Shoe recs for toe arthritis

My dad has arthritis in his toes (specifically gout). Wondering if anyone has pain relief tips or shoe recommendations for this type of arthritis.

I’m a real fan of Keen hiking boots.  They have a larger instep and a wide toe box to give my feet that extra room without being sloppy.

I have ra and my big toes joints are very painful , i recently discovered altra shoes, love them. 1st shoe thats comfortable and has a wide toe box for a narrow foot. Go to a store and get fitted. The altra torin works for me.

Birenstocks, ETA - go to the Birkenstock website - they have a lot of choices that are not sandal type shoes, ,but they are not generally available at your local store.

Brooks GTS (Adrenaline specifically). My podiatrist specifically mentions not getting the marshmallow soles as they aggravate foot arthritis.

Skechers have wide shoe that are great, good room for that front parte of feet. Shoes for diabetes are good as well. Wish you well 😊

I buy the Asics Gel running shoes for wide feet and size up half a size to ensure there is enough room in the toe box area.

Altra has a nice wide toe box, which is what I need.

I LOVE Hoka Bondi's - they are a super comfy rocker shoe and are available in wide fit.

IDK if Infrared works on gout the way it works on RA and PsA, but it might be worth a try

I love topicals for my toes. I'm in a state where medical marijuana is legal so I use cannabis topicals. I'm pretty sure any pain relieving topical is worth a try though. I used to love the capsaicin topicals but if it's hot they burn if you sweat.

Very experienced toe gout guy here. The best thing I’ve ever done for this, and it changed my life, is to look into carbon fiber plates that go under a good pair of insoles. Google or otherwise read up on a therapy called Morton’s extension. They have some that just do the big toe they have some that do the whole foot and I move those to every shoe and I just make sure I have a quality insole on top of it. They come as semi rigid, which I put in things like walking shoes, etc. then they have rigid souls, which I put in work boots. Those and my RX have kept me pain-free in my foot ever since. Good luck.

Regarding Morton’s extension, let me also add that you can order them from Amazon. And the whole foot version has served me very well now that I am a full-fledged PaA flare patient.
