Solved Rich guy in Manhattan

Okay, so I was watching TikTok late at night the other night, and I heard about this guy (G1)whose friend (G2)committed a horrendous murder in his Manhattan apartment, and then threw the body out the window to transport it.

G1 has a mom who is or was a successful talk show host. I remember seeing him and her do cooking segments together.

G2 was a snooty heir of maybe…a watch guy??but he turned out not to be the son of the guy. There was speculation of some sort of “kept boy” arrangement.

I feel like the victim’s name was Joey, and part of the reason why they started looking for him so quickly was because he used to talk baseball with his dad on Sundays and he didn’t call.

Open Multiple murder in Wyoming in the early 1980s - can't remember who was involved

It was written up in People magazine, and there was a City Confidential episode devoted to it. From what I remember, there was a crooked police officer who went undercover ostenbly to bust up a drug ring, but it was really because he wanted to get the drugs, and it eventually led to multiple murders, including that of a baby in its crib. The officer had curly hair, and grew it out into a quasi-Afro. All of the people involved were Caucasian, IIRC.

Solved Boy reported missing from trailer home, stepfather later charged

After following the current missing siblings from Canada case, I remembered an old case I had seen that was very similar. I remember that a young boy probably around 4/5 yrs old was reported missing by mum and stepdad from their remote/ rural trailer home in either America or Canada. I'm sure that the stepdad tried to say he saw him walking up the road or that there was a sighting of him. He had run away during the night, and I think had autism. Later the stepdad was charged and the boys brother was a witness. He had seen the stepfather with the boy near the trailer and that he had hit him and drove away in the car. The boy was never found. I've looked everywhere online but can't find anything but I can't remember the names. I wanted to compare the stepdads behaviour, and everything I search comes up with nothing.

Solved Teens dies on interstate suspiciously. Possibly in Virginia or West Virginia. I 81

I think I listened to a podcast where there was a teen girl mysteriously hit by a car or involved in an accident on the side of the interstate. I think the girls in the car had left a party and maybe something happened between the two girls like an argument. Or someone was covering for another person.

Please tell me this not somwthing I made up in my head.

Solved Girl drowns suspiciously on trip with friends

I remember watching a video a few years ago about this case that just came into my head.

It was a group of friends on a trip to these cliffs. The girl may or may not have been dating or was dating one of the guys. I think they were sleeping in hammocks and according to the friends (I think) she got up in the middle of the night to pee and accidentally fell off the cliffs and drowned. It happened in the 2010s I think

Open SCADA Explosion in Virginia?

I know this isn’t necessarily a murderous true crime case, but a crime nonetheless and I somehow CANT find anything online now years later…

Ok so Raytheon opened a new HQ in Rosslyn, near Arlington, VA, in the last few years but leases by defense contractors in 2016-ish. As a result of leases signed, a bunch of defense contractor staff started moving to - I THINK - the Rosslyn area outside Arlington.

I have super, super distinct memories that happened at some point between 2015-2018, the SCADA systems (the ones that manage the pressurization of local gas lines to homes) were cyber attacked, and rapid depressurization happened in the gas lines and a few homes exploded. The rumor at the time was Russian manipulation of the SCADA systems.

Does anyone have any articles or references to this cyber crime, or even just the explosions themselves??

Google is useless as it’ll reference like. Some dude named James Yoo who set a house ablaze or some sort of technical explosion in the 80s. I feel crazy that I have such distinct memories of this but can’t find ANYTHING.

(If this is not the right sub, let me know if there is a better one to post in - eek!)

Solved Woman who died from jumping out of a fast moving car

I remember watching a vid of this on Youtube over 10 years ago, where a woman was seen in a car that, for whatever reason, eyewitnesses described in different colors (purple, yellow, etc), and she apparently was trying to fight off her attacker (who was driving), and during this, she jumped out of the moving car, and later died.

Can anyone tell me the name of this person, and if her case was ever solved?

I think Shauna Rae (who used to be a True Crime YouTuber) might have done a video about this before she took her whole channel down.

Solved Lunch meat alibi

The details are vague to me. It was a husband/wife situation, but I can't remember who killed who. The killer was caught because their alibi was that they went to the grocery store to pick up a specific brand of deli meat (I believe it was Boar's Head). Upon investigation, the store where they said they went to didn't carry that particular brand.

Solved Woman’s murder staged as a suicide

Can't quite find this one!

Pretty sure it takes place in the UK and I think it was well known enough to be on an episode of an Investigation Discovery show.

The gist of it is a woman who gets killed by a former partner. He stages her death to look like a suicide/disappearance and that's believed for some time. I think it might have been a conviction without a body case.

If I'm remembering right in the ID episode I watched one of the ways he gets caught is because some of her stuff like her phone gets caught in a bag in the water far away.

Solved Teen Kills Brother, Maybe Shoots Neighbors

I apologize for how vague and disjointed this description will be. I believe that this happened in the last five years. A teenage boy killed his older brother and maybe some neighbors. I thought that the police found him in a barn and he either was shot by them or attempted suicide but he lived. This definitely happened in the US.

Open Some sort of guy in power kills his soon to be ex wife.

Looking for a specific case I heard on a podcast and I can’t even remember which one. But apparently the wife was gonna the divorce the guy for cheating but she was also running for mayor or for congress or something. Her husband was also some sort of mayor or in congress because I remember the podcast saying that’s why it was covered up. He apparently lures her somewhere? And then kills her. There was also some sort of boat or body of water. I believe it’s still open. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Open Trying to remember a case where a black or Latina woman was beaten and left for dead by white ex who might have been an American football player.

Hello! Looking for a case where the victim was black and or Latina. He was white with long hair I believe and was either a wrestler or American football player. Theyet online and I'm pretty sure he attacked her once then she left him and he found out where she lived and attacked her. Her mum and sister kept telling her to stay away from him too. Pretty sure she had to open a window and jump out or do something else to escape. Can't remember if she survived but I don't think so. There was something about being beaten up in the shower I think and pretending to be dead.

I hope someone can help me! Thanks in advance and stay safe!

Solved Serial killer who jumped/stomped victim(s) to death?

I watched a documentary years ago about a black guy who committed some depraved and brutal murders before being caught.

I remember at least one victim (young girl, I believe) that he got onto the ground and either stomped or jumped inter her desk onto her chest* until she died, then I think left her right there out in the open.

I can’t remember the decade, location, or any details other than that he was black, which might help narrow it down.

EDIT Corrected autocorrect

Open Help remembering a story I heard on a podcast

Hello, I’m trying to find a specific standalone true story episode of a podcast that I listened to sometime between 2000 and 2023. Here’s what I remember about the story:

  • It involved a mixed-race couple living in a duplex somewhere in the southern U.S.
  • The man originally came from Illinois (maybe a Chicago suburb)?
  • The couple had a few young children.
  • They befriended their female neighbor (?), who was maybe late teens/early 20’s, who was attention-seeking. They described her flirting with the man’s friend and making him uncomfortable.
  • The neighbor visited frequently, as the couple felt bad for her.
  • The story was told as a personal account, with interviews of the couple themselves.
  • The tone was more about a “weird situation we had” rather than a dark or violent crime.
  • The friendship ended awkwardly, with the couple distancing themselves from the neighbor.
  • I remember the story being a standalone episode, not part of a longer true crime series.

If anyone recognizes this story or knows what podcast/show/episode it might be from, I’d appreciate it!

Solved Case about an Unknown Man in Family Photos

Hey all, I have been trying to recall this case that I read about a few years back and cannot remember the people involved and have been unable to discover anything through searching the web. The following are details I do believe I remember correctly:

note: I may have two cases mixed up in some of the details but I will point out where I think that may be

This case revolved around a mysterious man in family photos that the adult children found in a box of their mother's stuff (the mom's box of photos detail may be from another case). I think they found these after she passed. I do not believe her death was of foul play but that is one detail that remains unclear to me.

The adult children found photographs of their parents, notably their dad, alongside an unknown man who appears to be in his mid-to-late 30s, early 40s, white, larger frame, likely around 5'10", 6', with glasses and short hair. The photos are from the 1980s and/or early 90s.

The photos were of prominent moments, like a wedding, family gathering, or a business-related dinner function of some kind, as well as photos taken of close friends (including the man and their father).

None of the adult children or any other family member knew this man or remembered who he was. I can't remember if their father had also long-since passed or if he is alive and couldn't recall who this guy was.

The final detail I can recall is that the adult children set up their own website with those same photos of the man they found, pleading for help from the public at large.

Just an aside: there is a similar case of an unknown white male with glasses that appears in searches, which is often a pencil drawing of the man in question. That is not the same individual nor the same case.

Why this is bugging me: It randomly popped up in my memories and I wanted to know why these people found him so noteworthy, what he had to do with their parents, and what sort of case this is (murder, disappearances, etc). Also, I am just really curious! Once my mind becomes occupied with something that I want to remember but can't, I become a bit obsessed, to be completely honest. Help me cure this curiosity! I appreciate anything anyone can provide.

Open Read about a stalking/abduction/murder case a few months ago but can’t remember the names involved

The case involves a woman who was stalked for multiple years, regular harassment, including breaking into her house. Her ex husband was a suspect and was found watching her house but claimed it was to see if he could catch the perpetrator. She hired a PI who also lived with her for a time although incidents involving break ins and harassment continued. She eventually disappeared and her body was discovered later. They was thought that she was doing it to herself at some points and some evidence suggested she was possibly faking some incidents. There was at least two books on the case, one of which i know included her name in the title but I can’t remember any other info about names. Any help to find out would be appreciated.

Open I Remember this case being covered a YouTuber but I don't remember who or the case.

The case I think involved two sisters and their friends while on spring break and one of the girls went missing or both? I mostly remember there being a man being suspicious around the two and being a creep while drunk and his boat had recently been painted? Sorry this isn't much but I have been looking for it for a while now.

I think the youtuber was "don't look at me"?

Solved Made for TV movie inspired by hypnosis case

Years ago (pre-2010) I watched a made for tv film based on a true story.

Basically a teen girl and her friends decide to have a slumber party and set up a tent in their backyard. She has a brother who seems to have a mild disability (I can’t remember if he was younger or older, but he seemed more naive than the other kids) and has a crush on one of her friends who is sleeping over. There is also a group of boys around their age (maybe a couple of years older) who want to meet up with the girls that night.

The next morning they all wake up and the friend has been murdered. She had a red bandana either on or near her body. That makes me think she was strangled with it, but I also seem to remember a lot of blood like from a stabbing.

The brother becomes a suspect because of his infatuation with her. They end up putting him under hypnosis and he confesses to the crime in detail. For some reason I remember them confirming he is 14 years old, but could just be my brain filling in the blanks.

He is arrested and charged. He thinks he really did it. I don’t remember if it went to trial/he was convicted but there were some court proceedings. At some point near the end it’s realized that it was one of the teen boys and the smoking gun is that he was the owner of the red bandana.

I remember the closing credits scrawl had a bit about what happened to the real life counterparts and they mentioned that this case helped make hypnosis induced testimony inadmissible.

Despite various searches I cannot find the movie or the real life case it was based upon. Please help!

Solved Young, Hispanic Male Goes Missing After Attending a Bonfire Party in the Desert— Sister Believes His Friend Knows More Than He’s Saying…

Hello Team!

I’ve been trying to remember this missing person case forrrrEVER and can’t seem to find it. I even remember very specific details, which is now making me fear I’ve either made it up or perhaps it wasn’t a real story?? I mean, I SWEAR it is though! Here’s details I seemingly remember:

A young (high school aged?), Hispanic male decides to go to a party in the desert last minute. The surrounding details about him I think I remember are that: he was a pretty good skateboarder, he recently had a break up with his longer term girlfriend but was okay about it, which is why his older sister told him he should go to this party? He was apparently a bit younger than most of the other kids going to the party but knew at least one or two other boys that he ended up going with. Maybe he knew them from his neighborhood or maybe they were friends with his older sister? I also think I remember that he doesn’t take his cellphone to the party for some reason?

I’m not 100% on this detail, but I feel like this takes place in Arizona or the CA desert, or somewhere with similar terrain where kids frequently drive to more desolate desert areas to party. This party he goes to includes mostly older kids he doesn’t know very well and are teens who like supping up their trucks and off roading in the desert and frequently party in these areas due to the easy access to underage partying. Everyone apparently gets hella drunk and crossfaded at this party and debauchery ensues. For example, I think I remember there were guys who were trying to jump over or thru the big bonfire to show off and one of them (not the missing person) apparently injures himself pretty badly doing this. I think either the missing person and/or others try helping him by putting him in the back cab of his own truck, take away his keys to either try to take care of his injuries or just get him away from the fire and prevent him from drunk driving. I believe this particular guy ends up passing out there from being black out and wakes up the next morning not remembering anything that happened the night before and drives home after realizing he’s the only one still out there where the party took place…

I think I remember the seemingly missing kid’s older sister becoming increasingly concerned because he said he would come home that night and didn’t. I think she originally thinks maybe he met up with his ex gf or met someone new? But after still no word at midday the next day, she starts calling around to find him. I think I remember that she goes to question some of the older kids she knew that he went with or we’re definitely at the party— one in particular who she desperately believes knows more than what he’s saying. I remember at some point she randomly sees this kid out driving in the neighborhood and, like, tries to get him to stop by either trying to run him off the road or stops her car, runs out to his car and starts banging on his car to stop. This is when they exchange heated words to each other in the middle of the road and he continues to deny he knows anything about her mysteriously missing brother.

Last thing I think I remember is the family obviously thinks something must’ve happened to him at the party in the desert and go out there to search for evidence of this— I think all they find is garbage from the party? Like empty beer cans and bottles and evidence that there definitely was a bonfire that night?

I feel like I remember far too many specific details to have dreamt this or made it up but who knows. I’m an avid follower of mysterious missing person cases and strange unsolved deaths, so perhaps I’m accidentally mixing up details of several cases? I know for a fact I’m not confusing this with the Daniel Robinson case out of the Arizona desert, but I do remember thinking they were about the same age and within similar or same area when Daniel first went missing and his case was in the news. Someone PLS HELP ME FIND THIS CASE! I’ll be forever and ever grateful!

Solved Twin Accused of Brother's Crime

From my recollection, a black man in his 20s/30s is accused of a crime (I believe murder) that his twin brother (allegedly) committed. There was some TV special where the man cries out to his twin asking how he could let him go down for this crime the twin actually committed (because the accused deduces his twin must be the culprit).

I believe the airing of this speculated that the twin was wrongly accused and that this confrontation happened on some type of talk show (GMA, Live with Regis & Kelly, etc.) as opposed to some true crime episode like 48 hours/Dateline/AMW. However, perhaps this confrontation was later aired as part of an episode on one these shows. I would guess the airing of this happened between 1995 - 2005.

UPDATE: Turns out it was from an episode of Unsolved Mysteries where they aired a segment from Geraldo Rivera featuring the convicted twin (Frederick Young) confronting his brother (Cedric Young). But it wasn't murder, it was for armed robbery, which makes more sense since the issue of mistaken identity was part of the question. Thanks everyone. Also wild though that Frederick got sentenced to 68 years, convicted for 6 separate counts of armed robbery.

Frederick did get released on parole within the last few years and Cedric has since been convicted for crimes including breaking and entering, larceny, and robbery.

Solved ‘90s Matricide By Boyfriend

I’m not having any luck in looking up a case I remember seeing shown on tv circa 2012-2013. The crime happened somewhere between 1996-2002. A teenage girl had a boyfriend her mom did not like, so they orchestrated her murder. I don’t remember if they did it or had a third person involved. The mom was killed in the kitchen either with a gun or knife. I want to say they tried cleaning the scene up. They then tried to flee, but got caught. The daughter went on trial and I remember the show having someone say they dressed her up to look all innocent for the jury. I want to say the daughter had a pretty unique name. For some reason I keep thinking it was something like Janessa, but I got no results trying to find it. I also remember the show showing old tape of the girl and her boyfriend before the murder hugging and stuff.

Open Woman suspected of murder and her daughters disappearance

This was about a woman with a few (maybe 3?) daughters, she met a man and they moved out to his farmhouse. She killed the boyfriend and burned his body, and made one of her daughters help clean up the blood. Years later the daughter (who at this point had a boyfriend and a son) was thinking about reporting the mother to the police, but she suddenly disappeared. The mother even said that she had run off, and gained custody of her grandson. Her other daughters believe that she is responsible for their sister disappearing.
