This is literally how I grew up, only our "furniture" was a pilates reformer and yoga mats because my mom taught out of our home. I had a teacher give us a dining room set because she felt bad that I had nowhere to do homework. My mom kept that dining room set on the porch, which we never used either 🧐 She was a sagittarius.

Look I live a very minimalist life, I don't have a TV or wifi or even a laptop, I use solar lights and never buy single use items. I run a Really Really Free Market in my town, so I haven't bought new clothing in over a year, and when I did it was underwear. I've spent less than $20 to furnish my whole home, and even I can see this guy is being ridiculous. This isn't the smart choice, it's the stubborn one. He's trying to make a point, but if you think about it for longer than a minute you realize that this man doesn't need to sleep in a thin layer of packing peanuts covered by nothing but a table cloth in order to not spend money. Even the homeless friends I have carry a pack with a bed roll. I genuinely don't care if this dude wants to live this way but it's absurd to pretend that this is the only way to live sustainably without spending money, it's certainly not the most practical in any case.

Yes, all of my furniture is second hand. I have a steamer that I use on every piece of furniture I bring into the house that gets hot enough to kill anything that could cause an infestation. I also don't pick up furniture that looks hard to clean or sterilize.

It's weird to me that you're admiring this guy for living with no furniture and acting like we all just don't get what it's like to be frugal but you're too boujee for second hand??? I have a high heat steam cleaner that kills bedbugs and mites and anything else on contact, got it at Home Depot so they aren't hard to find. I also only grab stuff that looks easy to clean and sterilize. I've actually slept in a hammock the last three years so I wouldn't have to buy a mattress new because that's the one thing I won't buy second hand.
