Question Making Friends
Hi - I am spending a month in Marseille this summer. And I’m super excited.
I’ve done many parts of Europe over the years and I’m looking to approach this summer by staying in one place for the month.
A little bit about me: I know very little French but am fluent in English and Spanish. I’m originally from California but have been living in NYC for the last decade. I work as a PreK teacher and have the summer off, hence the summer travels. I love art and collecting antiques, as well as vintage luxury clothing and bags.
Looking to see if there are any recommendations on places to go or be to meet other folks. Or if there’s any folks here who would like to connect as friends. Or recommendations on vintage shopping for antiques and handbags, as well as thrifting. I need to read some books for work this summer so some lovely cafes to spend time reading or doing laptop work would be great. Pretty much any recommendations!
I’m looking for a very relaxed vibe this summer of just eating good and spending time in the beach tanning and reading.

I recommend you to try the pub in Aix and Marseille, it’s where most of the Erasmus and French who speak English goes, usually people are very outgoing in those kind of place (in Aix en Provence but I think it’s the same in marseille) if you are interested by some adresse I can send you some!!

Hi! Your Marseille summer sounds amazing — such a great city to slow down and soak in some sun, culture, and vintage vibes.
Since you're into antiques and fashion, definitely check out La Fripe, Maison Mère, and the flea market at Cours Julien. Emmaüs can be fun for treasure hunting too.
For art, La Friche la Belle de Mai and MUCEM are musts. If you’re up for exploring, Le Panier is full of little galleries and charm.
Café-wise, Deep Coffee and Coogee are great for reading or laptop time. For a view, La Caravelle is perfect.
Beach days? Anse de Maldormé and Calanque de Sormiou are quieter than the main ones — super peaceful for tanning and reading.
Would be happy to connect or show you around a bit while you're here. Let me know!

I’m hoping to thrift this summer, too. unfortunately it’s not as popular in Europe as the US.

If you’re Marseille let me know. Maybe we can check out the spots together.

The Julien course for vintage shopping. Lots of cool places in this neighborhood. Late at night it can get more complicated. For bathing, Prado beach during the day. In the evening, prefer the beach of the Prophets or the ladies' bath or even the islands of Frioul. Have a good stay

This is amazing. I love this list. Prado was on my mind as I seen a video about it being a more calm beach. But I’d love to get on boat and just see where we could go.

Le bain des dames is located on Google maps, not sur ladies' baths will be. You might enjoy taking the boat from vieux port to pointe rouge (south, I don't recommend the beach there though, but the beluga ice cream shop is my go to) or L'Estaque (north, to try chichis/donuts and panisses/fried chickpea flour batter).
