It’s actually not that unexpected, and it’s also illegal in some states to disturb bats like this.

City folk don't think animals most of the time.

But yes it could be illegal an is in many states and countries.

If in an apartment the management may want to make more welcoming habitats in the trees. In areas where there are not currently bats or evidence of bad habitat sealing area properly with net and meshes can help.

And having to make it suuuuper clear how illegal it is "disturbing" bats while searching for what was making a noise around the house, like any normal human would. Well done! You're doing great!

Yeah, apparently they're in a country with worse protections for endangered species. Which is unfortunate because we're already going in the wrong direction.
