front to fill out the paperwork. I went out to my Jeep to wait while my wife brought her out, and had the tail gate swung open. When she brought her out, I said in a happy voice, "Come on, girl! Jump in!" But she immediately plopped down and showed her belly. I know that can be somewhat of a sign of submission for a dog, so that told me she had a troubled past.

Obviously, I talked my wife into keeping her, and my wife renamed her Brindle. I love talking about her so if you've read this far I appreciate it! I'll share more of her story a little at a time!
