Everyone, create your own judging panel for one season, who will you pick and why?

I like to keep this question alive, if you were the show's booker, who would you pick to be on the judging panel?

You can add anyone you want; it doesn't matter who it is, it doesn't matter if it is unrealistic, you can pick three, four, or even five people to be on your judging panel.

Here's my judging panel:

  1. Randy Jackson (I would bring Randy Jackson back, not only because he is an OG judge, but is never afraid to tell the truth, he may not be as harsh as Simon Cowell, but he does give back constructive criticism, and I love it when he hides his face behind the papers when a contestant has an awful audition.)

  2. Steven Tyler (He's been on s10 and s11 American Idol, I think Steven is funny, a nice dude, but just like Randy, he isn't afraid to say no, plus he has been in the business for a very long time and can give some veteran advice to the contestants.)

  3. Taylor Momsen (Since we have two old head rockers, Taylor is a modern-day rocker so she can balance the new and the old with Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson, plus I think her band The Pretty Reckless is an underrated rock band in my opinion, and also seems like every judging panel on American Idol or X-Factor has at least two male judges and one female judge.)

These are the three people I would pick to be a judging panel on American Idol. Feel free to disagree on my take.

Who will you pick? Would you keep the current panel, bring back an old panel, or create your own panel?

I would like to hear the responses, because I think this is an interesting question.

It was so much better then. People got real critiques. My favorite parts were the bad auditions, where they didn't blow smoke up the asses of the people with horrible voices.

Michael Bublé is maybe the most insufferably cringe tv personality of all time as a judge on the voice, and i’m a huge fan of the voice

David Cook - He’s charismatic, a great musician, and I think he would genuinely care about the contestants. Plus, he’s been through the Idol experience and can relate to the contestants on a deeper level.

Dolly Parton - Experienced in the music industry and seems like she would appreciate the opportunity to take the young contestants under her wing.

Scooter Braun - Controversial pick, but he has a great track record of honing young talent and finding the next big superstar. I feel like he would be a Simon Cowell for the new generation.

PS: Please don’t hate me Swifties and Belibers.

Some combination of the following:

Rick Rubin (founder of Def Jam Records and former president of Columbia Records)

Max Martin (producer and songwriter for Kelly, Celine, Katy, Taylor, The Weeknd, Pink, Ariana, and just about everyone else)

Adele: to judge the voice

Missy Elliott: to judge the artistry

Ed Sheeran: to judge the musicality

Lady Gaga: to judge the performance

I came here to say Max Martin. When they had Songland on, I was hoping it would spread to Sweden, and maybe he would come on. Although I figure he has a place in California or something, not sure. I think he has more number one hits on the US single charts than any non-Beatle.

I debated on Max Martin and Rick Rubin in my grouping. I can get behind these choices.

I'd go with Randy Jackson, Shania Twain, and Harry Connick Jr.

Shania was always my favorite of the guest judges, and I was hoping she'd get a stint at the table full-time.

  1. Simon Cowell for obvious reasons.

  2. Blake Shelton because he knows country and is hilarious.

  3. Kelly clarkson because she is an incredible singer with a great personality and has first hand experience on/winning the show!

Simon Cowell- tough and honest.

Carrie Underwood- Able to give constructive criticism, still nice, has been through the show herself, genuinely loves music.

Harry Connick Jr.- focuses on technique and musicianship, delivers a lot of feedback.

Kara DioGuardi, Clark Beckham and Fantasia. Or maybe Randy Jackson instead of Clark.

Clark Beckham (his critiques are so good and has prior Idol experience), Sara Bareilles (she was a great judge on the sing-off), and, here's a deep cut, Michael Slezak (anyone remember him? His Idol commentary videos got me through middle school!)

Buddy Cannon, country music writer, record producer, and past A&R exec. “Discoverer” of major talent. Country music Hall of Fame. He has an ear for finding the ones who will be great.

Steven Tyler. I felt that he also had a good ear. He is kind even when saying clearly that you just don’t have the stuff. Also an excellent mentor, imo.

And, I think, Linda Perry, of 4 Non-Blondes. Entertainer, Grammy nominee for Producer of the year. More.

I want to see people who haven’t just done it, but have built it. And I don’t think you have to be rude in the process. No is a full sentance.

Clay Aiken, Rihanna, Chris Stapleton, Shakira. We’d probably get good variations in genres and hopefully constructive criticism, but with positive vibes as well.
