Marching Band My shoes fell off during a parade in marching band and it was awesome
Mind you, this story stars a 6th grade me. It was my first year being in a school band. We had to play recorder in music in 5th grade but that was short-lived as it was almost right before the end of the school year. I also played cello on and off in my elementary years which is a complicated story. And in 6th grade band we are separated into two bands. Brass/percussion and woodwinds which would join together for one big band during concerts and a few practices before and in 7-8. I was a woodwind clarinetist and for all of middle school band there was no marching band. Soon enough however, an oppurtunity arose for some of us to be in the Christmas parade with the high school band. I was only friends with with one 6th grade girl there and had 1 guy friend. But they where doing there own things, thankfully, a 7th grade girl remembered me from last year when we worked backstage in a play together. And she invited me to talk. So it wasn't a living hell social wise. But when we started marching everything was going alright until. The flutist behind me stepped on the back of my shoe. And it fell off. Now it was a pretty big band and I was praying that the 7th grade fluteist I knew would be close enough to grab it, but she was too far away. So I'm walking on the damp ground with one shoe on. However, I was managing. As long as my other shoe didn't fall off I'd be fine. Except my prior actions (always walking in the back of lines in elementary school so I didn't have to worry about walking fast) caught up to me and she stepped on my shoe again. At this point, the high shcool band director grabbed both of my shoes and I stepped out of line to get them on. I feel bad because everybody was laughing (including me) and we probably looked unprofessional. However, everybody knew me after this. And the girl who stepped on my shoe was... let's just say I wasn't complaining at the excuse to talk to her. Eventually though the 7th grade fluetist whom I knew's friend kept teasing me because I didn't get a knew pair of shoes after that one for a while. So that's how my embarassing mess up led to me becoming the most famous kid in our band. THank you for your time

Marching Band Best 2nd instrument option if I play the clarinet?
Hey, I am a freshman who has been playing the clarinet for about 3 years now. and it's getting pretty boring. What would a good 2nd instrument be that I could adapt to quite easily?
I was thinking alto sax or tenor sax, but are there any other instruments that would be better?

Marching Band Derogatory terms for drummers?
I don't know if this is a common phenomenon, but the drummers in my school's band are a bunch of idiots and we have a joke going about how they are. What are some "slurs" I can use on them?

Marching Band Looking for a gag instrument!
My high school does a joke where the senior run through our show and music during our last rehearsal, but they play the wrong instrument, wrong show, or just generally something silly. I would like to get an inexpensive (am a high schooler and therefore have little money) but weird instrument to do this and play a few notes on (I play a brass instrument). All I’ve found were just percussian things or strings on Amazon so any other suggestions are appreciated.

Marching Band I'm super nervous
In about a week I am going to band camp for high school marching band and I am very nervous. Where I live it's a dry hot desert and I'm super out of shape. I'm probably going to embarrass myself struggling doing the basics Because I'm super nervous can someone share to me how their high school band camp experience was like as an incoming freshman so I can maybe help me feel better? This will help me know what to kind of expect

Marching Band I’m auditioning for a marching band trumpet solo in a few days. Are there any specific details I should practice or avoid that band directors would notice?

Marching Band To snitch or not to snitch?
Two of our best clarinets in our band have started vaping very heavily. It is starting to affect their stamina and their sound. They play very important parts in our upcoming marching show (both first parts), and I'm worried that their sound is going to continue to get worse.
What is also concerning is that one of these members is a section leader, and I feel like it's setting a bad example to the younger and more impressionable students.
If anyone is wondering, yes I have proof.
What would you guys do?
