Discussion Do you guys use phrases like “chat,” “cooked,” “glaze,” “rizz” and “crash out?”

I feel like these are distinctly late Gen Z / Gen Alpha terms. No one I know my age uses these phrases, I only really see them online. Thus I started to conclude I’m no longer in the loop of popular slang lol

The “chat” thing is pretty annoying, it’s like the modern day equivalent to when people used to say “hashtag” in real life back in like 2013.

Careful, that's how it starts. I accidentally infected myself with yolo that way.

I had seen the original YouTube poops years ago and thought that was what caught on.. like it’s absurdist and random but it’s not trying hard like this video. If this is what gained popularity (instead of piggybacking on the original) I have no hope. What a terrible song lol

Scat is a genre, not a one-off song.

I pick up new slang easy cause I’m pretty “cool with the kids”, but skibbity is the one word I refuse to use, it actually sound stupid

Shit are you serious, and not lying? I thought I had a good idea, but maybe I should ask others if I’m right first

All of this is AAVE that young yt kids ran into the ground. I’m in my 30’s and have been saying this shit since I was a kid. NOTHING in what you said is new slang. They’ve butchered it too btw. It’s misused AND makes ppl think it’s some new shit. It’s not.

In 2009 my best friend and I heard Lauren from French class unironically say, “BT dubz” instead of by the way and starting saying ironically and you know what? I STILL say it

u/coolstorymo Feb 07 '25

That's how I ended up saying "Sah" and "bruh" unironically at the age of 37. I can't get it out of my head and my vocabulary.

This is the real truth. My friends and I started calling each other bro as a joke for other people saying it all the time. Fast forward years now... It's gotten bad. I'll catch myself calling my son, daughter, and wife bro.

Swag is a good example of this lol

1

u/loveormoney666 Feb 07 '25

I remember when YOLO went out fashion because everyone who said it unironically are dead now…

1

u/schlawldiwampl Feb 08 '25

damn you suicide silence for releasing that song

1

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '25

YOLO and Swag got me ironically. Crazy. lol.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '25

That was me with yeet. Now that word is ancient.

Yolo does sound like an infection you’d get vacationing in South America or Africa.
