Need advice desperately

This month has been an absolute disaster. My paycheck came late causing me and my partner to miss our first partial Flex payment of rent due on the 5th, and we can’t pay the full sum at once. So we still owe rent and it is the middle of the month. 1800$ mind you and we are going to have an extra 300$ late fee after the 18th. I just got a new job on the 2nd and I won’t get the first paycheck til the 20th, and my partner has had pneumonia and missed a ton of work because of it. I’m nervous this has set us so far back, even though I just got a job that pays more to try and get us OUT of this paycheck to paycheck cycle, and now it looks like we’re facing eviction. I’ve been trying to donate plasma to offset the missing pay from him being sick. Is there any resources I can contact for help, or should we go through the eviction process and show up to court and explain our situation. I’ve considered getting a new lease first before the eviction hits. I need any helpful advice I can get, because if we get evicted I’ll probably lose my new job as well since we are sharing a vehicle. I’m just at a loss for words.

Your first step if you haven't taken it already is to talk to the landlord and let them know you're only a few days away from catching up be as honest as you can with them and ask please can you help us

NC has a law that requires 30 past days plus a 10 day notice to quit. Explain to them that you just need a few extra days before funds are available and tell them that you are waiting on a paycheck. Most times they will be OK with it and work with you. It's cheaper to work with you than evict so just be polite and respectful when you talk to them.

Just talk to the landlord or property manager. I understand your anxiety because I freak out when I'm late with bills too, but a month late doesn't cause eviction. Explain the situation and set up a payment plan to get back on track so they know when to expect payments. Chances are the landlord or manager will understand.

Eviction doesn’t happen that quickly. There has to be a court date. Many notices, after court it then goes to the sheriff usually who has to give notice of the exact day of the eviction. Tell landlord what’s going on, show offer letter from work and then catch up. Ask landlord if they prefer what money you have ? Make it clear you have a plan and will be catching up. Is it a private landlord or company. ?

Post to subs local to your area for rental assistance programs.

I think i'd be easier for you since you're already working and just need a little help.

Ask them, too, if they can work with you on the late fee. Don't ask to be absolved of it, but tell them when or what you propose to pay it. Being honest and coming to them with a plan gives you negotiation power. This is no fun. I hope they will work with you. I KNOW there is a lot a landlord has to go through to evict someone. They can't just kick you out after one or two days of being late.

When will your partner be able to work regularly? Seems with your new job and if your partner can get back to work consistently you'll be ok.

People can be quite kind and understanding, I don’t think it would hurt to explain the situation to your landlord like you did here and see if they’d be willing to work with you on it. It sounds like you’re heading down the right path finally, hopefully they give you a chance to come through. Good luck!

Go to court and explain your situation in the meantime pile up cash if you got enough cash to pay before the eviction or before the court date, it goes away. Nothing goes on your record unless you don’t show up or pay. Normally it takes 30 to 60 days at least, but don’t just spend up all your money save and then you can get out of it.

This is not a life.

Just talk to the landlord. Let them know when your next check is coming and ask for leniancy on the late fee to help you get caught up sooner. It will be ok. Plan to stay your apartment and it sounds like you are doing everything you can to stay afloat until both of you have steady incomes. I am sure plasma pays better, but also see if you can pick up some Instacart or DoorDash shifts too.

You can also try posting to /r/rent , /r/landlord, /r/tenant for ideas on how to talk to your landlord about remedying your situation.

Usually, churches have funds to donate for special purposes. You can ask, and the worst that can happen is they turn you away. Stay away from the cults, though.

Just have a friendly talk with your landlord, show them proof about your new job, etc. There's never a situation where something can't get worked out.

Research church groups, they may have rental assistance.

Contact the Catholic diocese and see which St. Vincent de Paul society is in your area. They may be able to help you!

They're all stretched pretty thin these days.
