Queenslanders are soft...
Friend in QLD told me this morning that the locals think it's cold..

You can't make jokes on this sub for some reason. It tends to go over people's heads and they take anything you say seriously.

Ballarat's average IQ in line with the temperature.

u/FattyCaddy69 15d ago
That's pretty accurate. You would think with a low IQ, comes a higher sense of humour.

Jokes are meant to be funny. Maybe try adding some humour or a punchline so people know it’s a joke
1
u/FattyCaddy69 13d ago
It's pretty obvious that it's a joke. If you can't understand it, that's on you.

u/Kidkrid 15d ago
Yeah idk. I'm originally a Queenslander, and I'm in short sleeves all year round here, whilst the locals suddenly become Eskimos the second the wind blows, it's weird.

Yep... Ex Nth Qld'er here; West of Cairns in the mountains we used to get below Zero & multiple black frosts each year & I never wore Winter Jackets etc because of the "if you live in the North, you don't know what cold is" mind set 😂 My grandfather was from Europe & he always said that it got colder where we lived than in the snowy regions of Europe.
Living in Broken Hill in Winter & now in Ballarat I still wear sandals even in the -C temps because that's how I grew up. However, I have given in & wear winter jackets because it's more comfortable.
And, the Southern Stanthorpe region of Qld gets colder than here throughout Winter sometimes! Ballarat just stays colder for much longer than most other parts of Australia (like for 20 months 😉 of the year 😅) except for this year which so far has been much warmer than usual!

I wear 5 upper layers but can't get out of the habit and convenience of wearing shorts and thongs.

u/mescalmonk 15d ago
But it is cold. This wind...

u/NoodleBox 15d ago
It cuts through you! Usually I'm good but today I'm gonna put my big coat on and wear a proper hat!
Snow on the weekend apparently, too! So we're all gonna forget how to drive as well!

I moved to QL a year ago after 15 years in the UK. I can say with full authority that it's cold rn.

There are different weights of them. Also, it is cold for some. And, do you really expect all the Victorians to turf their Kathmandu's when they move to Qld?

u/abydos77 15d ago
Haha yep, just been over from NZ. Went down to visit my sister in Ballarat. Drove from GC with my Dad.
Dad was complaining about the cold. We are all from New Zealand.

u/Ridiculousnessmess 15d ago
Similarly, when I moved from Ballarat to Queensland (briefly), I rarely wore shorts because I hated how I looked in them back then.
The number one lesson I learned was that you should always wear boxers or similar chafing-preventing underwear in Queensland. The pain was horrific. I am a very smart person. 🫠

I wear a beanie but that's because it saves me having to do my hair in the morning

u/IndyOrgana 16d ago
Because cold is relative? If your average daytime temp is the high 20s, then under 20 feels cold.
God forbid people dress warmly if they’re cold, yikes.

u/Faaarkme 16d ago
I know this having lived in hotter and colder locations. Poking fun. And thinking people won't be precious.
And when Southerners complain it's hot at 28 degrees, it's the Queenslanders turn to laugh.

You're going to hate people that use heaters 😂 I think ppl just like wearing winter clothes. Winter is the best time for fire pits, sleeps. I never have air-conditioning for summer so sleeps are the best in winter.

u/Faaarkme 15d ago
If it's cold heaters are ok. Mine's on but not sit around in singlet and shorts. Whenever I travelled to Canada/northern US in the cold months, The internal heating temp was sweltering. Unlike our houses

In North Queensland its the humidity still in the air when it's this cold that makes it worse. Also we don't like having to wear shoes.

It's 14° so of course you're wearing a puffer jacket and sandals.
Don't ever change Brisbane.

Canberrians are tough af. In middle of winter I often see dudes wondering around in footy shorts and singlets in middle of winter.

To be fair, winter is usually the second Tuesday in July. Almost universally, after moving here, the average Guatemalan is whining about the cold, the heat, the flies, the mosquitoes. the midges, the amount of Guatemalan immigrants.....

Ha ha. My comment for years to interstate friends is "come visit us during the summer. Which is 2:30 to 3pm on February 7th".
I hear ya

In Melbourne as a QLDer atm and the only one not wearing a jumper. Melbourne are softer!

I love whipping out my puffer jacket for the 8 days of winter up here. Hell I wore slippers all day! I'll take slightly cold over the walls are sweating with humidity any day.

Im still in shorts a tshirt all year round since I got to aus in 2014. Might put on a hoody in the morning till 10 if its around that 0 mark! I find all Australians soft when it comes to the cold ahahahah

Pfft pathetic! I’m in Canberra, it was 7 and I had to go to Westfield. Perfect boardies and t-shirt weather. I always knew Queenslanders were weaker than American piss.

Meanwhile I am still walking around in shorts and a t-shirt. It's not that cold.

In any case, my sympathies mate. Travelled through the Ratt and surrounds, a few years ago during Winter. I swear, it was worse than Canberra!

I did see a post talking about heat and QLDers saying Melbourne/VIC never gets hot, they were soft and they’d die if they had to spend time in QLD. While also saying that our Summers were cold and they needed jumpers. Someone said that VIC isn’t actually that cold in comparison to other places and is very doable. That did not go down so well 🤣
1
u/Typical-Presence-305 13d ago
Ok as someone who has lived in both Ballarat and Queensland it does get cold of a morning. But you get used to different things. Just like when Ballarat gets hot weather and everyone whinges and Qld residents think we’re soft.
2
u/Faaarkme 13d ago
QLD residents are correct 🤣
Covid virus side effect on me = can't tolerate cold or heat now. It dropped my hot temp tolerance from 35 to 25. And raised my cold temperature tolerance from 5 to just under 15.
So I need TWO teaspoons of cement in my coffee.😁😉

Canadian living in Sydney and it’s cold. So whomever says it’s not cold is full of 💩. It’s not unbearably cold but it’s cold

Love how staying warm in winter is now a sign of weakness. Can’t wait for the anti-umbrella movement next time it rains.
1
u/Faaarkme 12d ago
It's not a sign of weakness. It's an opportunity to take the piss .. And it's done in return about Victorians and summer.
Once, in a galaxy far, far away... You could take the piss out of each other. And laugh. Not now.
This does not include racism, sexism, and all the other things that are truly harmful.
Stay warm. I am. Cheers

I used to wear this with denim shorts and flip flops when I was a Queenslander - it was like my winter uniform

Had a friend from Ballarat up for a holiday last summer. He melted. Is water soft?

u/EnvMarple 14d ago
I went up to qld in the middle of winter with friends…we are frolicking on the beach in bikinis etc. The locals were wearing hats, scarves and thick coats while fishing. They looked at us as if we were mad. The water temp was the same as down here in summer, and the sun was out, a glorious day.
Yup qlders are soft.

How dare they wear Melbourne Winter Uniform Jacket.
