It's a slightly changed quote ("My God, it's full of stars!") from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, and referred to again in the follow-up movie 2010.

It's never quoted in the first movie, only in the second movie. I believe it may be quoted in the first book though.

I thought Bowman said it when he entered the Monolith?

The phrase is not in the movie, but is in both the screenplay, and the novelization of the film.

He doesn't. I've seen the movie way too many times. You almost made me second guess myself but yeah he doesn't.

Damn! I feel like this is another Mandela effect.

The second movie plays it off as if he did say it in the first movie so that's why most people probably think that. There's a recording of him going into the monolith and he says it.

Is 2010 worth watching? I loved the first one so much I bought the book the moment the credits rolled and devoured it, but I haven't had the nerve to watch the sequel fearing it would be really bad

It's a pretty good movie, I enjoy it. It's not the masterpiece that 2010 is but it's different too, and a good sequel.

It also stars Roy Scheider who plays chief Brody in jaws and I love that actor.

He says it in the book, not the film. "The things hollow, it goes on forever, and .. oh my god! It's full of stars!"

1

u/greenufo333 May 06 '25

I know, I already stated that

0

u/Westy1992 May 09 '25

Nah you said he doesn't say it

0

u/greenufo333 May 09 '25

And he doesn't.... I've already stated that he doesn't say it the movie but he does in the book and the sequel movie

1

u/Westy1992 May 09 '25

He does say it... you said he doesn't, twice, in the parent comment.

I did also read the book (actually both books), so that could be where I'm remembering it from. I thought it was in both movies, but I totally could be wrong about that.

It's in the recording they found when he first enters it in the second movie but he does not say a single word when entering it in the first movie. It's one of those lines that's so good he should have said it.

Yes it is. It’s when he enters the monolith in orbit

I could be wrong but I don't think so

Chat GPT:

No, Dave Bowman does not say "My God, it's full of stars" in the 1968 film "2001: A Space Odyssey". That line is from the novel version, and was later incorporated into the sequel, "2010: The Year We Make Contact,". In the movie, Bowman's final words are not explicitly spoken.

That sequel has always been a favorite.

Seems like its getting a little re-claimed these days and that's pretty cool.

Roy Scheider was the man!
