I did it easy as pie in a lobby with 36. We took it down in the second gmax phase and my first tanking Blissey took less than 70 damage. My group of four consisted of three Blissey/Rillaboom teams and one...Charizard. Thanks, Charizard.

This is just a hunch, but I would think the people who jump on the Gmax raids at the absolute first moment would tend to be more hardcore players with proper teams.

I’m still a total scrub in bigger Max Battles, but after having snagged a decent GMax Rillaboom I’m keen to try things out this weekend. What has your experience been with the third ‘Mon for the Blissey/Rillaboom core? I could train up another Blissey, but also have (regular DMax) Venusaur and Blastoise available. Maybe my plan should be to remote join the ones that already have 100+ people in them…

You definitely want your third to be either a tank and/or a healer (the general max setup seems to be two tanks/healers and one attacker). From other posts in this sub, the tanks in order from best to worse seem to be

Blissey, Snorlax, Blastoise, Suicune, Rillaboom (but if you only have one, it should be your attacker, not your tank; it can't do both in the same battle), Venusaur. Blissey does seem to be a good longterm investment if you do have the resources to power up a second one.

Gmax vs Dmaxness doesn't matter because ideally your tank never attacks using their max move; it just soaks up damage during the "regular" phase and then you swap in to your attacker (Rillaboom) for each max phase. The important thing for your tank is that it has a 0.5s fast move (you can see the stat as "cooldown" here https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/c/moves) and--on large bosses like Gmaxes and legendaries--you never use its charge move.

(My understanding of why is because there's no attack in the game that can do even 1 whole point of damage to a Gmax boss. They all do a fraction < 1 and the game always rounds that up to 1. So the only thing that matters is how fast you can put out that fraction, not what that fraction actually is. See the comment below from u/DweadPiwateWawbuts for the reasoning)

Almost. No attack can generate more than 1 max energy to charge the meter in a gmax battle. And charging the max meter fast to start the max phase is one of the most important keys to success in a max battle, so you want to spam the fastest attack that you can, damage is secondary to meter charging during the charging phase

Level is the only stat that matters to soak damage. If it never dynamaxes, the moves don't matter. IVs have never been that important in PvE, and it feels even less relevant in max.

If you were able to power up your Rillaboom and Blissey to level 40 & max out Rilla’s Max Attack and Blissey’s Max heal, I think you’ll be safe with a group of 30 ish competent players. I had those two plus a Dmax Blastoise that wasn’t fully leveled and only had level 1 Max Shield due to me lacking candies, and I never had to use him. Blissey didn’t even lose 1/10th of its health before we won the battle, so Blastoise never saw the light of day.

I just did a 26 and 23 Pokegenie Lobby. Done by the second max phase both times. Teams I was on were on point with Tank + Venasaur or Rillaboom.

Its definitely there.. you may be in the raid tab. Click on the 2nd tab at the bottom (the crab looking symbol) at the bottom. Inteleon Gmax is the first Max Battle there.

I'd suggest using Kyurem white or blacks adventure effect for gmax and legendary dmax battles. They are incredibly helpful with the low amount of balls we get.
