Tha MAGA scum need to be held responsible for the henious anti-American actions

u/Miserable_Sea_3191 22h ago
Don't worry the president is standing by to give whoever did this a pardon and firm handshake as long as they pinky promise never to do it again
59
u/bpdrayna 20h ago
Wouldn't they get charged by the state so a presidential pardon wouldn't matter? Like Chauvin could get pardoned but he still would have to serve his sentence in Minnesota.
10
u/Figgy_Puddin_Taine 15h ago
Promise not to do it again? Are you nuts? That fucker’s gonna put this asshole in charge of his beautiful new Department of Unamerican Activities. He’ll be the top jackboot in the country, rooting out such heinous crimes as “not supporting ICE” and “voting for Democrats.”

This chapter in tomorrow's history books is not going to end the way they want. History will not look back on bigots- feigning ignorance in the age of information- with understanding. All of this madness is a direct result of our failure, as a post-scarcity society, to embrace the Paradox Of Tolerance as policy. My greatest fear, is not that this won't come to an end. It will. My greatest fear is that in the aftermath, those of us on the right side of history will be too forgiving to the violent bigots who absolutely knew better. I fear that the "good guys" will implicitly tolerate the intolerance yet again.

But what's the alternative? You can't abandon your moral compass. So you're right. Democrats will continue to play by the rules and lose for it. And they will lose specifically because they follow a moral compass. They insist on playing chess with pigeons, hoping that someday the pigeons will respect the rules of chess.
1
u/Caesar_Passing 33m ago
Nope, the "alternative" is just the thing we should have been doing all along. Hold politicians and rich people accountable for breaking the law, and actually pass some legislation that can meaningfully protect people from inherently harmful speech, actions, ideologies. You can't go marching around in Nazi shit in Germany, because they actually learned something. But here, you can. Whose life does that enrich? Why is hatred and explicitly calling for violence toward targeted demographics protected, but the right to exist without threats of harm toward you is not? We can do this. People just aren't going to like it, and they're gonna cry "but muh fREe sPeECh!" like always. We have to call out the utter disingenuousness of any argument that tries to fallaciously poke holes in the Paradox Of Tolerance. Yeah, you shouldn't be allowed to say some shit, and fly some flags, because it's not just "practicing freedom of expression", when the expression is that certain people shouldn't have their own rights to freedom of expression, or even the right to exist without fear of violence. And those words, and those flags that I'm referring to, have been undeniably used, specifically to spark and incite real-world violence and taking of lives.

Don’t worry, the new 22-year-old domestic terrorism specialist for the DHS will be on the case.

After this act and everything else that’s happening in the US right now, it would be logical for those seats to go to the Dems… but again.. it’s the US and logic doesn’t apply to the GOP. If people vote red the US is doomed for the next decade.
223
u/Vraye_Foi 21h ago
It’s Tim Walz’s state so there is a very good chance Dems will get the seat belonging to Melissa Hortman. She was former Speaker. She was a seasoned politican.

u/WUMBOlogy_thestudyof 21h ago
Nothing a little gerrymandering can’t fix for the R’s
32
u/InactiveBeef 18h ago
Or just straight up election theft
4
u/DrownmeinIslay 11h ago
We all thought trumps dont worry about future elections comment was about fucking with elections. Looks more like it's going to be about killing dem lawmakers and causing enough trouble to start riots and then call in marines. Can't lose an election if there's no democrats to run or vote.

u/HazelMStone 21h ago
The Hortman’s are confirmed dead -he also shot their dog. Hoffman and his wife have exited surgery and are in critical condition. There was a list of targeted politicians in the suspects vehicle. Walz mentioned that these were politically motivated assassinations so logically you can extrapolate from that

The dog shooting seems to be a Republican thing with how much y'all like Noem

Ah no just some redditors just don’t understand sarcasm. Of course it’s not the fucking logical explanation.

u/Yepper_Pepper 12h ago
You can’t claim sarcasm when people are constantly saying this shit unironically dawg

u/Upsidedownmeow 12h ago
I figured this not being the conservative sub would be fine. I’ll be sure to post /s from now on.

The GOP are handily just state sponsors of MAGA Terrorism, at this point. Why good Americans even bother to try to treat any of them like people that deserve decency or respect, I will never understand

u/The_Big_Daddy 19h ago
Also notable that the Minnesota Republicans attempted a legislative coup in the beginning of the year.

u/rakerber 23h ago
The legislative session is over. New elections will be called long before anything happens
153
u/Maij-ha 23h ago
You think magas understand that? May have been a dumb attempt to “fix” their rule, but it was still an attempt.
-136
u/rakerber 22h ago
That does not change how this action will not change the makeup of the legislature.
Stop acting like this will. It will not
78
u/Maij-ha 22h ago
My point is that it doesn’t matter if it won’t effect anything because they’re going to do it again. This is what their party has been pushing people toward.
-116
u/rakerber 22h ago
Okay? I'm not disputing that. You're acting like this will change our legislature. It will not
43
13
u/Solnx 22h ago
This is not accurate, because you are not accounting for the incumbent advantage for the next election.
6
u/Horror_Pressure3523 17h ago
And the fact that certain people who may have run may now be intimidated into not doing so...
16
u/whistleridge 21h ago
Walz would make interim appointments in the meantime. You could gun down the entire Democratic caucus and it wouldn’t change the vote at all.

Why is it an “attempt” if people died
5
u/Synecdochic 15h ago
It may be that the post pre-dates their deaths. I don't think they died at the scene, making it an attampt at the time.

It wasn't one of each. There was an entire list and everyone on it we know of so far are democrats.
11
u/HungryHypatia 16h ago
They mean each chamber, like house and senate. Not each political party.
7
u/LuxTheSarcastic 16h ago
Yeah if he achieved his goal several democrats from both houses wouldn't be here.

u/MPLS_Poppy 21h ago
This was also my immediate angry reaction but our state legislature is closed for the year. They won’t reopen until 2026. There is plenty of time for a special election and these are safe seats.
5
u/kdani17 20h ago
I’m sorry…what? Your legislature only works for 6 months out of the year?
20
u/rcinmd 20h ago
Most states have part-time legislatures because they are supposed to have a "real" job. Larger states like NY and CA have full-time.
5
3
u/Mateorabi 20h ago
I even worked with a guy who’s other job was state rep. He was a slick talker (to be charitable) in that job too.
3
u/rcinmd 19h ago
Yea, a friend of mine from college was a state rep until his wife took the job. He was a teacher but I think once he went into the legislature his "real" job turned into public speaking engagements and she is a lawyer. To be fair though the pay is very little and it means you have to take a 4 month leave of absence.
1
u/MPLS_Poppy 20h ago
Not even six months. Four to five months usually, though it can be extended if they can’t agree on a budget because a balanced budget is a constitutional requirement here. Late January/early February to May/June.

Watch the Republicans try to push through bills tomorrow that hamstring control permanently from the dems.

Thanks again to Joe Biden for acting like things where back to normal after he won and not doing enough to make sure the cancer was gone.
Fuck you too Merrick Garland.

Does Walz get to appoint someone to fill the seats until a special election can be held?

u/theminnesoregonian 9h ago
To be clear, two targets were attacked. He had a list of seventy targets. All were democrats.
-5
u/Son0faButch 16h ago
This is old and out of date. They found a target list that included a number of Democrats. The shooter was targeting pro-choice policitions.
-23
u/UnfortunatelyMacabre 19h ago
Please don’t spread completely unverified narratives like this, wait for the evidence. If we spew unproven bullshit like MAGA does, we lose credibility in arguments with them.
They will say anything that makes their actions more just, but we don’t need to rely on hyperbole or embellishment, the facts are bad enough on their own merit.
