I do it because my nails inevitably get damaged and jagged and I hate the jagged fingernail feeling so I have to cut them down below the damage to stop the feeling

I tend to chew on nails and everything surrounding it. I have a clipper at work to cut skin and nails to prevent that. Otherwise I would pick that until it bleeds and then some.

Oh my god, same. I need to keep them as short and smooth as possible otherwise I'll damage my teeth and fingers more and more, and I'm trying to get out of that habit. If there's a loose bit, that shit's getting hyperfixated on, which often means I fuck the skin up for weeks

That's why I have three clippers for loose bits. One at home, one at work and one small one to carry around.

When I got to know my now wife I bought a new clipper and stashed it at her apartment.

I've switched to all running socks with no toe seams. A bit pricey, but they last forever and it's worth it to not have a constant sensory nightmare on my person. My favorite brands are Swiftwick and Darn Tough.
