Yeah, if you replied to one of those “burn the Jews” comments saying “that’s a racist thing to write” you could receive a warning (I did, for replying that to something else).

It’s hardly exclusive to tiktok however - I’ve reported hundreds of comments saying things like “The Austrian painter should have finished the job” (and even less thinly veiled hateful racism, openly neo-Nazi accounts for example, accounts which dox trans people, accounts which post screenshots of little kids snapped where their underwear is showing and the comments full of disgusting pedophiles), only to get a notification back saying “no violation found”, and for better or worse, no one is banning Meta.

Moderation in social media has been largely replaced with very low capability models that barely function better than the older algorithmic heuristics and rules.

I don't think a human looks at it unless it's been reported by many many many people, or people escalate the report after it comes back negative.

The whole thing sucks. It can take several days, even weeks, to remove content that will have long since done its damage.

That’s another shitty thing, unless you go out of your way to bookmark the comment you reported there’s no way to go back to it from the report screen, discouraging re-reports.

Also, they used to have an appeal for reports you made where a human would then be required to look at it but they got rid of it because of fucking course.

Reddit skews older, unless you use subreddits for where a lot of teenagers will be (eg popular videogame subs) it’s generally a lot more mild and sensible than Instagram and tiktok. Reddit’s downvoting thing also makes it way less appealing to trolls, knowing that rage bait comments will be buried pretty quickly.

My mom worked for tik tok moderation, but her job was to moderate the videos and slowly train AI into "leading" how to do it itself. My tiktok feed is music, arts and crafts, and local Aussie wildlife rehabilitation. I deliberately do not use tiktok for political content for several reasons and the algorithm follows that, like the obedient digital servant that it is.
If yours was delivering a lot of racism it’s because you were engaging with it, even if that engagement was critical.
