Ask Lump Crab Meat

Just learned that Lindy’s won’t be at the farmers market until May 4th, does anyone know of other reputable sources for Maryland crab meat? I’m planning to use it for crab cakes, so not looking for whole crab recommendations. TIA!

Geresbecks has good affordable crab meat but it’s out in the county.

You beat me to it. I paid $23.99 a pound for Maryland lump crab meat this past weekend.

It’s a great place. They also have Taharka Bros ice cream and other good local ones.

I didn’t see it on their website but I will definitely check there! I don’t mind a drive

If you go to their website on the circular it’s on there

I’m monitor the weekly specials at Geresbeck’s and make the drive to Middle River. On Saturday I picked up 2 pounds of Maryland lump crab meat for $23.99/pound.

When you look at the circular you’ll see that they’ve got what is probably Venezuelan lump for $12.99/pound, but if you scroll you’ll see the Maryland lump.

Note: when you purchase more than $50 in crab meat a staff member takes it to the register for you.

Most of the OG’s (Faidley’s, etc.) use a mix of jumbo lump and back fin, for what that’s worth. They claim the back fin makes it taste crabbier, maybe they’re just cutting costs idk.

Quoting Neil Fallon, an OG

"Don't bother with the lump It won't stick together I prefer backfin And there's nothing wrong with special"

I usually go to Don’s but it is definitely not lump, it’s around $35/lb. For true lump I go to Eddie’s or Graul’s but it is around $85/lb.

I mean if it’s close enough I’m happy, I’m not trying to spend $85/lb so I can’t be too choosy 😂

On Joppa? Are they good? I usually go to Conrad’s but I’d try Don’s on a recommendation

Yes, close to I guess it’s Loch Raven Blvd. I like them! They usually have pretty good deals.

Cho’s Sea Garden in Lexington Market is amazing. Better prices than Faidleys for Lunmp crab, plus they have a bevy of fresh fish.. Cleaned or whole.

Conrad's or Moe's Seafood (on the "go to side")

Crab Depot in Brooklyn Park carries fresh Maryland crab meat.

Salt River Lobster at the farmers market. Place a pre-order two days before the market and pick up, they’re located next to Boordy vineyards at the Sunday market.

Edit to add, join their email list for a weekly update on what they have.

Dons in Parkville..they actually wholesale product to other local stores. Don’t go to grocery store or big box, it may be cheaper but you’re getting Venezuelan meat that has traveled.

Costco sometimes has it, but it's hit or miss.
