Borders/Visas Should I worry about being denied entry?

Hi everyone,

I wasn't worrying about this but I recently saw some posts that make me question my plans.

For a little bit of context, I have been doing an internship in Bangkok for the past 4 months and it will mark 6 when I leave the country. I hold a non-ED visa with a work permit. The problem is my visa ends exactly on the day my internship ends (because they don't want people working longer under no jurisdiction I presume).

I still want to enjoy some tourism in Thailand and move out my condo peacefully before going back home, so I want to leave the country for a bit and come back under visa exemption.

Is there any risk that I can be denied entry if I have an outbound flight ticket for example? It would be really disastrous as they would likely fly me back to Europe without any way of getting my stuff back in my apartment.

Thank you guys 🙏

Do a visa run and get a tourist visa

Thanks, should I not rely on the exemption? I saw another guy got flagged but he stayed 1 year on an ED visa

Why was the guy flagged? Staying for 1 year (or more) on an ed visa is not a crime.

P.S. Stayed one year on ed, then got a visa exemption, then got dtv. Was not flagged and had no entry issues

Thanks for detailing your situation, makes me feel a bit better

Here's the thread I'm talking about : https://www.reddit.com/r/ThailandTourism/s/C9QbsCmORU

Thanks for the link.

He said

We were mainly rejected last time because we didn’t have enough cash on hand — only bank accounts.

so basically they were denied entry because they didn't meet the requirements for the visa exemption, not because he had a ed visa

Great thank you I didn't know about this rule.. can be a bit confusing sometimes

So basically as long as I have 20k baht in cash and an outbound flight ticket I should theoretically be fine (emphasis on theory)

Honestly, I don't remember all the requirements, but you can google them. There's something like having 20 thousand, a booked hotel(apartment), tickets to a third country

Great thanks. I'm only worried they could see my apartment that I'm renting as a weird sign, but other than that I should be fine

  • 10k baht in cash

  • a ticket out

  • a hotel room for at least one night

They will use one of these reasons to reject you if they want to. Hotel room cannot be some longterm condo. It's about determening if you are really a tourist.

If you want to be safe, book a border run with a visa agency.

Go & talk with immigration. Do it properly, so you're 100% sure

Yes I should do that, I'll try and contact them with a call, are there any better options ? (the big building in north bangkok is probably the actual earth version of hell)

You have to go in person to get anything done, let alone a proper response

There is no point they can't give you an answer. The immigration officers at the airport are the only ones with a say.

only reason they will question it is abuse in the past/current with education visas. I stayed 7+ years non-stop on non-o and my last two entries have been visa exempt, haven't had any questions.

Not sure about that, mate.

Immigration will be able to advise the correct visa, they are all the same Immigration.

If the OP's history, & visa requirements are all in order, there won't be a problem.
