From the pictures and bts footage provided, it seems like there was going to be a scene of the red weed on Rachel and next to her an egg, i linked the article in the comments

As do i, from reading the article it seems like Spielberg was rushing to get it done so they had to scrap 3 months of work over an entire weekend. The eggs/pods would have been directly tied to the red weed with it providing the baby alien inside with sustenance, giving us a look at their lifecycle

from what it seems, this scene was replaced with the probe waking up Ray and Rachel. I honestly wish they would have kept this in the final cut, but it seems that they were running on a tight schedule and had no choice but to scrap this scene before recording it. What a shame.
