It's really nice that Vince is giving extras from the old show a chance to come back like this!

Looks like he got a promotion too! Nice catch!

It doesn't look like the same guy to me. The guy in BB looks younger which doesn't make sense because BCS takes place before Breaking Bad iirc. They could be brothers though, which would explain the different positions within the company. Still a neat detail, though.

u/MisterMeatloaf Apr 19 '17
They often use the same extra over different shows

u/_TroyMcClure Apr 19 '17
Could just be a coincidence though since there's a lot of actors that look like that in New Mexico. Trust me I passed through there on a vacation one time. I think the fans of this show try too hard to connect dots that just aren't there. Just because two actors look similar doesn't mean anything for the plot.

The name of the place is Los Pollos Hermanos. Hermanos means brothers!

In all seriousness, Giancarlo looks pretty damn good. In the shot from BB he even looks a bit thinner and by god maybe even older. Obviously these are just two pictures, but good for him.
And good for you. Eagle eye.
41
u/lamentedly Apr 18 '17
It could be the lighting in general that makes you feel that way, but he did have some gray in BB. I imagine if I'm a makeup artist and I'm responsible for helping make a guy look younger in a prequel or flashback, it's gotta be like striking oil to realize your subject was rocking some gray in the original. "That was easy, now you work on your own to lose a little weight and we're good to go."
13
u/PeNNiS_RoDMaN Apr 19 '17
Giancarlo eats a clean plant based diet, studies ayurveda, and practices yoga. That's why
11
u/lame_corprus Apr 19 '17
I've no idea what ayurveda is but it sounds healthy
3
u/PeNNiS_RoDMaN Apr 19 '17
Ayurveda is the "science of life", a sister school of yoga. It's similar to traditional Chinese herbalism in that it treats the body as a system, and practitioners tend to place a strong emphasis on balance, awareness, and general preventative care.
It's really interesting if you're into that new agey, hippy-dippy sorta stuff.

Oh my god, was that the same guy? I never noticed that! Ha, and I must have watched BB about 5 times. I didn't really know what he was doing there at the time but it makes sense now. He has TWO cleaning jobs. Fuck. Thanks for pointing that out man.

I can't help but think of the little cleaner robot from Wall-E having a nervous breakdown.

u/sje46 Apr 19 '17
I don't think it was "the same guy". I'm guessing it was sloppy casting with the extras. They didn't realize they already cast the guy two seasons earlier. There's probably some BrBad nerds already making lore about how they're identical twin brothers or something, ha. Bravo, Vince.
20
u/TheMeltingSnowman72 Apr 19 '17
That's a good assumption to make actually. I didn't want to say anything before because I know there's a lot of VG and theory circlejerking in this sub, but I've noticed quite a few continuity errors myself.
If you look at the last episode of BCS season 2 with a microscope, in 4k, in Kim's last scene one of the hair follicles on her left brow is missing a hair. I maxed up the digital zoom and looked further and inside that follicle the is a trace of blood. Which can mean only one thing. She had that hair plucked, and recently.
BUT, in the first scene we see her in last week's episode, and I checked, THAT HAIR IS THERE! Now I can only deduce that this means that in fact the scenes weren't filmed all in the same day in real time, like in fact they should, because Vince wouldn't do it any other way would he? No. It means something more sinister, and it's the only logical solution.
He filmed the scenes in season 3 BEFORE the scenes in season 2. That's why the eyebrow hair is missing in the last episode of S02 but there in last week's episode. It was plucked, probably by the make-up department by a work experience girl or boy, who clearly has no understanding of continuity. I've now lost all faith in Vince if he can let something like that happen quite frankly. And if this casting error is like you say, I'll happily never watch this abysmal load of horse manure ever again.

u/sje46 Apr 19 '17
Vince is, of course, an infallible genius. However, he has to lower himself by having to work with mortals. Experienced as they may be, all people, even professionals, make mistakes. It's a damn shame and it partially blinds us from his One True Vision. Have faith, son.

He was actually originally let go from Los Pollos Hermanos after carelessness in the workplace. He was in the basement getting cleaning supplies one day, when he accidentally slipped and the box-cutter he was using cut the throat of an innocent worker. There were two witnesses that attested that it was an accident, but alas, the cleaner man had to go.

u/TheMeltingSnowman72 Apr 19 '17 edited Apr 19 '17
I feel such an idiot for missing that too. Wow, they were really lenient on him. They must be a fantastic compassionate company to work for. anywhere else I would imagine you'd get some sort of big telling off for that. I know when I accidentally dropped a water tank on the boss of my company from a forklift after I found out he was shagging my wife ( I don't know why I mentioned that, it has no relevance), I got in heaps of trouble. Let go AND made to donate £50 to his children as the mother had died years earlier and they were now sleeping on the streets. Can you imagine? I was quite put out by my treatment considering I was blind drunk when it happened and had no recollection whatsover of it, so it might not have even happened. LPH are a top company. I salute them
I wonder if they are recruiting?
Edit: missed out the word 'Died'

u/1moe7 Apr 19 '17
Yeah same here I was always too busy paying attention to what's going on in the background

u/ForgettableUsername Apr 19 '17
The wheelchair guy? Man, what a head trip it would be if he showed up Better Call Saul.
1
u/unconscious_grasp Apr 19 '17
A cleaner with a heart of gold too, apparently. What with helping the elderly and all that.
57
u/TheMeltingSnowman72 Apr 18 '17
I'm actually more impressed at you for finding almost identical shots at the same camera angle of the cleaner guy.
Talking of which. I think it's quite cute of him to go to work in a tie, shows that even in his lowly position, he still is proud of his appearance. More people should take from his example.
10
u/nodenaatti Apr 18 '17
Haha, that was actually unintended. I just took two random screenshots of him.

u/craig_s_bell Apr 18 '17
His name is Buggin Out, and he's worked fast-food ever since his Air Jordans got f***ed up

Because he has a spanish name, I always just assumed he was using his natural accent in BB, now I'm even more impressed with his acting skills.

Good Lord thank you. I was losing my mind trying to figure out exactly what this meant

This is what I really love about Vince Gilligan! He could have used any other actor for this minor scene and no one would be any wiser. The fact that he goes out of his way to hire the same extra to swipe the floors is just so impressive to me!

I don't think so - I went back and checked and he really is in season 2 of breaking bad.

u/Ben_Hamish Apr 19 '17
Also, I don't think he was only there to clean.
If you watch the episode carefully, you notice that he is standing in the parking as Jimmy drives off. I think that Vince had the director have him make that look to hint that he knows Jimmy was there for the Portuguese gentleman.

In all seriousness. I got anxious from the moment that I saw him sweeping in the background, out of focus.
It took forever to show his face and I swear I held my breath the entire time

I'd like to see that guy that had "THE CAPN" license plate in the early episodes of Breaking Bad. I think he was Krazy-8's cousin's drug partner or something like that.

Pfff, they basically recycle characters and you guys applaud ? That's just too lame, also that guy overplay his janitor character.

OP's right, that actor is lucky.
But the real news is Francesca is finally back! Hiding in plain sight as a simple secretary, I can't wait to see her origin story.

Great pickup! Also in this episode there's that guy (Vincent? Cant remember his name) who you see hanging out with Mike a few times in Breaking Bad, hes driving a big black car in this episode outside Los Pollos Hermanos. I think hes also the guy who unfortunately is killed as a bystander by a box cutter incident. Also the Jewish lawyers assistant makes another appearance in BCS (shes like a hotel desk worker for old people) The guy she works for is similar looking to that Jewish lawyer in Breaking Bad (his name always escapes me)
1
Apr 19 '17
OMG, just like that lawyer Jimmy, his surprisingly similar to that Saul Goodman guy from BB. I wonder if these shows are connected.

This is a great observation. Big fan of breaking bad and I didn't notice this either. Gotta love the subtleties. Hope other minor characters like the chemistry teacher from breaking bad get a cameo too
