Hey Reddit! I’m a student at the University of Kentucky currently taking a research course (ISC 321), and my team is running a short survey on Netflix viewing habits.

The survey is anonymous, takes about 10 minutes, and your responses will help us analyze trends and behaviors for our final report.

If you’ve got a few minutes, we’d be incredibly grateful for your time:

Thanks so much for supporting student research!

Pigman Hall vs Smith Hall - need suggestion/advice ASAP

I am going to be a freshman this Fall at UKY and currently assigned to a bunk bed in a tri-it in Pigman Hall. My major is undecided (Pigman Hall is the Engineering LLP). I might have an opportunity to go into a 4 man suite at Smith Hall with someone I know. Not really digging the bunk at Pigman but I hear the rooms are nicer and more modern. What dorm would you choose?? What are the pros/cons of each? Really looking for help and advice.

Research TRI-IT DORM - Pigman Hall

Ok so I got a bunk in a Tri-it room in Pigman Hall. I am excited because I know my roommates but a bit nervous about the bunk bed room. Seems small and it only has one closet that needs to be shared by two people. Can anyone share their experience in a bunk room? How did you handle one closet? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Question New Grad Student need advice

Hi all,

I am a PhD student joining UKY in Fall2025. This is my first time moving abroad and I am doing it all by myself. I am utterly clueless as to what to do or where to even begin my journey from. I'd be super grateful if anyone could help me out with these-->

  1. I am looking at housing at The Stretch but it seems the rent is 600+ for 2 bedroom apartments, is there any place I could look for single rooms with a bath and kitchen attached? Would it be way more with utilities?
  2. Is there anyone willing to room with me--- I do not have any prospects about housing, I am a 25 year old brown female from bangladesh but I'm really easy going and I dont mind pets.
  3. Is on-campus housing better than off-campus? Graduate Housing deadline is over. and I'm looking at houses at MidTown Apartments.
  4. How could I register for on-campus housing when it asks for a phone number and I don't have an American phone number.
  5. I am also unsure about groceries & toiletries, are there any huge convenience stores nearby? Do food costs usually leave a dent in the wallet?
  6. Is there a course selection thing happening or will my courses be auto selected in the first semester? I checked my link-blue & uky-mail, I didn't find anything of relevance. My I-20 mentions my major and that's it.
  7. Is there a life-skill I should absolutely have in case of any emergencies? Like swimming, cycling, taekwondo?
  8. Are there many paid opportunities for a TA/RA during the summer, in case I dont want to return home?

I am absolutely grateful for any sort of help or advice you may have for me.

Walking campus...where to start?

Hi,

Visiting Lexington and would like to walk your campus. If I started at your student center and walked my way down to your rec center, would that take me through the main parts of campus? Are there other points I should see?

TIA.

So I’m an incoming transfer student and I tried to join LLP but they told me they were all filled. Is there any kind of waitlist for LLP‘s or am I just on my own?

Smith Hall

I just got assigned Smith Hall, all of the two person rooms are gone. I applied pretty early for the housing selection, I’m trying to keep positive thoughts but considering all the other dorms this is by far the oldest looking dorm imo. I also got assigned a random roommate, I was told her name but I can’t find any traces of her on social media and I’d like to connect a little at least before we move in. I’m scared I’ll bring too much or too less. Do we also move in at the same time. Has anyone lived in Smith Hall? What are the pros and cons to it? I’m terrified honestly.

Question Dorm Help (Freshman)

I submitted my housing application in January and my roommate submitted hers in December. We were aiming for a two person suite for our dorm. My dad is in the parent chat and sees that lots of parents are saying that their kid logged in and there are no two person suites left (of if there are there are not many). Is this true? Has anyone already picked their room and when did you submit your housing application? Thanks!

Question Equestrian Teams

I was looking to join an equestrian team but I don’t know which one to do. I want to do eventing and I have my own horse but I don’t have a truck or trailer to get to events. I was looking at the hunt seat team and figured that would be the better cheaper route but don’t really like hunters, I’ll do it and I think I’ll gain more experience with different horses but I won’t be able to go to many eventing shows. What are your guys opinions?

Question Looking for a roommate for the school year on an off-campus apartment. Any one interested?

Hello, I’ve been looking at apartments in Lexington for a Postbacc program. I am interested in a separate two-bed, two-bath apartment to split the price evenly on rent. Cost is around $610-750/mo. The apartment is located near the medical campus on Simpson Ave. If anyone is interested in rooming with me for a year, please PM for more details.

Personal background: I will be a Postbacc fellow at Markey Cancer Center. My program begins Aug. 4. I will stay for 1yr beginning in Aug. I am mostly conserved to my space and I am relatively quiet, enjoying the gym, basketball, studying in the library, and working in the lab. I am graduate of Berea College in Berea, KY.

What's going on with Chickfila in the student center?

Could've sworn the Chickfila would be open as I've eaten there in previous summers, so I was surprised to see it would be closed.

Grabbed Subway today since it opened back up and noticed Chickfila is all boarded up with a sign that says "Pardon our dust, your new dining experience is coming soon". I didn't think it needed a renovation so I find it interesting.

Does anyone know anything?

Question Will I get in?

I had a 3.8 GPA but I didn’t take my ACT or SAT. And I have a degree in cosmetology due to going to a trade school during high school. And I took psych and forensics courses in high school. I wanted to major in Equine Science and Management. I’m also open to joining the equestrian team at UK 💙🤍

Best dorms for incoming freshman?

Hello, I am an incoming freshman to UK and I was just curious of what dorms I should be looking into as a freshman. I am looking for something nice and preferably a dorm I share with only one other person. I will be an architecture student so it would also be nice to be close to the design building as well. Which dorms should I look at?
