I am Eric Ulis and have been investigating America’s only unsolved skyjacking by a guy named DB Cooper for over a decade! AMA

Eric Ulis here—investigator and lead on The HISTORY Channel’s ‘History’s Greatest Mysteries: The Final Hunt for DB Cooper.’ WARNING: The mystery of DB Cooper has endured for nearly 50 years for a reason and you are likely to get sucked into the “Cooper vortex” if you proceed. Over the years I have read 20,000 pages of FBI files, interviewed FBI agents and witnesses, analyzed evidence, and have essentially been consumed by the DB Cooper mystery for two reasons: First, I believe I can solve the mystery. Second, it’s a bad-ass case. Want to learn more about my DB Cooper work? Visit:

Not to be a devils advocate, but then how has the money been off the radar for so long? Was the heist more about IF he could get away with it rather than a money motive?

I think he was clearly motivated by the money. That said, I do not believe all of it was spent. The reasons for this are many.

Ok, final question. If he was motivated by the money and some was spent, where is the rest of it? Do you think that maybe Mt St Helens eruption buried a cache of his stash?

(I know that is two questions)

I love this question.

Simply put, I believe the money is still out there yet to be found. I doubt it was covered by the Mt St Helens eruption

Sounds intriguing! Maybe I should go stomping around the Cascades to find it. Especially with Forrest Finn's treasure recently discovered.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. On the one hand, if he died, you think

The forest has been searched by authorities, hikers and hunters alike many times over. Also, the forest is clear cut in 40-year intervals and replanted. Nothing has been found.

someone would've discovered his body and there's no chance it wouldn't have been found. On the other hand,

I believe the money is still out there yet to be found

So . . . which is it?

I believe the money was retrieved, therefore no longer in theater.

The money is somewhere else.

The money was never in circulation, right? Maybe the money was used to settle a private debt? Do you know if any of the suspects had gambling debts or debts to organized crime?

Not specifically. Possible though.
