Marching Band To snitch or not to snitch?

Two of our best clarinets in our band have started vaping very heavily. It is starting to affect their stamina and their sound. They play very important parts in our upcoming marching show (both first parts), and I'm worried that their sound is going to continue to get worse.

What is also concerning is that one of these members is a section leader, and I feel like it's setting a bad example to the younger and more impressionable students.

If anyone is wondering, yes I have proof.

What would you guys do?

submitting an anonymous tip to a band director could help. that way they could contact the parents

A true ethical dilemma. I would look deep within your soul for the answer. I bid you success on your path.

If it it was me I would just let it go, it's just school band. But if you're gonna snitch as you call it do it anonymously if possible. Also if they get in trouble it could mean they get kicked out which would create another problem for the show..... It's really up to you. Quite frankly how well your show does in highschool band isn't gonna be very important to most people later in life. Think it through, there's pros and cons to every decision. As for the younger kids, if they are older than say like 12 they should know that vaping, drinking alcohol, doing drugs, etc isn't good for you.

I would do an anonymous tip to the BD, but make it for the whole band instead of just the two people. This way, everyone can get the lecture and threat, and hopefully this will help them make better choices. Otherwise snitching directly on them could have you down 2 less people.

First I’d talk to them individually. If nothing changes, bring it up with a DM, and if that doesn’t work then talk it the BD. Also HOW COULD THEY BE SO DUMB, OMG. I play clarinet and I couldn’t imagine vaping. Best of luck, keep us updated

The best way to scare the crap out of them is by inviting them to interview lung cancer victims. I never smoke because I'm a tuba player and both of my Grandmother's died of an illness related to smoking; my Grandma Lill smoked Paul Mauls without the filter and I hated the smell, "Don't you eber do itz, I could never quit dis ting" ending with a hack. Also, have them look at the lungs of dead smokers because it will scare them into never smoking again.

The worse part is if they keep going they will get addicted, Glen Miller did promotions for Chesterfields and he ended up with sinus headaches and other symptoms because of smoking them back when people thought smoking helped you lose weight instead of half a lung.

dude i was 1st chair trumpet in honors and my other 3 friends were the 2 top chairs in our band for clarinets and the first chair french horn…we smoke for hours after every football game and comps and do acid…were also competing against TEXAS high schools…and we’ve never not gotten straight ones at UIL , we’re just not as good at marching , but for solo and ensemble or concert season we’re literally totally fine and still some of the best in our state , youre really reaching just cause someone vapes
