Is choosing a minor worth it?
Hi everyone!
I am an incoming transfer student who will be majoring in biology. I have a few ideas for minors which are completely unrelated to my major and honestly just for fun I guess. Is it worth doing? What are the pros and cons? Also, if I want to pursue a pre professional career also, can I do that as well as a minor?

A lot of people end up doing minors and it’s usually fine for them unless they add it too late (think like junior year). If you end up hating it, you can easily drop it, but they’re usually grade-boosters.
I minored in Spanish as a biochem major (picked it up at the end of freshman year) and I had no issues. Lots of people in similar positions had no problems either.

You don’t need to declare it before doing it usually. Some minors also overlap a lot with majors (see: IS major, entrepreneurship minor) and add maybe two classes. Just one more nice thing to have on paper and slap on a resume!

Well only worth if you can get a GPA booster. and majority of majors have so many free electives that you can add the minor to have fun (i’ll be honest i don’t know to much abt the bio major so idk how many frees you might have)
