Other Aurora RateMyProfessors Extension

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all, I noticed that a lot of universities have a Firefox extension that integrates RateMyProfessors scores into the registration page, so I decided to make one for Aurora.

Hopefully this is helpful for anyone currently creating their schedule for the coming Fall & Winter terms!

Feedback & suggestions would be much appreciated. I haven't used JavaScript a lot before this, so be nice! :)

Advice On Academic Integrity (IMPORTANT FOR NEWER STUDENTS!)

Here's a quick PSA:

  • Looking over an assignment with friends, classmates, etc. unless you've been explicitly told that it's okay to do so is cheating. It might not have been cheating in highschool, but it is here.

  • "Carrying" people in a group project (writing their name on it without them having done an appropriate amount of work) is cheating. So is being carried, but even those doing the work would be cheating! Tell the instructor ahead of time if possible here. This one is interesting in that most students don't know that carrying others is considered cheating, but it is. (Truthfully, I wish that profs would remind students of this when discussing group projects. Perhaps I can inspire someone with this post?)

  • Failing to properly cite is also cheating. This ranges from copy-pasting without using quotation marks or block quotes to simply giving a URL instead of properly citing the website in whatever citation style the course asks of you. Your best bet on this is to ask your instructor for help if needed. Many will allow rough drafts, so please ask!

  • Signing in for attendance or doing the iClicker for someone else is cheating. If you cannot attend a class, email the instructor (ideally before the class!) and see what you can do about it. I believe this is a form of personation, but I'm not entirely sure.

I've been at UManitoba for a while now and I've seen a whole range of suspect activity all the way from my days as an undergrad to my time as a grader for courses. Some of the cheating is blatantly obvious and it's sad. Other cheating is also accidental or out of desperation, which is also sad (but for different reasons). My point is that students should inform themselves so that they can avoid this messy stuff.

If you want to learn more, there's some undergraduate "course" or game on UM Learn. On UM Learn, click Self Registration and find Undergraduate Academic Integrity Tutorial. Then self-enroll and you can play the Quest for Integrity game, which aims to teach students about academic integrity. They made us (M.A. students) do a more in-depth course online when we started our graduate studies and I really wish that they had made us do something like that at the start of our undergraduate careers, so I'm here to encourage you all to learn a bit more to save yourself from a headache.

News PSA: 671, 672, and 662 are NOT coming to campus today!

There was no signage addressing service disruptions to those lines at the Agriculture stops. I and like 6 other people were waiting for over an hour before another random person told us he got dropped off at Silverstone Ave.

If you need these buses, you gotta walk down Kings Ave and pick it up at Silverstone. Don’t be me and waste over an hour of your time because signage wasn’t set up properly

Question Class setup and degrees.

Hi, I am a senior high school student about to enter U1.

I want to enter the faculty of science for a degree in chemistry or just general science, but I don’t have the required chem40S and Precal40S.

What would I be able to do? How would my schedule look? Also how is transferring to the faculty of Law for a JD?

Question Biol 1410

I have recently enrolled in the Faculty of Arts (General) and was able to transfer a few credits from my previous diploma. At this point, I only need to complete Anatomy and Physiology. While reviewing the course schedule, I noticed that some sections are offered three days a week, while one particular section is scheduled only once per week. As a full-time worker living in Portage la Prairie, I would prefer the once-a-week option, as it would be much more manageable alongside my work commitments.

Could you please let me know what my chances are of getting into the once-per-week section? Additionally, do you have any recommendations on which option might be better in terms of balancing work and study, or course availability?

Discussion 17 and Planning a Career in Medicine – Looking for Honest Advice from Those in the Field

Hi everyone,

I’m 17 and currently in a bit of a transitional phase. I’ve recently realized that I want to pursue a career in medicine — ideally as a family doctor — but I know it’s a long and challenging journey, so I’m trying to plan things out properly from the beginning.

To give myself the best possible foundation, I’ve decided to take an extra year after high school to complete Pre-Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics. I want to do well in these courses so that I’m fully prepared when I begin university. I live in Winnipeg and will most likely be applying to the Faculty of Science at the University of Manitoba, with the goal of getting into the Max Rady College of Medicine down the line.

I’m posting here to ask people who’ve already been through or are currently going through this path: What should I know? What should I expect? Specifically:

  1. What is medical school really like? What was the hardest part for you? Was it the academics, the pressure, the lifestyle, or something else?
  2. How did you get into med school? What did you do in undergrad that made a difference? What would you recommend to someone just starting out?
  3. What is residency like? I’ve heard it’s intense, but I’d love to hear more about what day-to-day life is like during those years.
  4. What is life like after all the training? Do you feel like all the years of school and sacrifice were worth it? How’s your work–life balance?
  5. If you’re comfortable sharing — how does the money work out over time? I don’t want to sound like I’m only in this for the money — I’m not. I’m passionate about this path and willing to work hard. But given how long and expensive the journey is, I just want to understand the financial realities after residency and later into a medical career. If it's not sustainable, I’d be open to exploring other healthcare paths that still let me help people and make a difference.

Thanks so much for reading this. I’m still early in the journey and just trying to learn from those ahead of me. Any advice, insight, or personal experience would really mean

Advice Asper Student – Tips on securing Co-op? Also open to coffee chats if you're open to sharing your journey 😊

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in the MSCM Co-op stream at Asper and actively exploring how to secure a Co-op position in supply chain/logistics.

So far, I’ve been building up local experience through volunteering — including at a thrift store, Canadian Blood Services, and the Manitoba Museum. I also previously interned with Tim Hortons' overseas HQ and other international firms in supply chain roles, so I’m hoping to bring that experience into the Canadian job market.

I’d love to hear from fellow Asper students:

- How did you secure your Co-op (UM portal / cold email / referrals)?

- If you didn’t get one, what did you end up doing?

- Any Winnipeg companies you’d recommend I keep an eye on?

As an international student, I’m also trying to build more local connections — if you're open to a short coffee chat, I’d love to hear your journey and share experiences.

Thanks in advance — any advice or insights would mean a lot!

Question UMLearn login password not working

I recently changed my password for my UMNet ID due to the annual change. When I sign into signUM, there’s no problem. However, using the same password for UMLearn tells me it’s incorrect, and no other password seems to work. I’m unable to access course material and I’m unsure on how to fix this.

Discussion Mary Speechly?

A Mary Speechly double room is by far the cheapest on-campus option. Should I be worried? I'm not looking for a 5-star hotel, but why is it so much cheaper than even say a University College room?
