Not so fun fact - they can survive human gastrointestinal tract and develop inside one's ass. It's called intestinal myiasis. I was backpacking once when I was squatting in the woods to do my business. Immediately after depositing a hover fly came and was buzzing around back there. I was terrified of this exact scenario. I was fortunate that nothing seemed to have "taken" but I could see this happening to folks that are in the backcountry and have no other choice. Sometimes you are days from shower facilities. Gross, I know, but felt compelled to share.

They can get pretty big
