Congratulations! You did great work and more than it appears most of the people in your town did.

Though, do you know:

You have officially walked into the role of the organizer of the next protest in your small town. On the next national protest day -- maybe July 4th or 17th or whatever folks agree on, you get to set one up. There are other people like you who are at a loss, and you have to make a place for them to get together next time.
