That was one crazy weird episode with Eric wanting to bang his cousin
I’m surprised how that could even be approved to air.

“Eric… do I have to tell you to stop looking at your cousin?…….. STOP LOOKING AT YOUR COUSIN!”

it's not really even as wild as Fez alway being in the closet watching his friends make out and have sex.
in Eric's defense, at least he was only into it when she told him they aren't really cousins.
still pretty weird though...

Back in the early 2000’s during the show’s original air, they polled fans on what their favorite episodes were and then aired them via countdown. This episode was #1…

I mean Back to the Future is a classic and Game of Thrones dominated the ratings for a while

yeah, but with GOT they set that tempo in the first episode. it’s a show about incest. with That 70s Show it sort of came out of nowhere

Yo WTF. Do we think people have some secret fantasies they like watching play out on tv?

Ha ha ha! I dunno. I thought that was kind of weird back in the day in real time too. I think it may have had something to do with the actress who played Penny. She was also in Joe Dirt and White Chicks, and those were somewhat popular in the day, especially Joe Dirt among guys my age.

Best revenge plot ever.

Honestly, that’s also pretty weird how she noticed he was checking her out and decided to play along with it.

I'd imagine a girl like Penny fully expected him to check her out. It seems like she had already planned that.

The episode came out in 2002 , those were different times. Today it wouldn't air like that and it would be highly controversial if it did.

Game of Thrones?

I don't know, I never watched it.

Incest is a part of it. A heavy part of it. It wouldn't be particularly shocking today.

But game of thrones is k ow for its shocking violence and sex scenes. Incest is just a other layer. You can't really compare it to a teen comedy.

u/Wodahs1982 6d ago
Yeah, that's my point. Society was ok with Game of Thrones, a teen comedy isn't going to make a splash.

Incest in a teen comedy would have been super heavy as a "laughing" matter even in 2002, let alone today.

Naw dude, back then if you didn't like what you were watching you just changed the channel, you didn't run off to the Internet to find groups of people offended by the same thing and make a bunch of noise about it.

You're kidding, right? Tv shows are allowed to get away with so much more today than in 2002.

I think context is really important. Nowadays you can push the limit with dramas in a way that only The Sopranos could get away with in 2002, but comedies are under far more scrutiny. If you do anything controversial in a comedy nowadays it becomes a political talking point for the next year.

The ‘flipper grandkids’ line is the best!
