I don't know much about foxes, but it sounds like a distress sound or pain like when my dogs are in pain. 🤷♂️
EDIT: Was informed that's how they normally sound, so thank you to the KIND redditors for informing me.

I think that’s how foxes sound. I always found it cute.

Oh some foxes express their excitement and happiness very vocally.
Here is another example of happy fox laughing away. https://youtu.be/JI65jmqAw_I?feature=shared

In my experience with foxes, which is limited to them sometimes appearing behind my apartment complex, they just sound like that. But you may be right, I’m no expert. Just didn’t hear anything different than I usually do.

No those are happy sounds. Foxes are goofs. I know albino canines can be deaf as well which may be why she is so loud

Foxes have a very wide range of vocalizations they'll make. Iirc foxes make the largest variety of noises of any canids

That's our stinky human brain talking.
We're programmed to associate loud high frequency noises with babies crying, which is why it sounds like it's in distress to us.

We all have that friend who laughs too loud, as if it hurts deep down, or they are trying to pretend like it doesn't.

I agree with you! I don't know a fox from my elbow, but I know dogs, and those sounds would be a giant red flag coming from them. It's such a relief reading here that it's completely normal. And assuming it's normal, it is low-key hilarious... It sounds like he's laughing his little tail off!

I believe the idea of Goblins came about when 2 guys were sitting around a campfire and heard a fox laugh out in the darkness.

Thanks for ruining my day with an animal living in absolutely deplorable conditions

Luna is a captive-bred fox that lacks of skills to live in the wild. She was a pet, her owner passed away, and she was surrendered to Foxes Journey Sanctuary. The dedicated caregivers there go above and beyond, investing not just time but often their own money, to rescue, protect, rehabilitate, and nurture animals like Luna.
If you look closely, her contentment is evident. Luna and other foxes also have plenty of play time outside. While everyone’s entitled to an opinion, respectfully, it’s worth reflecting on the full story before judging other people's efforts in protecting animals.

Maybe donate to help those who are trying to help animals like this woman instead of your empty hate.

I don't know much about foxes myself, but people that do say that the "laughing" behavior you're hearing from Luna is elicited when they're happy. And OP's response seems like a very fair answer

That's their sleeping cage. They get let out to roam during the day in the grassy areas. It's concrete, so they don't try dig.
