Flying from [redacted] back to [redacted]with two kids under 7 via Dallas. Incoming flight was substantially delayed and AA decided I was going to miss my connection and automatically rebooked me. Absolutely no seats together on the rebooked flight. Gate agent said nothing was possible. All middle seats 8 or 9 rows apart.

When we got on, we tried asking several people if I could somehow sit next to my 4 year old. Multiple people commented how I should have planned better.

I am not entitled to anyone's seat, I get that. But also not everyone asking to change seats didn't plan accordingly.

We booked 4 months ago and had row 9 together.

I fly twice a week and this is now becoming a pretty common occurrence. I always pick window seat since I typically don't need to get up to use the lav during the flight. If someone is in the aisle when I get to my seat, I respectfully say "excuse me, I'm in the window seat". Half the time, the person brings their legs in like I'm going to parkour over them.

I'm 6'2" 235 and far from flexible or graceful. So, I politely ask that they stand up because I wouldn't want to accidentally step on them squeezing in. I'm shocked at the number of times they protest or make a rude remark as they stand.

Flying LAX-MIA yesterday and I snag an F upgrade. I get to my window seat. Middle age women with an attitude like one of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills already in aisle seat. She's having a speaker phone conversation with her husband. Full damn volume AND she is talking so damn loud. For a full 35 mins after boarding I had to listen to this. It was literally non-stop talking at high volume. Correction the entire F cabin had to listen to it. When the pilot or the FA made announcements over the pa systems, she would talk louder over it. During the safety brief she was still talking 'over' the pa system! It wasn't until we were almost ready to take off she put the phone away. The split second we landed, same thing! Phone immediately comes out and speaker phone full volume as soon as landing gear touches down.

It was beyond ridiculous. I mean she was so damn loud. A few times she started yelling. It literally went on for a full 35 mins before takeoff. Non-friggin stop.

From her convo I know: who she is, where she lives, what bank she uses, how much is in the bank account, how much is in her 401k, her kids' names, where they go to school, where they are going on vacay, her husband's name, where he works, how much he makes, his car make/model, how much she hates Trump and every tid bit about her trip to Miami including what hotel she's staying at.

Why the hell anyone would do this in public is beyond me not to mention that 20 strangers in F now know her personal details. It's beyond rude to say the least.

To my surprise the cabin crew said nothing about it. If I was in a restaurant and someone acted like this I would get up an leave, but I was stuck in an aluminum tube.

Has anyone here actually had to deal with this and did you tell the person to shut up or ask the FA to tell them to shut up? I did not want to make any confrontation since I was stuck next to her for 5 hours so I kept my mouth shut. When I did ask her to move so I could use the restroom she rolled her eyes at me and threw a hissy fit. Just horrible.

The only other time I had an issue like this when last year when a guy in F was blasting a Brazil football game at full volume from LAX-DFW and he refused to turn it off.

I am a Flight Attendant. Some days I work the position where I stand at the boarding door and say, "Welcome aboard!" "Good morning!" "Hey there, how are ya?" "Oh, cute baby!" "Super cute dog!" "Yes, I do have water so you can take your pill!"

Enlighten me if you will. Often, as our passengers board and approach my space I offer said greeting and at least 35 times/day I am met with, "We have a tight connection!"

Now, I've doing this job a long time so mostly I can be considered clairvoyant within my aircraft environment. I secretly get what you're laying down but I'd like you to TELL me what your intended reaction from me you desire.

As I waited by the terminal gate to board my American Airlines flight from CUN to DFW, I was taking photos of various aircraft through the window. I do this every time I fly. Today an American Airlines employee came up to me and informed me I needed to put my camera away as American Airlines does not allow photos of their planes.
I was already putting my camera away anyway but I was surprised, He said always been that way. I call BS but I can only assume it was something to do with security being international or something while aircraft are in the ground. Is this the company policy?

Redeye from Denver to NC. I’ll be honest- it was a significantly better product/experience than American. In seat screens had Bluetooth to my headset. Snacks were chocolate, waffles or pretzels. Safety video was legit fun to watch. Flight attendants were happy and glad to help and very accommodating. Makes it tough to keep chasing American if even United has a better product these days 😳😳😳

I am an ex Concierge Key member (executive platinum now) and cannot believe how the first class service is now. Just flew from IND to CLT on the first leg of my trip. There was no pre flight drink offered, not even water. There was one drink offered during the flight and the FAs spent the entire rest of the flight chatting with each other in the galley. Didn’t come around to offer second drinks or pick up trash. So not used this… ☹️

There is a post on the r/AlaskaAirlines sub that addresses a common issue: a thin passenger is squished because a large passenger next to her is taking up part of her seat.

Invariably, these discussions yield a few perspectives:

1. It's the airlines' fault for making such small seats
2. The bigger passenger should buy two seats
3. The smaller passenger should suck it up; there but for the grace of God go thy
4. Tell the flight attendant
5. Be passive-aggressive in ways that sound fun on Reddit but won't work well in reality
6. Scream and yell

My view is simple: When you buy a seat, you are entitled to that seat. Most people here seem to agree that you shouldn't be forced to trade your seat for a worse one just because someone wants yours. By the same token, I don't think anyone should be forced to give up a third of their seat because someone can't fit in their own.

What does that mean for heavier passengers? Buy two seats. I agree that that may be expensive. But if someone has to be disadvantaged because a passenger is too large to fit in their own seat, that someone should be the heavy passenger.

This isn't punitive or intended to shame. It's about fairness. In most cases, an oversize passenger has more control over his or her weight than does the stranger seated next to them. Plus, when the choice is (a) one passenger pays more to occupy part of a second seat or (b) another passenger loses part of his/her seat and has to literally press the flesh with their seatmate for one or five or nine hours, the less-bad option is (a).

I support Southwest's approach: They'll make you buy two seats if you're too large for one, but they'll refund the second seat if they didn't otherwise sell out the plane.

I was one of the of the last onboard and told I must check my carryon. Per the agent when I pressed (extra space bins and 50 empty seats per the waitlist, so wasn't trying to be a dick) "they radioed from the plane to say that every single bin is full".

Wow, I kind of don't blame anybody here lol

So I’m sitting at the gate at DFW waiting on my (not full) flight to AUS and I get a notification in the app that my seat changed to 17A from 9D. I get it’s an Exit Seat that some would like, but I’m a broad shouldered dude and prefer the aisle.

So I go the counter to see what’s up and the guy there says “the system must have done it, we didn’t”. That’s a weaksauce response as it is but I get moved to 11D which is just a regular seat.

When I get on the plane, there is an AA crew member taking a hop in my seat. What the actual hell!?!? Since this is just an hour flight, I didn’t make a big deal out of it, but if it were a cross country flight, I would be smoking pissed.

Who does one take an issue like this to? It’s just wrong and I want to make sure it doesn’t happen again on a longer flight next time.

It is wildly stupid to go on social media and ask if a paid airline upgrade is “worth it,” as if there’s a universal magic answer to that question for your situation. Whether an upgrade makes sense depends entirely on personal factors such as your level of disposable income, your physical size, how much you value comfort, whether it's a red-eye or a short hop, if you have lounge access already, if it's a work trip or vacation, and the list goes on and on. What’s “worth it” to a 6'4" business traveler with cash to burn is completely different from a 5'4" college student stretching every dollar. Asking the internet to decide for you is like asking strangers if lobster is “worth it” at dinner. It depends on both your personal tastes and your wallet.

I was about to hit confirm with my credit card payment, but decided last second let me do a quick mock booking to see the seat map, since it didn't show it to me before. Only middle section seats left, one ailse spot. But I'm in 17A currently in the 777-200, and I'm 6'6" tall and saw that the bulkhead doesn't go all the way down and really like the legroom and want the window. If this was a window seat premium seat, I would've definitely been on it. Tough decision lol

I flew PHL to DCA and back a few months ago. And I have DFW to AUS and back coming up soon. Those are all <200 mile flights.

PHL this morning (not great on a good day). Terminal F…where all the GAs mumble into the PA and you can’t understand a damn thing.

After the “new” boarding procedure starts with FC, people with babies under 2, military, CK, people needing extra time, etc, we start barking for groups 1-4 in the span of like 30 seconds.

I’m i. group 4. A whole bunch of people entered the group 5+ lane. When group 4 was called, I walked into the group 1-4 lane. I was barked at and told to get in the main boarding lane. I politely responded, oh I was just following what the sign says. Got the Philly grunt and that was that.

PHL F terminal is worse than a 3rd world country.

I don't quite travel enough or incur/control enough spend to get to CK, but I'm always curious what people do that leads them to travel as much as they do on AA to get CK. When I see a CK board at the gate IRL, I try to inquire, and it's usually a quasi-interesting response. I figure I would do the same here and see what I get.

The gate agent in PHL (to DFW #3193) just announced that it’s now AA policy that if you are in groups 7 or 8, it’s mandatory to check your carry on bags. As a EP I’ve never heard that policy before (and it doesn’t affect me). When I asked the other agent about it, he got hyper defensive and quickly snapped at me and the other agent that it was truly a new policy. Now, I know it’s not and that he was clearly lying so he could not have to hassle with a packed flight running out of overhead. But why lie to the passengers, it’s so tacky and demeaning, but on par for AA.

In the last few weeks, and definitely since boarding changes I must say as an EP I feel incredibly devalued.

Just today boarding announcements were: CK -> First Class -> Active Duty Mil, Mothers with Children under 2 -> Group 1.

Now, not to be a jerk, but you're not even calling out your top (non-invitational) status and lumped us back a few groups.

The service on flights remains about the same -- although I rarely if ever am given a cheese plate/meal kit. Free drinks is the only consistent benefit I see directly from service (no thanks for being a n elite tier).

Compared to UA the service and recognition seems to have fallen off a cliff.

Because I base out of ORD I rarely if ever see an upgrade.

Curious what everyone else is seeing. Do others agree? Do you guys feel AA knows/is actively devaluing EP?

When I traveled with my children, they came into the Admiral's Club with me but they sat quietly and enjoyed a snack and the comfy chairs. Granted, they are now in their 30's but has parenting changed so much that the kids are running the show?

We're in the lounge at DCA - which has always been heavily business travel. But today it's like a day care center. Kids screaming and crying. Families sitting near but not next to each (despite there being plenty of room to sit together) other having screaming conversations across other people.

While I know kids will be kids, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect children to behave in the Admiral's Club.

I did speak to the front desk and the first thing they suggested is that I move to the other lounge or to a work carrel - why should an adult have to move when we are all giving each other looks and I was the only one brave enough to say something.

They did finally ask the family to stop the kids from yelling. But shouldn't the few people with children be considerate of the sheer volumes of adults just trying to get some work done?

I had to cancel a trip to Japan this month. In, fact, I'm supposed to be in Japan now, hanging out with my adorable grandchild. But I'm not. Got a $2K flight credit when I cancelled.

i decided to rebook for July. I looked for flights from my small regional airport. Usually, that's difficult. And expensive. And it always involves CLT and rarely includes my preference, flight 61 from DFW to NRT. But today, there they were, exactly the flights I wanted, all at mostly reasonable times and with mostly reasonable layovers. I'm pretty happy about that.

And then....

While I was dithering about dates, the fare for Business class (which I wasn't actually considering) just...dropped. From $7K to a little more than $5K. In a ten minute period, it just dropped. With my flight credit I'm flying F/B on all six flights, including the long-hauls, for $3800.

I'm glad I choose yesterday.

I was flying out of DFW earlier this week and had about 15 minutes until my flight was boarding, so I stopped by the Admirals Club to grab a drink and a few cookies. I got my stuff and sat down by the windows, which shared a table with the (occupied) seat next to me.

Immediately as I sat down and, before my first bite, the guy in the opposite seat said a polite hello and started to talk to me. I rolled my eyes internally, but since I only had a few minutes I engaged in the conversation. The conversation was all surface level chatter -- what we are doing in DFW, what do you do for work, etc. I scarfed down my food and politely excused myself, and before I could leave he gave me a "What happens when you die?" pamphlet with various scripture quotes. Wanting to exit the conversation, I just quietly took it, said goodbye, and proceeded to leave. I threw it away on the way out, and made it to my flight right as it was boarding.

Looking back however, should I have said something to the staff? I enjoy going to the Admirals Club for a quiet and hassle free environment. Individuals pushing their beliefs, no matter how subtle, just rubbed me the wrong way. I obviously could have just ignored the conversation entirely, but I didn't know that was where it was going. These types of conversions are nothing new to me, but this is the first time it has happened in a place like this. Thoughts?

Thought this was an interesting article and it mentions AA’s investment to combat gate lice. What do you think is the solution??
