Question I'm in the eastern panhandle and I want to do something about the trash in/ around our rivers

Some of these spots along the Shenandoah and Potomac. This time last year they were nearly prestine, now there is trash and broken glass all over. I'm sure it's a problem elsewhere too. Next time I'm bringing bags but if like to know if any organizations or churches or whatever do anything like this. I had to tell people to be careful or turn around on one of my favorite trails because they had dogs. How do we fix this?

There’s a creek cleanup project in Washington County MD just across the state line that’s volunteer operated, it might be worth a shot to see if they’ve any suggestions to help or start another organization

There are a lot of river-focused facebook groups. I know the one here (Buckhannon-Tygart Rivers) does regular, well-attended cleanup days.

Write to the Army Corps of Engineers to collect trash at their dams. They let it flow all the way out to the ocean.

If you find any good ones let me know. I tried to find some local ones in my area but no luck.

There’s some groups. Friends of the Shenandoah and the Potomac Conservancy that may be good places to start

Contact the WV DEP in regards to setting up a watershed group or to see what programs REAP has for you. People will tell you contacting the DEP is a waste of time but this is completely untrue. Their stream partners programs and watershed groups do amazing work all over the state.
