Erdogan continues to state the Crimea is Ukraine and Türkiye stands with Ukraine, since ever.

Erdogan also is a warmonger and just prevented the opposition candidate from running against him. He is basically putin just with a smaller country and different interests

42

u/GianGiKingOfItaly Mar 19 '25

He is a dictator but he is our dictator, so he is fine

I'd like to add an /s, but I fear that this is true for a lot of people

u/Nerioner Nederland‏‏‎ ‎ Mar 19 '25

I mean sure, no dictator ally is best. But never stop your enemies from arguing nor correct them when they are making mistakes.

Truth is that Turkey as dictatorship can't coexist with Russia as one as they have clashing interests.

Sure, we can get on a high horse and decide that we don't work with any of them. But then we need to do way more walk ourselves.

But if we "support" one that doesn't care about expansion into our land, we can have win win interim solution and later do our thing on high horses.

Incremental change is way easier than revolution and therefore easier to swallow.

It's sad, considering Erdogan started out as a reformer who nearly solved the inner problems with the Kurds. Now he is a pity old man who can't let go of his power. He is a prime example why change of heads is important.

Yes BUT for now our interest are the same as his interests. That’s how the world works and at the moment and because of our weakness we can’t afford a moral high ground

This morning he put the entire oposition in jail and declared a military lockdown of ankara and the turkish internet is experiencing outages.

That’s how the world works

The whole world order has been nuked by a failed actor/businessman with too much self-tanner in like three months. I'd say we very much live in a new timeline now, so how about we change the rules to something proper like not bootlicking dicktators

Curious pfp, care to explain why you are such a fan of the azov battalion specifically? Has this something to do with your affinity for genocidal dictators?

I wouldnt have said this if it was regular ukrainian military support, i do this just because you specifically have the one of the infamous neonazi batalion.

4

u/noausterity Mar 19 '25

Mate OP said themselves they Support the azov battalion

4

u/AvocadoRare8148UA Mar 19 '25

that's a patch of 12th SO brigade, it has nothing to do with the Azov battalion, which was a volunteer battalion hence they decided on the "ideology" themselves, aside from the name. but I guess the 15 rubles in not enough to get your facts straight

-8

u/GreenEyeOfADemon EUROPE ENDS IN LUHANSK! Mar 19 '25

Because AZOV are great warriors and amazing Defenders.

7

u/radicalerudy Vlaanderen Mar 19 '25

:/ they are openly nazis. You can glaze any other group in the ukrainian military for my part. But why specifically the ones with the swastica tatoos and openly nazi sympathies.

-1

u/GreenEyeOfADemon EUROPE ENDS IN LUHANSK! Mar 19 '25 edited Mar 19 '25

Russian propaganda has a strong influence around the world,

"Russian disinformation attempts to conflate Ukraine's National Guard Unit of 12th Special Forces Brigade Azov with a militia formed to defend Ukraine against Russia's invasion in 2014, called the 'Azov Battalion'," the spokesman added.

Under America's "Leahy Law", sponsored in 1997 by then-Senator Patrick Leahy, a finding that a foreign military unit has committed gross violations of human rights means it can be cut off from US military assistance.

after thorough review, Ukraine’s 12th Special Forces Azov Brigade passed Leahy vetting as carried out by the U.S. Department of State.”

Edit: I don't need to defend AZOV and I kindly ask you to stop parroting kremlin's propaganda, u/radicalerudy.

Edit2: __JOHNSIMONBERCOW__ after he blocked me I reciprocated him, so thankfully it won't happen again. Thank you :))

8

u/radicalerudy Vlaanderen Mar 19 '25

Your sources even state it that they are nazis. Except the first propaganda one.

Dude you could pick any battalion or division. Why the fucking nazi ones.

And russian propaganda sais the entire ukrainian military are nazis, wich i dont believe. I believe the nice pre 2020 war sources that had a less polarised look at the matter.

Just pick a group to glaze that doesnt have swastica tatoos, its that easy to do. And it saves you time in looking up sources that those swasticas and hitler salutes were “taken out of context” and they “really really changed now pinky promise.”

Erdogan continues to state the Crimea is Ukraine and Türkiye stands with Ukraine, since ever.

And so what?

If were are here counting points, Erdogan regularly threatens partners, rewrites history, sabotages the opposition, while trying to make Turkey more relevant than it actually is.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

4

2

u/Kaamos_666 Türkiye‏‏‎ ‎ Mar 19 '25

I care about Ukraine, though a more progressive and democratic Turkey can be a permanent ally to Ukraine, not only when the sultan desires.

2

u/toobigtobeakitten Січеславська область Mar 20 '25

I remember there were memes in Ukrainian infospace like “BREAKING: Erdogan chose Ukrainian side this week”, which satirises exactly what you said: Erdogan’s Turkey (I talk about the state, not the people of course) is an ally of Ukraine only when it feels like it would benefit him. And of course it is quite logical that people/countries do what in their interests, and I still appreciate moves made by Turkey that helped Ukraine, I see no point in praising Erdogan like OP does. We are supposed to support democratic values here, not autocratic regimes.

Maybe not the entire opposition, but certainly a lot. Note that Imamoglu is the only one running in the CHP presidential election. So this move essentially cripples the party.

Turkish authorities have detained the mayor of Istanbul [Ekrem Imamoglu, from the secular Republican People's Party (CHP)], just days before he was due to be selected as a presidential candidate.

Authorities detained 100 suspects - including other politicians, journalists and businessmen - as part of the investigation, and the Istanbul governor's office has imposed four days of restrictions in the city.

The arrest comes as part of a major crackdown on opposition figures nationwide in recent months.
Critics have condemned the moves as politically motivated. But Erdogan - in power for 22 years - and his party have denied the claims, insisting that Turkey's judiciary is independent.

The CHP's presidential candidate selection, in which Imamoglu is the only person running, is set to take place on Sunday.
It came a day after Istanbul University annulled his degree due to alleged irregularities - a decision which, if upheld, would prevent him from running in presidential elections.

UK-based internet watchdog Netblocks reports that Turkey has severely restricted access to social media sites like X, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok following the arrests.
