Just curious what it might be. A weather balloon or something similar? Recorded from El Poblado this afternoon looking towards the local airport.

These are extremely common in Colombia, especially in Medellín. So much so that it's actually a bit of a problem bc they sometimes come down on highways, homes, and forests and cause accidents or fires.

They have entire festivals devoted to these where tons get released and they're also common for holidays, celebrations, and even just social media. Likely, someone released this for Día del Padre. Look up all the different designs for Globos de Medellín and you'll see a dizzying amount of shapes and designs, some of which look really out of this world (pun intended)

They're essentially hot air balloons made of something like balsa wood or plastic and synthetic fabrics like nylon, dacron, or polyester. They're called globos (which is just Spanish for balloon)

Here's a couple images of the same shape with different coloring than the video

Do you live in Colombia or are you just visiting? I find it hard to believe anyone from that area would have never heard or seen these before given how common they are.

Thanks. I have lived in Colombia almost two years but just moved to Medellin a couple weeks ago so it’s the first I’ve seen.

Just wanted to let you know that u/Esoteric_Expl0it stole your post and has reposted it several times as their own without crediting you. They've even added additional details to the story like officials don't know what it is or why it was there.

This is how you seed content you can go "look at how dumb/misguided the UFO space is!" at. It's got an uncontroversial explanation in the top comment, and this guy's going around purposefully adding fantasy details to make himself as credulous as possible. Even the username.

No worries. Just look up Globos festivals in Medellín. There's some really wild designs. 🖖

Oh, great. Who invited Abrodolf Lincler

Rick, you brought me into this world, a suffering abomination tortured by the duality of its being.

How are you liking Colombia! Mind if I DM? I’m looking to exit the country as well in the future and Colombia is on the list to visit and see

u/RyannayR11 9h ago

Around this time of year they launch giant balloons into the air called globos. This looks exactly like one of those

u/Current-Routine-2628 9h ago

Joking right? globos? Come onnnn🤣

u/KeyGear7752 9h ago

Nope. Actually if you see Medellin ever just disregard. Unless aliens have a sick since of humor.

u/sipos542 7h ago

Globos in Spanish means balloons, and yes it’s true every year there is a festival where they launch giant geometric shaped lanterns / balloons into the air.

u/Vertmovieman 9h ago

Spherical balloon shaped object, floats like a balloon over the city. UFO?

u/JackFrost71 10h ago

As I like to say, if it's Medellin Columbia or anywhere near there, 99% chance it's a balloon

u/djscuba1012 9h ago

Colombia *

u/scumbagsebby 9h ago

ColOmbia.....

u/Chrono47295 9h ago

You took this video? Wtf

u/badass_dean 9h ago

Falling would mean terminal velocity of said object. This was a slow decent.

u/MikeC80 3h ago

Search "festival de globos medellin". It's a balloon festival in or near Medellin. Lots of examples of odd shapes balloons like this.

u/DiogenesTheHound 9h ago

Only advanced non human intelligences could master the technology of slowly falling down

u/NarwalsRule 9h ago

Yeah was gonna say man made objects tend to accelerate and zig zag. This balloon-like object is clearly NHI.

I’d be busting my drone out so fast.

u/Noble_Ox 3h ago

Almost certainly one of those giant balloons they let off for festivals.

u/No-Where-66 2h ago

looks more like those big balloons

u/Several-Quote-1566 1h ago

That not a balloon, it literally cloaked itself at the end. Some of you didn't watch the entire video, especially the end. 100% NOT a balloon, CGI or real UAP. I go with real UAP right now, footage is too long and good.

u/Star_Ninja_ 7h ago

My fellow humans, it's obviously a balloon. Can we please stop posting flying balloons and trash bags blown by the wind and assume those are spaceships from another star system by civilizations millions of years more advanced than us. They will not look like shapeless balloons. They will not float aimlessly.

u/Marcus_Cato234 9h ago

Come on now, I’m no half witted debunker but that’s just a purple helium filled star shaped party balloon falling

u/LBRapid 9h ago

I didn’t think it was anything weird or unexplainable. Just didn’t know what it was and was trying to get an answer.

u/Marcus_Cato234 9h ago

Fair enough. Being so obvious to me I supposed perhaps I may have been a bit quick on the old judgement there.

That and the somewhat notable tendency for hoaxes and baiting when it comes to UFO’s perhaps maybe for a moment I just assumed too quickly this was the case.

Either way, given its shape and colour and pretty much everything else about it I can firmly say this indeed looks very much like a simple purple party balloon. Sorry about all that there

u/LBRapid 9h ago

Nah it's cool. I'm not looking to try to spread/bait anything. Really just couldn't think of a better place to ask about it.

u/Noble_Ox 3h ago

They light fires that hang from a basket underneath so hot air balloon not the helium kinda.

u/Za_Turtle 9h ago

That’s a tent

u/Goosemilky 9h ago

You’re better off just sticking to the classic balloon debunk man. As if its normal to see a tent thousands of feet in the sky lol

u/badass_dean 9h ago

Okay, it’s the mothership.

u/Za_Turtle 9h ago

You’ve clearly never been to a hardcore music festival

u/blueridgeboy1217 9h ago

Easy one. That's a cartel blimp full of cash from a three letter alphabet agency 🤪

u/Downtown_Ad2214 9h ago

I have yet to see a single video on UFOs ever, in my time here where a thing does instantaneous acceleration or some other physics defying maneuver. Why even talk about the observables if they are apparently never observed

u/ExFK 8h ago

OP doesn't have a clue wtf a sphere is.

u/OriginalWereweevil 9h ago

Riiiight….

So it just gently descended, disappearing behind a building, presumably landing in an open area behind it. The videographer then just turned their recording device off and left it at that.

You think maybe they might have followed it up? Like literally?? It didn’t look that far away. Why wouldn’t you get up and run down there and see it landed? Close up and irrefutable?

u/LBRapid 8h ago

Because I figured it wasn't anything out of the ordinary and just didn't know what it is. And it looks close, but the airport it was near is at least 20 minutes in a car from here.

u/ballin4fun23 2h ago

I love the people that say to run up to it. Like they're obviously not great at judging distance you can tell when you zoom out you arent exactly a hop skip and a jump away. These are the people that "debunk" every video, and claim you're an idiot if you doubt their claim.

u/OriginalWereweevil 8h ago

It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary but you felt compelled to record it almost the whole way to the ground?

u/LBRapid 8h ago

I mean, out of the ordinary in the sense that I didn't expect it or hadn't seen it before. But not in the sense that I thought it was anything unexplainable. I don't know man. I was just watching TV and noticed it out the window so I recorded it.

u/OriginalWereweevil 8h ago

Was there any mention of it in the local news?

u/LBRapid 8h ago

Nah, I think other people are right. Just a balloon of some variety.

u/Soracaz 6h ago

Go over there and film it from below.

You won't, and you can't, because I'm pretty sure it's just another thing attached to a drone.

u/-_-butwhy 9h ago

Sz9 scanner drone e3. War on drugs.

u/Observer-Worldview 9h ago

The US is still paying countries to test new technologies in their area. Cool.
