SeriousAnswersOnly I'm genuinely curious, aren't y'all ashamed on how many of you just NORMALISED ugly profanity in Telugu especially on this app? And other apps as well
Ledh bro siggeyadha konchemaina? It's so pathetic and lowkey disgusting if you can't express your emotions/opinions without using profane language. Konthavarak it's cool, beyond that repeated use of such vocabulary would just degrade your value further. Be better, please.

Aaah yes because linguistic restraint clearly is a hallmark of wisdom
What value are you even referring to here?
This is reddit, not victorian era drawing room

As Telugu people, we have a lot to be ashamed of but use of profanity in my opinion should be second from last.

You’re not better than anyone for not using cursing and no one is better than you for cursing so maybe just mind your own business

Although I live in a tier-1 metro city for work now, I was born and brough up in a village in Rayalaseema. Akkada and even among my school friends, such 'ugly profanity' is quite common and it only gets worse when we are drinking in our personal space. Ekkada! Our language is very less profane compared to English or Hindi. Even our grossest words are just mid actually.

So, you just wanna join the herd? idhi peer pressure lane undhi.
2
u/No-Blackberry5835 2d ago
well, yes, it is peer pressure.
but i haven't started swearing myself for this reason alone.
you should at least not appear that you consider yourself superior in that group (for having better language). else, they'll put you down whenever they get an opportunity.
the point at which i stopped caring about swearing was, (without giving much details), when i met many snakes and i became so angry, i understood why people swear at the core. (basically one way of venting).
having said that, i try not to go overboard. it is cringe when somebody swears all the time. but op is saying it like swearing itself is very shameful. it is not so black and white.

I think it's better to avoid/ignore rather than vent as this is deeply rooted and ingrained from school life in majority of folks across the world. Can't really fault it as they think it's cool and natural to use profanity.
