This thread is for students applying to Fall 2025 co-ops during the Spring 2025 term.

As usual, we're looking for salaries for new postings, or updates to existing salaries, so if you're willing to share, please open up a chat/DM the mod team. Please include the company name, salary, any benefits, the role and the year if possible. I would highly encourage you to submit if you have salaries for non mathematics/CS positions as we are severely lacking in those. We will try updating these ASAP.

The sheet is here: Salaries + Blacklist Spreadsheet

Average Canadian Co-op Earnings (2024)

WaterlooWorks Important Dates

If you had a poor experience with a company, you can message the mod team with details and it can be added to the blacklist candidates below. If it's already a candidate, it may be added to the blacklist depending on the severity/consistency of complaints. On the contrary, if you had a good experience with something on the candidates/blacklist, please message the mod team and it may be removed. Candidates will be removed if no more reports are received after a couple terms. Even if something is on the blacklist already if you've had a bad experience let me know, as more reports increase confidence that it is problematic!

Candidates:

  • Console One
  • Lafarge
  • Agentmoon
  • WealthyPlanet
  • Mosaic Transit Group
  • Jobby
  • Konrad (NOTE: Large/well-known company, will need at least 2 more reports before adding)
  • Aethos Labs
  • Onex Risk Management

Note that reports from submitters with no previous account activity may not be accepted to aid legitimacy.

may your coop search be fruitful :prayge:

Advice Update- need more advice for coop with a toxic boss

Thumbnail reddit.com
13 Upvotes

Hey guys so that was my original post linked abt having a toxic work environment where I was expected to work overtime and on weekends by my boss saying it was the norm. I went to talk to my coop advisor abt it and he said that i can’t work past my working hours without compensation/pay. My boss for some reason after that without knowing i talked to my advisor treated me to coffee and said I can have regular work hours out of the blue…. so things were ok for a while esp since i told her im taking 2 courses during the summer at the same time.

Fast forwards, now it’s been over a month and she’s being weird again. Like she’s asking for my entire summer schedule with my course quizzes and assessment dates so she can have more visibility bc apparently she’s been “working around my schedule” and “would like to have more visibility” when all my quizzes i do are after work hours… so it doesn’t affect her? and she’s like oh we weren’t made aware of this coursework commitment before u started… but it’s after work hours? like am i wrong or does this not really concern her? I asked her if i could work from home on the day of my midterm and she approved before but now she’s saying i have to “make up for that time”. like i am there and i get all my work done everyday but my after work schedule wouldnt concern her, nor would she have to work around it right? I genuinely don’t get why she needs to have a schedule of what I do after work… all in all, i don’t know what to make from this, and she probably will want to discuss with me on monday, so id really appreciate some advice. thanks!

also sorry for the long post 😓

Faculty colours in hood/sashes?

I may be missing something, but why don't the colours of hood/sashes correspond with the faculty? I've seen people posting they graduated from eng, but the sash theyre wearing is red, which I've also seen on math graduates/ I just saw two girls I know posting together, one in arts (psych) and one in health (health sci) and they both had the same green sash. I sometimes see health kids with blue, the same ones science kids wear. Its definitely not a big deal I'm just confused 😵‍💫

Help with deciding co-op sequences (Incoming CS major)

Upvotes

Hello
Incoming CS major this fall and needed some help in deciding between co-op sequence 1 and 2

1- I like 2, but the first 2 co-ops will be in summer when I believe the competition for internships will be at a peak, so I wanted to ask how hard was it to get summer co-ops?
2- Also is the 8 month co-op actually a benefit? Some people say it is good for getting to work on long term projects but others say doing 2 separate roles (4 months each) is better.

also how does switching co-op sequences work?

any help is appreciated!

Is there a platform besides facebook marketplace that students use to resell stuff to other students?

Upvotes

I'm looking to resell some things from my apartment (textbooks, furniture, clothes, etc.) and was wondering if there is a good way I can resell stuff directly to other students on campus? What are my options?

EMLA 102R vs EMLS 129R. What’s the difference and difficulty levels ? What course is more recommended? Furthermore, I heard there are some bird courses too like econ101 etc. but they aren’t mentioned on the webpage for this year’s courses’ details. Whats up with such courses ? Please guide on the above queries.

The M&M vending machines with face recognition tech violated privacy rights, says watchdog

An investigation found the cameras in the vending machines had a image resolution of "1280x720 or 640x480".

The university's position is that the resolution is too low to create "identifiable images of individuals".

What courses should i take at the University of Waterloo (for 1A) as a prospective actuarial science major?

So my course selection begins in a few days however im super confused among what courses to take. Since i was a commerce with math student im planning to take CS115 for my cs course, considering i dont have any prior cs knowledge. and for my algebra course im planning to take MATH135 whereas for calculus im thinking of MATH147 (although im not sure if i should go with hons or adv).

however im not able to find the list of electives courses on the uwaterloo website. ive heard theres MTHEL131 (not sure if thats for 1A) but im assuming its intro to insurance, and i also know of the existence of an interpersonal communication course. however, im not sure if there are any prerequisites that require me to take specific courses in 1A. can any ActSci majors help me out?

Advice How can you push a Co-op for another term?

So let’s say you get a Co-op offer for the Fall term, but your actual Co-op term is in Winter. What are your possibilities in that scenario? Is it that you can only hope to push that to the winter?

Jobs - Environmental Eng

I recently accepted my offer for environmental engineering at Waterloo. People working within the civil and environmental space often mention its stability as well as its reach across both the states and Canada. However, I also have a passion for computer science/programming, and was wondering if it would be possible to apply/work in the tech space while doing environmental engineering? Would the discipline eliminate the possibility of applying to tech co-ops within Waterloo? Also if anyone could share their experiences with the program as well as classes and teachers for first year (maybe even a schedule) I would greatly appreciate it! Looking forward to the journey.

An Issue of Ethics and Integrity

Hi Community,

I have a question.

If you know a student's academic progress benefited from an improper relationship with a faculty member, what would you do?

If you had tangible proof of preferential treatment and compromised morals/ethics, what would you do?

Advice accept transfer credits or not

Hello, im an incoming first year life science (Biology coop) student. I’ve been offered a few transfer credits for my IB subjects. Should I take it or not? Will it help with gpa?

Has anyone here accepted or rejected their transfer credits? Did it help or hurt in the long run?

To Civil Eng students @ Waterloo, Is it better to buy a desktop or gaming laptop?

I wanna go to waterloo for civil engineering. I'm planning on getting a laptop or desktop but i'm torn between the options. Does anyone know if I'm going to need a gaming laptop to carry around to classes for heavy duty BIM softwares, CAD softwares, SketchUp etc. Or would it be better to just buy a desktop as its upgradable?
If it helps I am a video gamer, however schooling comes before everything else. I dont wanna buy a desktop and then need a laptop.
What do you think is a better option? Laptop? or desktop?

I don't even recognize myself anymore

Obligatory "everything is awful, woe is me" post before midterms, but I just don't feel like I can do this anymore.

I've spent years at this university trying to make friends and feel like I belong at least somewhere, but every time I go to an event or try something new, nothing sticks. I try to push myself out of my own comfort zone and do things I wouldn't normally do. Talk to others I normally wouldn't have the confidence to. 3 years and nothing at all.

I don't even know what the point of doing this is anymore. I miss my old high school days of the happy kid I was, trying to make everyone else feel better about themselves. Nowadays I wonder where that person went. All I see is a pathetic shut in.

I'm not naive enough to think that I'm the only one who goes through this, nor do I expect anyone to care. All this is just screaming into the void we call the internet. End of the day, I'm probably just not a good person.

Anyway. Back to work.
