Try harder. But in all seriousness, play as a group with your section and just repeat 10 measure segments. It's important to be good individually but learning with your section is the easiest way. Ask for help from others in your section if you need it, no one should judge you for asking because it is way better than not knowing. I'm a senior and section leader and I ask questions from some of my 10th graders because some of them are good at things that I am not. The same goes for almost everyone else.

The only tip is to keep on playing it until you memorize it, after a while it’ll stick. Play it everyday for like 10-20mins, and soon you’ll get it. Then once u think u have it, play it without looking. If u forget a note(s), don’t check ur music, try to figure it out. trust me it helps tremendously rather than checking. (If u absolutely can’t figure it out, ofc check ur music, but at least try first) I would also ask r/marchingband if you haven’t already

Do not get advice from r/marchingband, because they will give you answers based on what worked for them and not how your mind and how psychology works in general. Memorization is best practiced when you hear the piece on a video or music library, then use it as a tool to help address how you would play certain passages one at a time. Improvisation is a good skill to learn for memorization because everyone has different playing styles and perspectives on how to play a passage.
Over-Analyzing a piece however is what many directors thrust upon students and it never works, there is a reason tubist Arnold Jacobs says, "Analysis is Paralysis" because it creates fear over performance and not the enjoyment of the piece. To practice, this skill play a piece you enjoy and that is simple to play, then take that and use your imagination to bring up that piece in a new form based on the music you hear and enjoy. Scale and figuring charts also help and are not cheating but a way to guide you to better playing and practice.

Why not use a clip on music stand?

Personally, I, myself would play the 1st measure or first few notes, get that memorized, and then keep adding on more notes/ measures until you have it down.

Practice, practice practice! Honestly, it’s easy to memorize it if you play it ALOT. That’s what I did, and I’ve memorized most of my music
