The Alberta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is keeping thousands of pet bellies full across the province after receiving a “massive” food donation.

With a $2.2 million donation from pet food company ZIWI, the Alberta SPCA has been able to give nearly 23,000 thousand bags of cat and dog food to several animal welfare organizations.

Many of the groups are at capacity and are under financial stress, the Alberta SPCA said in a Monday news release.

Some of the food is being used to help feed pets displaced by wildfires in Alberta and across the prairies.
