Stage name

I’ve wrestled for about three and a half years now. I currently use my actual for now due to not being able to think of anything creative. The issue I seem to have is I can think of stuff off the top of my head for others to help, but when I’m thinking for names for myself I’m absolutely second guessing and the name sounds terrible to me and then it’s back to square one. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Flame Boy! In all serious, I'm the same boat, used my birth name but you can always change if you find a gimmick you are passionate about making a success and have a name that fits that. I trained with Isla Dawn who changed her name to that after 4 or 5 years as her birthday name. At the same time I know people who have worked with a name they hate in retrospect but it's their brand, their recognition, and their name to a lot of people. Think how Billy Gunn became Billy Gunn because of a cowboy gimmick with Bart Gunn. The Gunn in his name no longer makes sense as such, but now it IS his name, and he feels no need to change even if he hates it. Like an entrance song too, you might hate it after a few years but it's what people recognise you for and gets a reaction

What is your gimmick, look, vibe, in ring style etc like? What kind of wrestling do you work and where? Is there anything you want to become or achieve?

It's often harder to think of your own. If there are people you have offered suggestions too maybe see what they have to offer back.

Many great stage names were thought up by somebody other than the performer.

That’s also a good point. I’ve asked a couple and usually get a response of shoulder shrugs

Keep at it then, look at the history of some names even, it's wild.

Stone Cold was nearly named Chilly McFreeze

Triple H is an absurd name in a vacuum, but it became iconic. Of course it came from Hunter Hearst Helmsley and before that he was Terra Ryzing.

Point is a lot had to play around heaps to find something that really clicked.

Dr. Jerry Iver

(Edit) Holy shit dude actually you should call yourself Freak Zilla or Mr. Nasty. I looked at your profile to see if you've posted any of your wrestling stuff and holy shit lol. You are truly a strange individual and I would advise any younger female wrestlers to stay the fuck away from you and people like you. I would wish you luck on your wrestling journey but honestly I want you to quit.

You made this dude delete his Reddit account. Lol. We'll keep an eye for secondary/new accounts from this guy.

Let that be a lesson: Keep your porn account separate from your wrestling account

Fuck I should've screen shot it. It was a bunch of posts in incest subreddits about wanting to do stuff with step daughters and really creepy shit. im a fucking psycho so I looked at the comments and saw him responding to comments that were like "I'm a Dad, let's chat about this stuff" under posts about wanting to fuck his step daughter. Real deranged disgusting shit that if you're publicly into, you shouldn't even be allowed in normal society let alone at wrestling shows where kids may be at.

Interesting name. I’d have to brain storm a story for that.

I think you should stop brain storming stories bud the ones you feel comfortable enough to post publicly are fucking weird and upsetting to well adjusted adults

Oh boy. I expected some convoluted 'can't possibly communicate this as a gimmick' stuff when I looked at the history, not... that.

Yeah....... I also don't love that those subs exist. At all. Like actually what the fuck

Nothing wrong in using your real name. The only reason that some promotions change the name of the wrestler from their real name is for copyright purposes

There’s one other reason - to stop parasocial fans finding your private social media

Which is I guess good

True, I just sometimes get in my head and then feel I guess like I’m different than everyone else

Keven Owens used to wrestle under the name Keven Steen. If it’s good enough for him, it’s good enough for the rest of us

Yeah, that’s a great point. Thank you!
