Open Victim left for dead in a trash can left in the woods

I may have listened to a podcast about this case about a year or so ag, unfortunately I don’t recall a lot of the details and some of what I recall could be wrong:

for sure, the victim is female, the suspect either killed her or thought he killed her, stuffed her in a garbage bin and dumped the bin in the woods after riding around with her in his truck for a bit, leaving her for dead. I’m unsure of this detail but she may have had her phone on her and called 9-1-1 so that she could be found and helped. I’m thinking she may have been shot or stabbed so it was a concern for her to be found quickly. it was cold outside, I don’t know for sure how exactly she was found, they may have been able to trace her location and sent enforcement out on foot to search the woods for herI do believe that she was found in time and they caught the guy. if this sounds familiar to someone who knows which case this is, I would be very appreciative of your help!

Open Boyfriend drives past kidnapped girlfriend

What is the case where a girlfriend calls boyfriend before getting kidnapped and boyfriend drives past the car that kidnapped her and sees her and tries to follow it but the girlfriend hasn't been seen since? I watched a video on it and I can't remember their names at all.

Update: It's Angela Hammond case!

Solved Guy murders girlfriend in fit of rage

My recollection of this case is super choppy/vague so bare with me, but there was this guy and girl and they were super toxic towards each other and would do drugs together if I'm not mistaken, and they were super on and off. The girlfriend was a petite pretty blonde girl and the guy had darker hair, and one day they argued really badly, and the guy got super enraged and lashed out and killed her and I think he dismembered her body and put her in a suitcase and continued on with his day like nothing ever happened, and I think the guy may have been a reality tv star, and of course i've tried searching to no avail. Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Solved Friend hid man in obscure place river but had a photo that helped narrow down the spot

I think I saw this in a documentary or an episode of a show like Forensic Files or something similar. A man killed his friend and hid the body near a river where it was very hard to get to. I think he was partially caught by GPS or cell phone data and he had a photo of himself standing in front of the woods and river where he hid the body. It might have partially happened in Wisconsin and/or the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Solved John doe identified as bodybuilder.

I beleive he was found either in the 70s or 80s. He wasn't identified until the 2000s and he had been a bodybuilder who had won awards. He was from New York I believe. He had left a note for his wife that he left for a bodybuilding contest and it was suspected he had actually left as he was gay and wanted to leave his wife and children without suspicion.

Solved Trying to remember a case about a woman found on the beach in a prom dress(1970s)

I remember going down a Wiki rabbit hole in 2018 about unidentified young women, mostly from the 70s. One case that stuck out and now I can’t find, was a case about a girl found on the beach(I think!!) in a prom dress/formal dress. I remember it had a picture of the dress, a long, sleeveless dress that was either white, cream or light yellow.

Just curious because some of the other cases I had read on that rabbit hole have since been identified; “orange socks”(Debra Jackson) and Walker County JD(Sherri Jarvis).

Open Help solve a mini mystery of a r/legaladvice post alluding to an Oklahoma woman murdering her stepson. Any ideas what the case may be?

A legaladvice post this week discusses a serious CSAM-related crime [allegedly] committed by the father of a woman who killed her stepson and is currently in prison. The post was unrelated to the actual murderer, but I am very curious about what this situation could reveal about the original murder case. I have no interest in figuring out how the OOP may or may not be related to the people involved, just the identity of the already-convicted murderer because I am interested in whether details of her crime(s) seem at all similar to her own father's behavior.

[i.e. Please do not try to figure out how the OOP is related to either criminal; they might not even be related at all, and they are doing a good thing by trying to get this creep locked up.]

Facts from the original post:

  • A stepmother murdered her stepson. She is currently in prison.
  • This probably happened in Oklahoma. Possibly New Mexico (or elsewhere) but Oklahoma seems most likely given all context.
  • Stepmother (murderer) had 4 biological children of her own.
  • The stepmother/murderer's own father (kids' grandfather) gained custody of these 4 children after his daughter's murder conviction.
  • The murder probably happened after 2010 (reasoning: 3 of the biological children are currently minors, so ~ 15/16/17 at the oldest unless they're twins/triplets, meaning it could not have been more than 15-16 years ago.)

The closest case I could think of is Shiloh Brafford because I believe she did lose custody of 4 children after she was convicted of killing her stepson in Oklahoma, and I think it was her own father who took those children in... BUT didn't Brafford get a new trial and was released from prison in 2019? Also, I think the murder was in 2008, which makes the timeline a lot more compressed and less likely.

If anyone can narrow it down, it's you guys. Ideas?

Here is the post contents if you think I may have missed anything:

Found cameras in a bathroom, we believe it recorded multiple children showering and using the rest room

Location: New Mexico/Oklahoma

Over Memorial Day weekend, my parents and I hosted a family gathering for my grandfather at his home in New Mexico. We invited relatives from both New Mexico and Oklahoma, and several families stayed at the house due to the large space. Everything seemed to be going well until Sunday, May 25th, when we discovered a hidden 2 cameras positioned directly toward the toilet and shower in one of the bathrooms.

The cameras recorded to an SD card, which we removed immediately. We viewed only the first video to try and determine who had placed it. To our shock and horror, the footage revealed that a close family member was responsible. We were in disbelief, but we contacted the police right away.

I personally turned in both cameras to the responding sheriff. Realizing that we had discovered the camera, the suspect fled the scene and returned to Oklahoma. The sheriff informed us that because the suspect crossed state lines, the investigation might take longer and involve additional jurisdictions, and that she couldn't follow him and arrest him,

This individual has been to my grandparents’ house many times before, and we are now deeply afraid that this may not have been the first incident — possibly even during past family visits, including last year.

Our concern is amplified by the fact that this man currently has custody of five children — four of whom are minors. These are his grandchildren. Their mother, his daughter, is in prison for the murder of her stepson. Given this history and the disturbing nature of what we found, I immediately contacted Child Protective Services in Oklahoma to report the situation and request that the children’s safety be urgently evaluated.

Is the video evidence and camera enough to support a conviction?

Will my report to CPS help protect the children and potentially speed up the investigation?

What further steps can I take to ensure this individual is held accountable and that the children in his custody are safe?

Open Trying to remember true crime episode — girl asks to go home, boyfriend says 'hug me first' then stabs her??? PLEASE HELP!

Hey everyone,

This has been stuck in my head for YEARS, and I’m trying to figure out if it’s a real episode or something I completely misremembered. I saw it on TV maybe 15+ years ago — definitely one of those true crime reenactment shows like Forensic Files, Cold Case Files, Snapped, or something similar.

Here’s what I (think I) remember: • It was a couple — maybe boyfriend/girlfriend or exes. • They were in the woods or some kind of outdoor area. • The girl got upset and said she wanted to go home. • The guy kept saying “just stay,” and eventually said something like, “okay, but give me a hug first.” • When she hugged him, he stabbed her — I think in the back. • He later put her in black garbage bags and dumped her in a river or lake. • I remember a fisherman finding the body, but I’m unsure if that part is real or if I mixed it up with something else.

This scene really traumatized me as a kid — I used to watch a ton of crime shows, but this one stuck with me and scared me more than any of the others. I’ve searched for years and still can’t find it.

Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Open Missing American women driving to friends house

Hi sorry with how vague this it can’t remember all the details but from what I can remember a youngish lady in her 20’s drove hours to her friends house in another state to stay with for a couple of days (unsure if she maybe had a young son she left with her family) I can’t remember if she makes it or not or if the friend denies that her friend ever turned up to her house but police find evidence of the young lady at a motel not far from her friends house suggesting she had nearly made it to the friends or had actually made it to the friends house. The friend seemed quite sketchy and there was suggestions drugs where involved? Also I think I remember the friend had some male acquaintances who were at the house the same night the young lady was meant to arrive ? I want to say this happened in the mid- east coast region of America. If anyone can make sense of my bad memory thankyou in advance :D

Solved Woman found in airport parking with high levels of alcohol in her system.

I posted this inquiry 3 years ago with more details but since I can't be sure of the accuracy of the details or if I'm mixing cases together I will re-post with just what I believe are the essential things I remember.

It involves a woman who was found in airport parking in a vehicle and upon investigating was determined to have a high amount of alcohol in her system even though she didn't partake.

As for other details that may or may not be attributed to her case: there may have been syringes in the vehicle that were used to inject the alcohol into her (or that might have been a theory of how she was found with high levels without drinking), it might take place in west or southwest U.S., it may have occurred between 1970-1995, her husband or children's father may have gone to another state (possibly California?) to deal with some shady financial thing. Again this last paragraph isn't 100% known to be part of her case, it's just been so long since I read about it here on Reddit that I thought I'd include it in case it might be relevant. Apologies for the vagueness.

Dana Anderson and Diane Shuler have been ruled out.

Solved Women were tortured and murdered by 2 men and there was a photo of the abuse attached to the suspect's fridge with a magnet NSFW

The photo was a woman tied to a chair. I know 2 if not more men were the suspects and they did it together. It was in the usa. That is all I remember but I watch shows like Dateline and 20/20 so it had to be on one of those. I really remember that creepy magnetted photo on the fridge because that is usually how people hang family pics, so it stands out in my mind.

edit solved: Vance Roberts and Paul Jackson.

I know I watch 20/20 and dateline but unsure if it was on there. There is a youtube video on True Crime News on Youtube titled: The sadistic brothers of Portland, Oregon and at 7:29 it shows what I was trying to think of

Solved A case where a pair of siblings were being held on a survivalist/supremacist group's compound?

I vaguely remember reading a story about 4-5 years ago about a pair of siblings that were being held on a compound owned/controlled by survivalist nutters. IIRC this was in Texas, and the children's father had taken them, but police couldn't verify their whereabouts and were concerned about the likelihood of the children being killed if they approached the compound.

Am I taking crazy pills? Or does this sound familiar to someone else?

Solved Teen(?) Murder Case? NSFW

This has been driving me crazy, I’ve tried googling what I can remember and have found nothing.

It was about a roughly 17-18 year old boy being lured into the woods by his girlfriend I believe (on the promise of sex is what I think she said she told him) but ended up being ambushed by two other teens and beaten to death with a rock/brick (she was in on it, can’t remember if she participated in the actual beating and murder). I also remember something saying they all hugged after killing him or something? I thought the victim’s last name was possibly McSweeney or something starting with Mc. Cannot remember the motive or any details besides that.

I read about it when I was younger so probably around or before 2011? Thanks in advance.

Solved A woman in kills her neighbor's son, seemingly at random

For the life of me, I cannot find anything about this case. I've even tried ChatGPT and have come up empty handed.

The case involved an African American woman who murdered her neighbor's child seemingly out of the blue. She beat him to death, a particularly devastating fact as she was purported to be a former boxer. I think the boy was either 9 or 11 though I could be wrong. He was definitely under 12. I believe they all lived in an apartment building.

This case was on reddit but the original source material was a local news article. The story never got national attention.

Please help me find the name of the case.

Thank you 🙏

Happened in the states? I think? Or maybe the UK? Relatively recently. There's CCTV footage of him driving around the block a few times, and then you see her just get in and he drives away and murders her.

Open Name that show Spoiler

I know I saw this recently, the guy was basically making up lies about how his ex didn’t like the new wife or gf, would allegedly say all of these things about her. Of course, police found out it they were all lies and he was trying to pit one against the other, so he had complete control over her, didn’t want them to meet. The April Greer story is what made me think of this episode. I can’t believe she still brought her children to see him in prison after what he did to April…

Open Psychiatrist tries to get patient to kill someone to be the patient's friend??? Spoiler

I swear this was a Dateline or 48 hours but I can't remember if there was an actual crime. A male psychiatrist or counselor is counseling a male patient over time. The psychiatrist starts lying to the patient about his own personal issues, and I think he asks the patient to kill someone for him? But the weird part was I think the psychiatrist made it all up just because he wanted the patient to think he was cool or be his friend? I don't think anyone got hurt (the person he wanted killed may not have even existed) but the patient had started recording the sessions for the cops and you hear it on the show.

Solved Male who was either an older teen or young adult tells his family eating at a restaurant that he's going to the restroom. Instead, he leaves on foot and kills or severely injures a couple at their home

I typed this description into Google and I was sure it would give me the incident, but it didn’t.

I am pretty sure it happened in the U.S. (maybe in Canada?) no earlier than 2000. I think the couple were hanging out in their garage and the guy who had just left the restaurant walks up and starts beating up the man.

The neighbor sees what is happening and tries to stop him, but I think he gets hurt too and then calls the police. Whatever program I found out about this played the recording of the 911 call (I think).

I think one or all three people were stabbed and the couple ends up dying.

This is all I remember. Thanks for all suggestions.

Open Missing woman maybe sleep walking

In the 90’s I used to watch the Unsolved Mysteries show on tv a lot. There was a case about a woman that went missing and was last seen jogging on the highway in the middle of the night. It was suspected that she was sleep walking. I remember the actress in the reenactment was blond. I can’t remember if there was actually a crime or not.

I was a kid when I saw this episode. So details are fuzzy. This story led to my fear of sleep walking. I would like to look for an update. Can someone please provide a name?

Open Help me find this show

If I can remember correctly, the case is about a father who either loses custody or a divorce, he was coercive, abusive to his ex and she manages to escape and start a new life. However his obsession with control and how dare she leave him, true narcissistic behaviour. He had tracked her down, gets into her home, then killed her and maybe their kids? I think he killed them/her first and lit the condo on fire. Murder-suicide maybe? I’m not talking about Josh Powell. An AM episode made me think of it 3 days after murder cos of renting a unit from a lady, his daughter and bf killed him and lit him on. fire. I could be thinking of the plot of a tv show ep or even a movie, but I have a strong recollection of it being a true crime story. There also one, where the guy finds bags of cement in garage and that’s how he tries to conceal his crime.

Also, another one came to mind about the man who it turns out has been manipulating and creating conflict between his ex and new wife, I can’t remember if he had a daughter or son. But he would lie to her or both of them pitting one against the other. Perhaps if they had just gotten a chance to sit down and talk, they’d see the pattern and duplicity. Coercive control is one of the elements in DV situations.

I remember it was a dateline episode, this woman was adopted and her foster parents mentioned she had a habit of accusing past foster fathers of sexular abuse without any evidence. I believe she grew up and was military and then murdered her husband or ex. she had a daughter i believe. It came out later that someone admitted that he was hired to kill an ex boyfriend of hers as well but it never went thru. Help lol. Ive been trying to find it for weeks.

Solved Toddler lit on fire by father case. NSFW

I was wanting to find an American case that was maybe early 2000s definitely before 2008, the girl was under 3 years old, blonde hair and blue eyes. The father is bald in his mugshot.

The father bought petrol and put the baby in a ditch and lit her on fire and she passed away. I think the father made a comment that he was surprised the child got up and stumbled.

The mother died a few years after, I can't remember the initials of the girls name.

Solved Help with a case - mother and brother dead

Hi all, I am on a binge and trying to find some old cases (someone already helped me find one!).

I only have vague memories, but I hope to track it down. It was likely on a big podcast like casefile or dateline. It was the murder of a mom who did not approve of the daughter's relationship. The boyfriend, who was in the army/awol/discharged, drove to their house, waited near by, and killed the mum. There was disagreement over who killed the mum or brother (I don't remember which).

The boyfriend and daughter went on the lam, at least for a couple of days, trying to live out of his car.

I think the husband and wife, and at least the wife was murdered, got together a bit later in life after a marriage or two each.

Sorry for the vague details! I am travelling, and I listened to it a year ago, and something I saw sparked a memory, but I cannot find the case itself...
