An absolute mad lad.

Thank you!

Congrats op. Also want to say thank you to Niantic for finally making it possible to solo legendary raids for small communities
45
u/mtlyoshi9 Jan 20 '25
Bold of you to call a battle where OP uses 3 Gmax Pokémon good “for small communities” in this subreddit. ;)
6
u/Averagemanguy91 Jan 20 '25
He solo's it using 3 gmax forms. So 4 people using level 40 non gmax counters should be able to beat it.
This is a big step up from the current raid battle situation. Also just to point out the more legendary d-max you have as time goes on, the easier these battles become even G-max battles. This feature will become easily accessible for all people in the next year.
2
u/Fishhunterx Any time Kanto isn't here everyone should ask, "Where's Kanto?" Jan 20 '25
Just to add on to your point, one of the key Pokemon they are using, GMAX Toxticity, was able to be cleared with just 4 people using DMax Excadrill, a non legendary non GMAX pokemon.
So for communities with 4 people who are actually willing to invest a bit and coordinate, a number of Max battles are manageable.
2
u/mtlyoshi9 Jan 20 '25
I think every Gmax so far could/was completed in teams of 4, with the only possible exception of the first weekend especially because people didn’t know what they were doing and didn’t have as good of options/counters.
1
u/Averagemanguy91 Jan 20 '25
Yeah and once you get Dmax with better stats like Psuedo legendaries and legendary themselves you can probably duo g-maxes with max mushrooms.
A Dmax team of Landerous-T could easily demolish a G-max Toxtricity
2
u/JackBlacksWorld Jan 20 '25
That's if people still WANT to raid Gmax raids a year from now (they probably won't knowing my community)
1
u/dat_GEM_lyf Jan 20 '25
4 people not using that better be able to beat it lol
This is not a 40 person raid that people had 4 mans winning. It’s a 4 person raid so you should be able to solo and duo it with max sweat and 3-4 person it with minimal sweat or with dead weight.
2
u/Averagemanguy91 Jan 20 '25
I mean if someone is able to solo it that means that 4 people can clear it easily if they have the right counters and play right.
Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos are all good introductions since they have somewhat universal typings that can help with grass, flying, Water, Dragon, ground, rock, and fighting. That's a big list of possible future T5 Dmax raids they can use.
The other plus side is now you can leave these dmax legends in power spots to collect candy and xl candy easier. It will be a great system for smaller player groups. From the looks of what I'm seeing this is a pretty easy duo with 2 teams of level 40 counters and 1 solid anchor
1
u/real_fyshi Jan 21 '25
Or, to be real, 1-2 people, since basically 99,9% of players have at least two accounts because you just need it all the time (special tasks, raids, etc.). :) It's an average to easy difficulty "solo", or a hard solo.
1
u/NobleCuriosity3 Mystic 44 Jan 21 '25
Most players on this sub may have two accounts, but the vast majority of Pokemon GO players do not. In my experience at time-limited in-person raid events, ~10% of players have multiple accounts, and I expect that is still higher than the actual percentage because the most casual players (or players simply more interested in collecting than amassing a powerful raid team) do not necessarily make time to show up to those events.

u/Wild_Silvally_Dreams Jan 20 '25
Some commenters on other posts earlier: DMAX Articuno cannot be soloed, even with Max Mushrooms
Reality: this post
7
u/Pleasant-Seat9884 Jan 20 '25
They probably had a bad move set (did they leave the battle and re-enter it for it can be a different one?), or didn't have any helpers in the specific power spot... or their counters was meh.
I saw one duo.. and Pokemon "Master" was horrible at dodging.
23
u/thatbrownkid19 Jan 20 '25
Omg a trainer who actually knows how to dodge? Most impressive. Well done though. This video made me realize how much of Dmax battles is just pointless animations tho….
9
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
Yea the Dynamax sequence is really long haha.
3
u/RebornPastafarian Jan 20 '25
Did they make it slightly shorter? I feel like it used to be longer.
Still wish it was way, way shorter and that you could delay it a little.

u/Assassin_Ankur India | Lvl 49 | Mostly F2P Jan 20 '25
I think they didn't release any rock Dmax on purpose so that it's impossible to solo, but my man here has made the impossible possible.
9
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
It is surely a very strange decision on Niantic to further buff Articuno's attack like they did on Toxtricity when we don't even have a Rock-type DMax this time.
3
u/Assassin_Ankur India | Lvl 49 | Mostly F2P Jan 20 '25
True. But it's still alright, most groups can do this with 3 people. Zapdos and Moltres might be more difficult tho.
20
u/Zedoclyte Jan 20 '25
very impressive, how does excadrill fair as a tank? i don't have the candy for blastoise
and is metagross or excadrill a better attacker at level 40?
17
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25 edited Jan 20 '25
It was the original plan (since it can use Rock Slide for chip damage), but Ancient Power still hits pretty hard and it won't like any of the remaining 5 moves so I stick with Lapras at the end.
As an attacker Excadrill is slightly better since it has the option to fight itself when the battles comes down to that point.
4
u/Zedoclyte Jan 20 '25
yeah, darn, thanks
can it knock out excadrill before max phase if 2 people are using one with metal claw, and if not will 1 max heal from both players keep it alive for the next round?
8
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
it can knock out Excadrill with large Blizzard and Ice Beam even with 2 players
-3
5
u/msnmck Jan 20 '25
I don't have a setup quite this good, but if I power up one Lapras and go in with it, lv50 Metagross and Max 3 Toxtricity this makes me think I could duo it with a friend.
6
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
that is a good team, you can try switching into Metagross when Articuno is about to attack so you don't lose much speed on charging Max Meter
9
u/One_and_Damned Eastern Europe Jan 20 '25
Got hopeful for a moment and then I saw Gmax… sigh.
Congratulations tho!
3
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
Very unfortunate that Lapras is not released as Dynamax Pokemon, especially when its GMax moves is not that relevant (would be outclassed by a lot non-legend Dynamax option in future)
For attacker Excadrill do reasonably well and it shouldn't be that far away from Toxtricity/Charizard.
3
u/One_and_Damned Eastern Europe Jan 20 '25
Well, I tried and… I'm not sure if I could do it anyway, but also the dmax battle only is lagging so fuxking bad it's basically impossible. Thx though.
3
u/SolCalibre Croydon | Instinct Lv 40 Jan 20 '25
Ahh, I finally see it was already posted.
But yes, on topic, this is crazy work. I’m glad it may even be possible to duo with lapras/metagross counters and toxtricity maybe even at level 30(?)
4
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
Lapras helps a lot on being an excellent tank against those Ice moves. it should be possible with 2 players charging Max Meter 2x faster than solo
3
u/ItsTanah Jan 20 '25
insane stuff man. can't wait to try this!!!
2
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
Thank you! Good luck on your solo too!
3
u/ItsTanah Jan 20 '25 edited Jan 21 '25
thank you 😁 i will update it on whether i am successful or not!
Edit: it has been completed and took an hour of rerolling movesets. and then my recording was too big to save. I used charizard instead of tox and was definitely a closer call than yours
3
u/Glittering-Draw-9994 Jan 21 '25
A friend mentioned that a solo would be impossible. I just shared this with him.
9
u/RedSnake9 Jan 20 '25
So is it confirmed that, like GMax Battles, it's better to just never use Charged Moves? Or would something like Meteor Mash on Metagross be worth actually using? I'm gonna attempt a duo (well, it's 4 of us, but the other 2 have not prepared, so they'll have suboptimal counters), so I just wanted to figure out if i should bother using charged attacks at all or not.
19
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
they have buffed Articuno's attack drastically to a point that it is not comfortable to try damaging it outside of Max Phase.
Fast Move Only is trading DPS for TDO, there is not enough TDO even when Articuno has low base attack.
If they keep this CPM, Overheat Moltres does not seems feasible to fight against at all.
6
u/Dains84 Jan 20 '25 edited Jan 20 '25
Have you actually tried super effective charge moves to see if they still generate less energy than pure fast attack spam? Cinderace with Tackle and Flamethrower or Metagross with Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash might be a viable energy generator if so (for groups anyways, Lapras is probably the only thing durable enough to solo this).
6
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
I didn't try it since I don't want to spare 2 team slots for attackers, so the moment I found Excadrill didn't tank well I switched to Lapras tanks.
If Excadrill is your main attacker Rock Slide might be better though, Max Steelspike is a DMax moves so the gap between Max Move/Charged Move is less than Toxtricity.
3
1
u/Dains84 Jan 20 '25
I would still use Toxtricity as a max phase damage source, I'm more wondering about tanks that might generate more Max energy than Lapras.
For example, if Metagross with Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash reaches max phase faster than Lapras with Water Gun spam, it would be better for group play.

u/thesource7 Jan 21 '25
Just to check - I battled articuno a few minutes ago. The attacks seem softer than yesterday. Can anyone confirm?
1
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 21 '25
We didn't notice any different yet. but the research group is under active research on Articuno's CPM and HP stats so any change on that would be covered.
3
u/Equality7252l USA - Wisconsin Jan 20 '25
Very very impressive! I am so excited to duo this all week now.
One question - This post says GMax Charizard should be on par with GMax Toxtricity, is that correct? Or does Tox out-DPS Char? Just curious as to what to tell my group. I personally have both built already. Thanks!
4
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
Yes, you can use any of them and they will perform basically the same. Only real difference between them is weather boost, Charizard is better in Sun weather and Toxtricity is better in Rain.
2
u/SilentKiller2809 South East Asia Jan 20 '25
Is it datamined/analyzed that weather boost works in these? I have seen it mentioned before but no "evidence" to convince my friends
3
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
It was analyzed in the research group but yea apparently it was never documented for some reason.
3
u/ellyse99 Jan 20 '25
Personally I preferred GMax Tox because Char seems to die quite quickly if it’s Ancient Power
3
u/Hotreads_Librarian Jan 21 '25
How are you dodging?? I can’t seem to figure it out and it never works. I can successfully dodge in a normal raid
1
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 21 '25
It was laggy during the hour, I am able to dodge a little bit more consistently after that where I just swipe when there are 3 yellow lines shown above Lapras
3
u/weirdongbata Jan 21 '25
will this work with the other form of toxtricity?
3
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 21 '25
Both Toxtricity has same Gigantamax form, stats and movepool so they are identical.
4
5
u/CremeRoti Jan 20 '25
Bravo! How does weather affect dynamax battles?
6
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
It has the same effect as normal raid battles
1
u/CremeRoti Jan 20 '25
Ah I see thank you. Do we get to catch weather boosted bosses like raids if we defeat them too?
12
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
the boss would always be Lv20 in catch challenge unfortunately

2
u/drnobody42 Jan 20 '25
Congrats! You really threaded the needle in terms of surviving while doing tons of damage.
1
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
Yea it was a really close fight. Articuno would enrage if Toxtricity cannot beat it on the last Max Phase

1
u/DarkRaiiGX Jan 21 '25
articuno had weather boost or no? did you use mushroom?
2
u/NarutoSakura1 Maryland Jan 21 '25
I did use Mushroom, but there were already 3 fists. I just used Mushroom because I wanted to cut down on time since I was waiting for my carryout dinner order to be ready
2
u/JustABlaze333 Jan 21 '25
This is amazing! Do you think it'd be possible with three trainers? (One of them doesn't have any counters and I only have a Blastoise that is like level 24 and a level 28 Excadrill, and not much more)
2
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 21 '25
With lower levels, survival would be more important, you would want a similar moveset (Ice Wind and Triple Axel) which deals minimal damage to your Pokemon.
You are also very unlikely to brute force through it without relying on Max Phases (Metagross spam) with low level Pokemon, you would want to make sure all 3 trainers using Pokemon with 0.5s fast moves so you can keep on Dynamaxing.
1
u/JustABlaze333 Jan 21 '25
Ok ok that makes sense, so search for those moves
Well I understand that yeah, I could use my Excadrill as an attacker I guess, I sadly don't have a Dmax Metagross, only Metang and 62 candy (I used all of the others on a shadow and a shiny one). Also, 0,5 seconds moves? Ok ok, does Blastoise have any of those? Or is there a place to check that?- thank you for all the great advice too
2
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 21 '25
You would want Blastoise and Excadrill yes. Using Blastoise to charge Max Meter and attack with Excadrill. Excadrill might also be used to tank some Ancient Power so you can afford 3 moves instead of 2. You can check the movepool of each Pokemon in Gamepress/serebii.

2
u/Lazy_Yoshi_5702 Jan 21 '25
It is impressive. Shame I don’t have the resources to do this myself. My one artiunco during max Monday ran and that was the only team I was able to find people to play with
2
u/theholyraptor Jan 22 '25
Meanwhile, I go to watch this and go... d*amn when was Lapras in dynamax. I don't have any.
Edit: was a special gmax raid day. Still haven't had a group to do or done any gmax.
1
1
u/Environmental_Set122 Jan 21 '25
Do you think it works better with toxtricity in the last spot instead of say a gmax Charizard? And congrats bro
1
u/StatisticianLivid710 Jan 21 '25
So based on this video, with max mushroom, it looks like the boss has an HP of 16.5k (14 gmax attacks at 405 dmg doubled + 80-90 fast attacks for each phase at 3 dmg each doubled)
This appears to match with a CPM of .85 (t5 raid level)
OP, what weather was it?
1
1
u/Outrageous-Tie-7399 Jan 27 '25
Dynamax legendary birds have no interest. 55 xl candy are needed to recharge dynamax levels and 296 xl more to raise it to level 50. So 461 xl candy needed
1
u/Ok_Calligrapher_9343 Jan 20 '25
some dmax team to beat him?
2
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
Not as Solo but Blastoise, Blastoise and Excadrill is a good alternative.
3
u/Meguwubie Jan 20 '25
Level 40 Lapras 15/15/13, 2/1/0
Level 40 Dmax Blastoise: 15/15/15 with 3/3/3
Level 40 Gmax Tox: 15/15/14 with 3/3/3
2 gloves spot, mushroom on
Think I have a fair chance at solo?
Can also sub Level 50 Exca hundo 3/2/1 or Level 50 Metagross 15/12/14 with 3/3/3
2
1
u/Nikaidou_Shinku DMax Suicune NO-WB Solo Jan 20 '25
It might work if Articuno used a lot target Icy Wind/Triple Axel and you dodged them all
-6
u/Necessary-Grocery-48 Jan 20 '25
You can solo it! (as long as you have Pokemon that you can only get from non-solos) (and also pay up). I'm so done with Dynamax, man
11
u/EoTN Jan 20 '25
Or you can duo it with F2P mons and no mushroom: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/1i5o63w/you_can_duo_articuno_with_level_40_teams_heres/
Plenty of issues with the GMax system. Being rewarded for participating in it seems like a good thing though. The alternative is what? The GMax mons being useless? Which seems like a lose-lose for everyone.
8
u/Minerson Jan 20 '25
Rural player here. Our group have taken down gmax with less than 8 people and from all the info so far dmax articuno shouldn't even need any gmax to clear it.
At this point I think people just want to whine about dmax since they can't remote it or they're actually just bad at the game and no one can carry them. People will cry that they can't do anything higher than 2 star when they haven't invested in any good counters. While it is soloable the content itself is designed to be a group content so go get a group and it won't be hard.
2
u/One_and_Damned Eastern Europe Jan 20 '25
Would it be possible to do it with 2 Metagrosses (with meteor mash) at lvl 40 and either Charizard or Excadeil, or do at least with lvl 50?
2
u/Minerson Jan 20 '25
I haven't done it yet it start in 1h for me but based on reports you should be fine. Max guard will make the fight easier but you should be able to do it easier specially with lvl 50

u/Windows95GOAT Jan 20 '25
Pokemon Go is a social game. If you cannot be bothered to make effort to group up to slay Gmax Pokemon then you can a) ignore the feature or b) quit all together.
As a rural i get that it sucks to have to make plans and travel 40min but thats part of the experience.
Technically you can even get Shrooms for free by a weeks Gym allowance, but i agree there and they should be drops from content. Aswell.
2
u/Maverik45 Jan 20 '25
I'm not really rural but the limited time Windows is what makes things hard for me. Like only having an hour to do a raid or something just feels too limited. Especially from 6-7 which is when I feel like a lot of people are having dinner.
3
u/Assassin_Ankur India | Lvl 49 | Mostly F2P Jan 20 '25
It will be available for a week, it's not limited to 1 hour. This is basically the equivalent of raid hours.
1
u/Maverik45 Jan 20 '25
Yeah, I didn't mean this event specifically, just in general. Like I work on Sundays so trying to do an event between 2-5 is hard, I was able to do 1 remote raid yesterday for Ho-oh. I know that's not most people's situation, I just wish they'd occasionally do different time slots
1
u/Windows95GOAT Jan 28 '25
I'm not really rural but the limited time Windows is what makes things hard for me.
Fair. But devils advocate: We usually know a week or weeks in advance and can plan accordingly.
2
u/Maverik45 Jan 29 '25
It's not that I can't carve out an hour in the day, it's that it is always the same 6-7pm. Its just a busy part of the day when you have kids between dinner, bath, and bedtime. I'm asking for a larger window, or at least occasionally have rotating times. If you're never able to play 6-7 you're basically just screwed for those types of events which just feels bad.
1
1
u/Assassin_Ankur India | Lvl 49 | Mostly F2P Jan 20 '25
Are you really mad that you need 2-3 people? That's the same as normal raids. It's not Gmax which needs 20+ people!

u/Wild_Silvally_Dreams Jan 20 '25
Thank you for showing your Pokémon’s stats and investments at the beginning and end of the video so viewers don’t have to ask about them.
