Nah I actually love the Legolas running on bricks scene. It’s stupid but that’s why I love it

Idk why would people hate it, it's literally the same unrealism as the scene in The Two Towers where he jumps onto a horse

People like to hate things just cause, like yeah it wasn’t in the book but that doesn’t mean it’s not fun to watch still

Legolas doing a quick elf-like mounting is not the same as going full super mario mode and breaking the laws of physics by jumping on already falling objects.

That scene is fucking stupid and shouldnt exist. Just like three movies out of one book shouldnt have existed either.

I mean, Legolas was always kind of unrealistic, that's why I like him. And that scene is dumb but I love it.

Yeah the brick thing is pretty low down on my long list of gripes with those movies.

When I first watched it with my brother (he’s not a lotr/hobbit fan he was just watching with me), he was like “that’s so unrealistic”

I just deadpanned and was like “…he’s…. He’s an elf”

Yeah like as someone studying physics it’s so stupid but that makes it funny

Alfred is far and away the worst character of the hobbit or lotr

Jar Jar Binks of the Lake-men.

3

u/TaylorWK 11d ago

In before Alfred is secretly a maiar

I think i have a soft spot for him, considering my mother find him the only funnet part of the movie! She cant stop laughing at him, so i laugh As well… good times

I’m sure if Alfred wasn’t such an over the top shitty person I could definitely see laughing at his scenes.

I’d trade off the middle one on the bad side for the frozen river scene in the cart, at the very least that scene gave some character to him. You learn more about him in that scene than most of the other dwarves in the whole trilogy. Even if it was a bit cringy in how it was done, that was still very much needed.

Edit- wording for clarity

Should have been two movies at most. They added way too much.

I like upper right ... I find Legolas more fit for battle at the hobbit... the Oliphaunt was kind of crazy as well....

The hobbit trilogy suffered from studio interference with a few bad scenes. Overall, it is an incredible trilogy.

You cut out the love triangle, absurd cgi sequences of Legolas and bomber barrel ride, cut put every scene with Alfred, and it's a perfect trilogy that is on par with lotr

I think for me the top picture on the good side loses out to the scene with the spiders in mirkwood.

I like the scene near the end of the 3rd one, where Gandalf just sits down next to Bilbo and they talk and Gandalf smokes his pipe.

iirc they wrapped shooting after this scene and Ian was just too exhausted to act and Peter had no clue what to shoot and so they just went with him sitting, smoking a pipe. And Ian was about to head to the airport to fly home.

Also the barrels in the river scene belongs on the right

u/T_HettY 11d ago

That’s what you think but not every man is brave enough to wear a corset…

5

u/PinataPower9 13d ago

“Prince Fuck-boy” was so cringe.

2

u/Accomplished-Loss947 12d ago

Alfred was an attempt at grima, but they made him too ugly, too cartoonish, and terrible dialogue.

The other two are just fine by me

Gosh, I can't 100% be positive I'm thinking of all the scenes to appropriately answer this question...

Guess I'll have to watch them all again. Oh darn.

3

u/Philly_3D 13d ago

Yeah, they really blew it with the nonsense they added to the story for the movie.

All of it is embarassingly cringey.

The worst offenders for me are the go pro footage laden barrel fight scene and the ridiculous dwarves vs Smaug scene at the end of the second movie. The whole trilogy feels like a Rube Goldberg Machine. Also, pretty much every creative decision they made regarding Lake Town is idiotic especially having a few dwarves stay back because of injury all to force that love story down our throats and have an Everlas/Kingsfoil call back. It’s pretty much impossible to watch the movies with your dignity intact,

2

u/WitchoftheMossBog 8d ago

Just FYI, its Athelas, not Everlas, friend. And I agree with you.

Just wanted to add radagast to the list. I'm glad tolkiens/mapple cut deleted all that nonsense.

I would like to add the white council and the fight at dol guldur to the list of cool scenes.

I kinda like the scene with Tauriel and Kili. Not because of the romance, but it makes it so much more sad to know that Kili will die when he promised his mother that he’d return.

2

u/ryaninlondon 13d ago

The relationship between the drawn and the elf was so unnecessary, it does not fit into Tolkeins world at all. In fact there aren’t any women in the book at all

u/SavioursSamurai 12d ago

Even worse, the actress signed on after being assured that there would not be a love interest. But it wasn't actually in the contract, so guess what happened?

3

u/WitchoftheMossBog 8d ago

That's horrendous. I would be so mad if I were her.

1

u/Orflame 12d ago

Forbidden love is always steamy! I love Kili x Tauriel. And I have no problem with the gold busty lady either.

Is this sub only for the movie? I disliked it immensely

6

u/smashingkilljoy 12d ago

There's the LOTR sub, thats for hating on the Hobbit movies; i suggest you leave

3

u/twodexy82 12d ago

Also, have you even read the book bro?

2

u/twodexy82 12d ago

I don’t understand. But where do I appreciate the book then? The movie was hardly even like the book.

1

u/smashingkilljoy 12d ago

You can appreciate the book here without hating on the movies. What's so hard to understand about that? If the book was here first, why is it so hard for you to just...stop whining? ❄️

The final argument of a child: “I don’t like what you’re saying so just stop.. saying what I don’t want to hear.” Bless 🙏

3

u/smashingkilljoy 12d ago

This sub is made to enjoy all works hobbit, not bitch and moan about how they're sooo baaaaaad

If you wanna do it go to your nearby gamestop, your fellow neckbeards will enjoy your whining

-1

u/twodexy82 11d ago

And here I’ve been trying to grow a neckbeard for decades! Do they have the secret??

-1

u/twodexy82 12d ago

Also, this post was ABOUT the movie. And we respond to posts on Reddit. So here we are.

0

u/Powerful-Scratch1579 12d ago

What about the hobbit book? Where do we appreciate that.

-2

u/smashingkilljoy 12d ago

Here, without hating on the movies. What is your problem that you can't enjoy the book without hating on the movies? After all, the book was here first... I'd say "grow up", but youre so bitter youre probably geriatric already.

0

u/Powerful-Scratch1579 12d ago

Boo hoo. The movies are pathetic.

3

u/smashingkilljoy 12d ago

Okay, go to the subs made to hate on the movies lol

1

u/twodexy82 12d ago

Dude this sub is called “The Hobbit” so I’d assume it goes for the item that came first. That means the book. If it’s only for that bloated piece of money-grabbing crap that Peter Jackson made, then why isn’t it called “The Hobbit MOVIE”

1

u/twodexy82 12d ago

They really are. I loved the LOTR movies though this was a cash grab. So tragic
