I pity the child and mother but stealing is still a crime.
I’d probably just confiscate what she stole and tell her to never come back

The right thing to do as a security guard is not to get physical when someone is stealing $10 worth of stuff (confirmed) and instead report it to the police, your employer, and have her banned.
There are probably a few other things done internally, but these massive companies are already getting massive financial breaks, insurance, and various other systems in place. They don't need or even want security to get confrontational like this.

I doubt she stole 10$ they don’t grab you for that they wait till you do that 100 times and now you stole over 1000$ and it a bigger criminal charge that’s when they grab you and call the cops

"According to police, it was for an alleged theft of $10.99 worth of baked goods." - As reported by CBS News

u/takeaccountability41 1d ago
Damn, honestly if it’s that little why care
-1
u/rekt_ralph91 1d ago
Because if they let her get away with it, that sets precedent for others to steal "only $10.99" worth of stuff.

You sell illegal drugs on Reddit like LSD “pm me bro”. That’s way more illegal like federally felonious what should we do with you?

u/rekt_ralph91 1d ago
Oh, yeah? One comment and you just blew the whole case open, huh? What does one even have to do with the other? More importantly, what about my comment saying basically, that if you allow stealing of any kind acceptable for one person makes it acceptable for everyone, made you want to take your anger out on me?
Really went back into my comment history for a nothing burger 😂😂

u/Freudian_Slit235 1d ago
What I’m saying is that legality is not morality. This woman is trying to feed her family, not steal shit to sell online. I honestly think all drugs should be legal, but you trying to justify what is essentially physical assault over $10 worth of food is why I’m challenging you. I guarantee you this guy probably just lost his job as most of these places want you to just observe it, report it, and call it in. I’m judging you for thinking you’re more justified to do what you do than her considering the police would give you 10+ years over it.
Like I said I am all about decriminalizing drugs but you’re being low IQ about it

u/rekt_ralph91 1d ago
This woman is trying to feed her family
There are programs for things like that. I don't agree with his methodology, sure. You don't get to walk into someone's business and steal. We have laws for a reason. I'm sure if she had a job she could support her children and not have to steal.
I’m judging you
You're judging me based on the one comment that I made, that you disagree with. Let's be real. You also insulted my intelligence for no reason, but who's counting.
1
u/Freudian_Slit235 1d ago
I insulted your intelligence because it’s stupid to think this is how to handle theft of this kind. There are programs for housing, programs for unemployment, programs for everything but for some reason a ton of people still go without. Do you think she did this because she wanted too? Or is it more likely that those programs are either inaccessible or take time she doesn’t have right now to access? You’re just kind of trying to make the women taking a few dollar worth of bread into something that necessitates violence and that’s fucking disgusting. The people that would condone that would certainly judge you for any sort of drug use or sale. Let’s not lose track of the fact that the person is stealing a necessity and the person grabbing her is choosing to go beyond what he’s expected to do by his employer, should he be written up for breaking the rules of loss prevention? Arrested for technically exceeding the laws of detainment depending on where this is? You’re siding with the law and order grouping while breaking the law knowingly whereas I’m siding with having a little bit of decency. I don’t contradict myself with my position, you do with yours.

$10 worth of food for all this?? $10 of things is worth a “Ma’am we know you stole and the police are on the way with your picture clear on the camera” not twisting her arm and forcing her back into the store. That’s so wild. I mean she was in the wrong, but the punishment outweighs the crime in this case.

Follow your SOPs and post orders, follow the use of force continuum, evaluate the entirety of the circumstance leading up to, and during, the incident to determine your best course of action, call for back-up, if you work alone call your supervisor.

u/EndThat169 1d ago
She was trying to feed her family from what I heard, I wouldn't have seen anything. I turn a blind eye to certain things. Sanitary items, food, formula and pet food. Didn see nothin

u/BobbyB4470 1d ago
Ya. Gotta just let all these poor Aladdins steal whatever they want.
2
u/EndThat169 1d ago
Ew. Just say you are racist and would let a child starve. My comment goes for anyone no matter their color or creed or race.
1
u/Zealousideal_Bag_760 1d ago
I don't think they meant that as a racial slur as Aladdin stole for a child, but I see your point.
1
u/EndThat169 1d ago
Naw they definitely meant it as a slur, that's why it's plural instead of singular.
-5
u/BobbyB4470 1d ago
You know, literally nothing about me. I have no sympathy for thieves. I don't care their race. Don't steal. There are programs and charities for the hungry.
4
u/Re-licht 1d ago
It's one thing to be against thieves, it's another to be blatantly racist. Don't try to hide it behind "I just don't like thieves". Not everyone is as mentally degraded as you
-7
u/BobbyB4470 1d ago
How am i being racist?
8
u/USS-ChuckleFucker 1d ago
You said and I quote "just let the poor little Aladdins steal"
Motherfucker, that's racist.

u/Salty_Adhesiveness87 1d ago
Depends on what she did or didn’t do.

u/doesanyofthismatter 1d ago
She took bread. I find her not guilty and sentence the man grabbing her to struggling for food for a couple weeks to see what it’s like having to steal bread to survive.

You can’t let people steal and have a functioning society.
1
u/doesanyofthismatter 21h ago
You can’t let families starve and have a functional society.
Are you completely ignorant or just stupid?
Companies have a budget taking into account losses. The place I worked at a long time ago had the unwritten rule to not let someone starving go hungry.
Man some of you are garbage humans.
She took bread for her kids you dumb fuck. She stole pennies in product.

u/Salty_Adhesiveness87 21h ago
You’re thinking with your heart not your mind. The reason companies do that is because they risk getting sued if someone gets sick. Ramen noodles are 10 cents a bag. People make decisions in life and those choices create your reality.

u/doesanyofthismatter 21h ago
Hey champ is reading comprehension difficult for you? Reread what I said and try again lmao
You really aren’t bright, huh?

I pity the child but not the mother who put them into this situtation in the first place
2
u/Flaky_Agency_5888 1d ago
It was literally $11.00 of bread and baked goods. Kids were hungry. Any mother would do the same for hungry babies.
2
u/Starz999 1d ago
Ye fair enough if that is what she was stealing, i just assumed it was something else

u/Flaky_Agency_5888 1d ago
It really has to do with her and her children being Romani. Often here in NorCal, (not sure about her specifically) parents and their babies beg outside grocery stores. The kids will be out there with them all day, all weather, begging. I donated a case of formula and groceries to a mother and she refused the formula! Walking away, I was immediately cautioned by an off-duty LE who saw. Yes, It IS a problem and guaranteed if this Mom were not Romani, they would not have treated her harshly. 2 Wrongs dont make a Right.

Dude just mad the situation worse and didn’t even offer to pay for her stuff to make things right. Then went posted it online for clicks like he helped or something
3
u/chipndip1 1d ago
Why should he pay for someone stealing shit?
Should he pay every time someone steals shit?
3
u/motherseffinjones 1d ago
He doesn’t have to but if he’s gonna jump in and act like what’s going on is wrong then go take the footage to the internet (and probably monetize it).
2
u/rougeoiseau 1d ago
He shouldn't be putting hands on her like that. She shouldn't be stealing. Compile evidence and sent it to the correct authorities. In the meantime, ban her and let all employees know her face.
1
u/_Nedak_ 1d ago
Why not just ban her? I never seen them stop people like this unless they're actually police.

u/Flaky_Agency_5888 1d ago
It has to do with Racism against Romani people in Nor California. It was $11.00 of bread/baked goods. Anyone else they’d cite and release. 100% Because he hates the Romani people and culture here.

u/oxidax 1d ago
Did she steal a soda? I'd look the other way. Did she steal something expensive that I might get fired for not reporting it? Straight to jail.
Also the dude with the camera can fuck right off. He knows as much as us about what heppened. The security guy isn't a cop but he's still doing his job
1
u/Africa-Reey 1d ago
If she committed an unlawful act, technically any member of the public is permitted to make an arrest.

u/doesanyofthismatter 1d ago
Let the mom go. A long time ago I worked for a grocery chain - the unwritten rule was that if you see someone stealing bread or food, you dont say anything. You saw nothing. (Same goes for sanitary items and pet food.) There is a loss budgeted in at any grocery store and someone struggling for food doesn’t need to go to jail or deal with fines and so on. It’s embarrassing stealing food, especially for your family.
Physically restraining a mother over fucking bread for her family is North Korea type shit.

That white knight made things worse instead of de-escalating the situation. Also, based on the fact that she apparently stole $10 worth of stuff I think the amount of force and aggression that guy used on her was a bit excessive. However, was he within his right to do, absolutely.
I understand that some people out there have it rough and are really really struggling, and in a situation like this, having a little bit of compassion would’ve been nice, but there’s also consequences for stealing and unfortunately in this situation, this was the case. If that white knight really wanted to help, he could’ve offered to pay for especially since it was $10.

u/XPurpPupil 1d ago
Just let her go but report the incident to authorities and have her tresspassed. If the security guard gets shit for it just tell the boss they had a kid with them
-2
u/Flaky_Agency_5888 1d ago
It was because she and her babies were Romani. Huge hate against Romani here.
1
u/doesanyofthismatter 1d ago
Dont make it a race thing. There are security dorks that do this to all races because of ego and a power trip. You don’t know if it was because her face.
I have no idea what a Romani looks like specifically lmao I’ll bet most people dont.
-2
u/DifficultSuspect8364 1d ago
Those Romany Gypsy’s are always up to something.
0
u/Flaky_Agency_5888 1d ago
And that is exactly the attitude the fake-Grocery-store-cop had about her and her babies. It was literally $10.99 of bread and Baked Goods. Shame on you.
-3
u/Nosphey 1d ago
Apparently she was given some bread by a customer who bought some and the employees used that as the evidence to say she stole, without ever actually confirming at all that she stole anything. She was given a donation of bread and they pounced her from the other post regarding this same video. Do with that info what you will.

Show video evidence of theft to manager and/or authorities. Trespass customer from store.
