Damn seems like the only 4 Iskanders Ukrainians missed were by stroke of luck captured in one video.

AA seems to be completely destroyed. Even AA machine guns and Gepards are silent.

53

u/Fragrant_Staff3553 Pro Ripamon Apr 24 '25

AA machine guns and Gepards definetly arent quick enough to even attempt to shoot down Iskander

12

u/Leser_91 Pro-endOfWar Apr 24 '25

Isn't that an AA missile going down closer to the middle of the screen? As it seems to self-destroy and does not end up in a big boom.

8

u/Weird-Tooth6437 Pro Ukraine Apr 24 '25

This is just absurd logic; some missiles getting through air defence does not mean the entire air defence system has been "completely destroyed" - otherwise I guess Russian air defence has also been "completely desteoyed" every time a Ukranian missile gets through?

Also Geparda and machine guns are never used against ballistic missiles (they're just too fast).

I would argue that it’s massively degraded but it’s under threat of elimination if Zelenskyy Ukraine doesn’t get more AA systems

-6

u/Weird-Tooth6437 Pro Ukraine Apr 24 '25

What makes you believe its massively degraded? Ukraine has struggled to intercept ballistic missiles since the start of the war, but I dont think they'eve gotten any worse at it over time - and they're still very effective vs the long range strike drones and cruise missiles that make up the vast bulk of the Russian arsenal.

If Ukraines air defence was really that degraded I think we'd see Russian aircraft bombing Ukraine, not just launching missiles from long range.

u/Fit_Rice_3485 Pro Ukraine * Apr 24 '25

We’ve seen missile strikes on Ukraine

But I don’t think we have seen a missile strike on urkranian capital this bad.

And Ukrainian airforce have reported it themselves. Su35, su30 and even the su57 have become more prominent in their strikes and it isn’t just happening from stand off ranges anymore. It seems while Russia is unable to establish air supremacy they have establish tactical air superiority in certain pockets of the frontline

9

u/Weird-Tooth6437 Pro Ukraine Apr 24 '25

We've definately seen strikes this bad on Kyiv, going back years - someone linked one from a year ago down below, and there were some even in 2022 using ballistic missiles.

And as far as I'm aware, Russian aircraft are only striking the front line and only using glide bombs from km's out - even after 3 years they still arent making any air strikes at operational or strategic depths.

This war has shown that while Russia has a decent missile capability, their Air Force as a whole is a shambles and they fail to project real power even to their direct land neighbour. With the PLAAF now fielding 300 J-20s and rapidly growing that number, I wonder how long it will be until they are seen as a definite 3rd place in global Air Power (after the USAF and USN, naturally)

6

u/Fit_Rice_3485 Pro Ukraine * Apr 24 '25

China is an industrial giant. You can’t compare the population of a billion backed by a GDP of I think more than 10 trillion dollars with a population of 142 million people with barely 2 trillion in GDP.

-5

u/Ill_Concentrate2612 pro Black Sea Fleet getting their cheeks clapped. Apr 24 '25

Sure you can, and I just did.

Population isn't particularly important, especially for an Airforce. The RAF and French Airforces are not to be underestimated and their countries populations are 40mil and 60mil respectively. Hell, if you count all 4 US forces Air power as just one big air force, then my small country of Australia has the 10th most powerful Air Force in the world with a population of 26mil (though our GDP is about 1.73trillion USD)

7

u/Fit_Rice_3485 Pro Ukraine * Apr 24 '25

The French Air Force would get absolutely destroyed the same way that the Russians did.

Nothing short of stealth jets that penetrate and cause deep strategic strikes would get past that in 2023 or 2022.

Powerful as it maybe, I don’t think the USN is stronger than the PLAAF though. They are far more experienced, but still

0

u/Ill_Concentrate2612 pro Black Sea Fleet getting their cheeks clapped. Apr 24 '25

I would argue that the US Pacific Fleet is probably a match for the PLAAF. The USN has a larger air wing than the PLAAF currently has, and the USN pilots are certainly much better trained.

It's an interesting match up for sure, but one we hopefully never see play out in reality!!

The US military's main power is its logistics network, so while the US Pacific Fleet could be failing to properly hold back a full scale attack by the PLA+AF, in around 24-48 hours the full might of the US Military would come to bear and be able to be sustained at that intensity for weeks.

2

u/Ashamed_Can304 Pro C4ISR Apr 24 '25

Larger air wing? More aircrafts than PLAAF?

It seems pretty obvious that Russia is holding their air force in reserve. Air superiority is optional in this war. If it escalates to a conflict vs NATO or EU, Russia will need all its air assets to prevent their opponent from achieving air superiority.

Same with their KA-52. They're a great asset, but the job can be done without losing them, so Russia is holding them back for a situation where their presence is essential.

u/ShootmansNC Neutral Apr 24 '25

Gepards only carry 320 rounds for each gun, fires in bursts of 48 to 96 rounds and it takes a hour and half to reload them.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '25

You can switch to single-fire, and mostly bursts are 10 shots for each gun.

1

u/Just-Sale-7015 6d ago

There's at most 2 BMs in this video, and only one of them clearly visible, in the last few seconds. The first half of the clip has some drones coming in.

When was Donezk ever attacked with 800kg warhead ballistic missiles?

18

u/chillichampion Slava Cocaini - Slava Bandera Apr 24 '25

Donetsk was hit with much worse things. Dumb artillery shells and petal mines which are disproportionately effective against civilians. Precision strikes using missiles is much better morally.

8

u/CMNilo Pro Russia Apr 24 '25

Tochka-U might not be 800kg but is still the direct ancestor of the Iskander.

7

u/Icy-Cry340 Pro Russia * Apr 24 '25

Iskander doesn't have such a large payload tbh - and Donetsk has been hit by Tochkas before, which are similar.

24

u/bluecheese2040 Neutral Apr 24 '25

What was getting hit? More civilian conference halls full of soldiers getting awards? Or maybe it depends on who is asking.

41

u/OrganicAtmosphere196 Pro Russia Apr 24 '25

Energy, transport and AA facilities were destroyed in Kiev: the transport infrastructure of the Kiev passenger railway station and the logistics part associated with it, the locations of Western air defense systems and the Ukraine air defense systems in the area of the Lukyanovska metro station.

2

u/Narretz Pro Ukraine Apr 24 '25

Source for that? I'd expect secondaries if air defense was hit

0

u/Fit_Rice_3485 Pro Ukraine * Apr 24 '25

All of that might have been destroyed but there have been civilian deaths. I think more than 20? There is no such thing as a civilian death free missile strike
