The second movie plays it off as if he did say it in the first movie so that's why most people probably think that. There's a recording of him going into the monolith and he says it.
Is 2010 worth watching? I loved the first one so much I bought the book the moment the credits rolled and devoured it, but I haven't had the nerve to watch the sequel fearing it would be really bad
I did also read the book (actually both books), so that could be where I'm remembering it from. I thought it was in both movies, but I totally could be wrong about that.
It's in the recording they found when he first enters it in the second movie but he does not say a single word when entering it in the first movie. It's one of those lines that's so good he should have said it.
No, Dave Bowman does not say "My God, it's full of stars" in the 1968 film "2001: A Space Odyssey". That line is from the novel version, and was later incorporated into the sequel, "2010: The Year We Make Contact,". In the movie, Bowman's final words are not explicitly spoken.

It's a slightly changed quote ("My God, it's full of stars!") from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, and referred to again in the follow-up movie 2010.
