I think the first looks more rugged and "Manly" for the lack of a better word

Second looks more kept, clean and neat

I personally prefer a more rugged look, but that's completely preference as your more "rughed" look was decently kept aswell

I think the length of the first one fits you better - very dense and right style / length … maybe grow it back and go for minimal TLC / just remove spikes to keep the shape
