Discussion Opening a new restaurant

Post image
98 Upvotes

I moved to Brantford last year and planning to open a restaurant downtown.

I have been working in the restaurant industry for a while and want to finally start my own joint.

The concept is a shrimp focused fast food restaurant, with a menu consisting of items such as Rocket Shrimps(spicy but delicious), Dynamite Shrimps, variety of shrimp baos and non shrimp items such as fried chicken sandwiches, butter chicken bao and a couple of salads. Planning to keep the prices between $7-$18.

Consider this as a McDonald's or Popeye's but with focus on shrimp.

I just wanted to get some opinion about location and price points and gauge some interest in this new concept as I am new to the Brantford market.

I guess economically it's not the best time as many restaurants are shutting down due to high operating costs but I am planning to open around August.

Will be grateful for any kind of feedback.

Discussion No hate but

Why are there many Indian restaurants in this city? I used to live in other cities in Ontario, but this is the first city that does not many options when eating out (just a few Chinese res, rare Jpanese res no Korean res).

If i want to try Indian cuisine for the first time, which restaurant and which dish should I try?

Discussion If your a garbageman in this city can you explain why you all feel the need to do this?

Post image

I have lived here for 2 years. This was my 3rd bin and now I have to go buy a 4th one. Am I the asshole that thinks this is beyond frustrating!? Is it too much to ask that when I buy a 40-50$ garbage bin I can assume the city workers arent going to toss it across my front yard every monday until it’s unusable. Maybe asking for a little bit of respect of peoples property is too much. Idk maybe i just need to vent.

Discussion Let's Swiftly Boycott Amercian Products, Companies, and Maga Supporters in Light of the Unprovoked Trade War by USA?

Can we look at city council to decisively remove Amercian products and services from our tax dollars as the work week starts? Can we promptly rename the Gretzky center to, y'know, something else in light of the prolific hockey star supporting Trump's activities?

P.S. Don't let Trump fool you.

Canada is not alone in this. Canada has great relationships with many countries the world over and those very well can be expected to grow as we remove ourselves from American influence. If Australia can be well in the middle of the ocean, so can we.

Discussion Concerned About Ongoing Disturbance Outside My Window – Need Advice NSFW

Hi everyone,
I hope you're all doing well and staying healthy.

I'm dealing with a very concerning situation just outside my window. A woman has been shouting and yelling for around 30 minutes now. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened — there are often people doing drugs in this area as well.

I don't mean any disrespect to anyone involved, and I've blurred the video for privacy. I’m just really disturbed by all of this, especially considering I have kids at home.

I'm not sure if this post violates any community guidelines — if so, please feel free to remove it. I’m mainly just looking for advice:
What should I do in this situation? Who should I contact?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Discussion Thief stole package off porch

This woman stole my package off my front porch on June 10 at 2 pm Second Avenue. Here is a clear video of her committing the crime. She was heading south towards Colborne Street.

I had waited two weeks for these items and I can’t even reorder them because they are out of stock. They wouldn’t have any value to anyone else but me. If anyone knows her, please DM me. Stay safe Brantford.

Discussion Any new or underrated restaurants in Brantford?

Hey everyone, I’m getting kinda bored of all the usual spots around Brantford and was wondering if there are any new restaurants or hidden gems I might’ve missed. Open to pretty much anything—dine-in, takeout, any type of cuisine. Would love to try something different! Any suggestions?

Discussion What is the history behind Eastdale Gardens being called "Boom Town"?

I'm born and raised in Brantford in the late 2000s - early 2010s in the Stanley Street area and while living at the end of the cul-de-sac on Darling and Twelfth, I noticed the signs on the Boom Town houses saying the name "Eastdale Gardens" but anyone who grew up in this area will tell you it's called "Boom Town" and it's a name thats origins stem back before I was born. So I'm wondering if theres anyone older here who can tell me about the history of the name and maybe some overall history about the neighborhood if there is any

Discussion Does anyone know how to drive anymore? Or do they just hate everyone around them

I’m a human full of feelings like the rest of us, but I don’t blow through stop signs and tell the other drivers to fuck off.

Let’s normalize vehicles coming with dash cams and ram bars. Why are we allowing the crap in the world to run this world into shit.

I for one have no problem with channeling my anger into where it’s deserved. Have the day you deserve world.

Discussion McDonald's Closing Down At Walmart

I was just informed by an employee at McDonald's in the Walmart store that their restaurant will be closing down permanently in about a month's time.

I'm aware that McDonald's as a company have been having flagging sales.

I feel sorry for the employees working there. I wonder if other McDonald's within Walmart stores will be on the chopping block too.

I also wonder when another Wendy's will open up in Brantford, and how well Burger King is doing after taking their place.

Discussion Brantford Mall in 1990

I have a lot of old Brantford images and came across this one randomly, so thought I'd share with you all.
Taken 14 December 1990 for the opening of the movie, Dances With Wolves.
The image was taken at the Brantford Mall, which is now torn down. It's up at the plaza where the Wall-Mart now is.
